Chapter 3

Melissa's Pov

I woke up the sound of a loud banging on my door. Before I could react, some guards barged into my room.

"What's going on?" I demanded, as I wrapped the duvet around my naked body. "Why did you guys just barge into a ladies room without knocking properly?"

"We've been ordered to search your room," one of the guards answered, and flipped my bed over not minding that I was on it.

"By whom?" I asked as I watched them turn my room upside down in confusion.

"I gave the orders," Luna Aziza's voice came from outside as she walked into my room.

"Good morning, Luna Aziza," I greeted with a bow.

"Search every nook and cranny of this room, I'm sure you'll find it in here?" She instructed the guards.

"Find what?" I mumbled to myself.

"This girl right here is a thief."

"W-what?" I stuttered, with my duvet still wrapped around my body as I stood there surprised by the Luna's words. "I didn't steal anything!"

"Luna Aziza, is this the ring?" A guard walked over to her, and showed her the ring Alfredo proposed to me with, two days back.

Luna Aziza squinted her brows. "This is it," she said, and turned to me. "Arrest her!"

"I didn't steal it!" I yelled, but the guards didn't pay attention to what I had to say and clamped silver chains on me.

"I've always known you were a thief," Luna Aziza said with so much venom in her voice.

"Luna Aziza, I didn't steal it," I told her, ignoring the pain of the silver chains, as they melted into my skin. "Alfredo gave it to me himself, we're–"

Smack! Luna Aziza slapped me hard across my face, shutting the words in my mouth, before I could even explain to her that Alfredo and I were mates.

"Liar! Instead of admitting you're wrong and begging for your life, you're sprouting lies!" She growled. "Alfredo is engaged to be married to Princess Sheila of Lockhart Pack."

"B-but I'm not lying," I defended myself in between tears. "Alfredo and I are ma–"

Smack! Luna Aziza slapped me again, but harder than the first, silencing me up immediately.

"You still dare to lie?!" She growled, her face etched with raw anger. "Lock her up in the dungeons," she instructed, and turned around to leave. "Maybe her time there would bring her back to her senses."

My eyes were wet with cold tears, as they raced down my cheeks faster than a heartbeat.

The guards let me put something on,  before carrying out the instructions given to them by the Luna.

As the guards took me away, the other omega's looked at me with pity, and shook their heads. They've never really been my friend though, I've never had any friends. It has always been me and Alfredo against the world, but now I'm not so sure anymore.

……………..

I have spent four good days and nights of endless nightmares in the dungeon, surviving on only meager rations of bread and water Alfredo hasn't come to see me. I overheard some of the guards at the dungeon talking, and they said he traveled on some official Alpha duties. Every single day since that day I've held onto the hope that once Alfredo was back all this misunderstandings would be cleared, this is just a sacrifice I have to make to be with him and I don't mind doing it over and over again.

As I laid in the dungeon desperately waiting for the day Alfredo would come back and make everything clear to his mother, I caught a whiff of his scent.

"He's here!" Lyra squealed, and I stood up from the bed abruptly with my eyes fixed on the dungeon entrance.

"Alfredo!" I called out excitedly, and relieved at the sight of him as he made his way towards my cell. "You need to talk to your–"

I paused mid sentence, as I stared into Alfredo's eyes which always looked at me with so much love, but now it was nothing short of hate and contempt.

"Alfredo what's going on?" I asked, in a trembling voice. "Is everything alright?"

"I'm going to make this easy for you, Melissa" Alfredo said coldly, ignoring my question.

"Make what easy, Alfredo?" I asked, as I stared into his eyes for clues on what he was talking about, but they were emotionless. "You're scaring me Alfredo."

Alfredo sighed, closed his eyes for a split second and ran his hand through his hair. "I, Alfredo Colbourne of Silver Rose Pack, reject Melissa Rockwell as my mate."

I felt like I was being hit by a bus continuously.

"Wh– No! Alfredo, no!" I screamed, and a solemn tear fell down my cheeks. My body looked calm outwardly compared to how tangled my mind was. "What are you saying Alfredo? What has come over you?" I demanded, as I could not accept the fact that the same Alfredo who proposed to me a few days ago after making love to me was the one standing right in front of me and saying those cruel words.

"Just accept it , Mellissa," Alfredo said, his voice colder than before. "Let's save ourselves all this trouble."

"Trouble? Never! Alfredo, Never!" I declared, and tears blurred my vision. "I'll never accept that!" I told him. "I'd rather die, than accept this rejection, you're mine Alfredo, mine! The moon goddess never makes a mistake."

"This isn't negotiable Melissa," Alfredo told me as he looked at me without an ounce of remorse or hurt.

"Never Alfredo!" I stood my ground. "I know you're just tired from your trip, so I'll just assume this conversation never happened," I told him, and went back to sit on my bed.

"Lyra," I called out to my wolf who has been whimpering ever since Alfredo said those formidable words. "Tell Dex to knock some sense into Alfredo, because we are not accepting the rejection."

"Mel," Lyra called out to me. "Why are they doing this to us?" She asked in a trembling voice.

"They're just exhausted from their trip, Lyra," I told her. "Everything would be fine," I assured her.

"Go to bed, Alfredo," I told him. "We will talk about this when you're in a better frame of mind."

"This decision is final, Melissa," Alfredo still kept on sprouting rubbish. "Just accept the rejection."

"I said I won't, didn't I?" I retorted.

"Have it in mind that whatever happens from now on is entirely your fault," Alfredo said, his voice void of any form of emotion. Then he walked away.

As soon as Alfredo was out of the dungeon and out of earshot , I slumped to the floor and broke down into uncontrollable tears. What could have happened suddenly? How could Alfredo do this to me, to us? What about his promise of eternal love, was that all a lie.

"It's all a lie, Mel," Lyra said. "The rejection is real, I can't seem to get to Dex, he has blocked all forms of communication with me."
