Chapter 4

Melissa's Pov

It's been over four days since Alfredo said those cruel words to me. Every time I hear footsteps in the dungeon I keep on hoping that it was Alfredo, maybe he has come back to his senses and was ready to apologize, but each time my hopes keep getting shattered. My tears had run dry and all I do all day since then is just lay on the cold harsh floor dejected and wallowing in self pity.

By this time tomorrow all my pains and sufferings would be over, as judgment would be passed upon me on the grounds of theft. It was obvious I'd be executed so I just closed my eyes and got consumed by my nightmares, at least it's better than the emotional nightmare I'm going through.

"Melissa!" I heard my name in a hushed whisper. "Melissa, you've got to wake up!"

Slowly opening my eyes, I saw Sarah, Alfredo's Beta.

"Here, there's no time," she threw a bunch of keys to me. "You need to leave immediately!"

"What's happening?" I stuttered, sitting up.

I couldn't understand what was going on. Sarah was Alfredo's Beta but we've only exchanged a few words with each other, so why was she suddenly helping me? I know she was close to Alfredo's parents most especially his mum. Could this be a plot with Alfredo's mom?

"Did you hear what I just said Melissa?!" She snapped. "I said you have to leave, follow the back gate, the keys are amongst those keys I threw at you."

"But Sarah, how–"

Sarah was gone before I could even complete my statement.

"This is our chance Mel," Lyra, who has been quiet and sulking for days, said.

"But where would we go?" I asked. "We've lived our whole life in Silver Rose Pack, we don't know anyone. Do you want us to live like rogue's?"

"I rather die as a rogue than die as a thief," Lyra said.

"But–"

"Enough with the buts, Mel!" Lyra snapped. "Pick yourself up and let's just go!" She said irritation evident in her tone. "We'll figure things out eventually."

"Okay, okay," I said, and stood up. The guards were nowhere around, for days now they hardly paid attention to me and just focused on gossiping about their tales with women.

Opening the cell gate, I made my way out. Being an omega was an added advantage because I knew every nook and cranny of the Pack house, so I knew where to go without losing my way.

"Oh my gosh, princess Sheila is so pretty," I heard one of the omega's gush. "I can't wait for them to get married after their engagement today, so they'll start having beautiful pups."

"I know right?" Another omega added. "I'm going to plead with Princess Sheila so that  I'll take care of their pups."

"Hell no, that's my job," another said, and they soon began arguing about who would look after the pups as they walked away.

Stray tears ran down my cheeks as reality hit me. Alfredo was really getting married to someone else, and throwing everything we had away. Is it because she's a princess and I'm just an omega?

"Don't worry Mel, once we are out of here it wouldn't hurt so much anymore," Lyra comforted me, even though I knew she was hurting more than me.

"I guess you're right, Lyra," I said out loud. "All this would be in the past once we leave."

"Leave to where?" Alfredo's cold voice came from behind, making me shudder.

"Al-"

"Where are you going, Melissa?" His eyes darkened, as he made his way towards me. He was putting on a blue tuxedo suit, it was obvious he just left his engagement party.

I sighed. "I'm leaving Alfredo," I told him boldly. "You're getting engaged, aren't you?"

"You can only leave when I give you permission to," he said and grabbed my arm.

"You're hurting me Alfredo," I told him, and tried removing his hands from my arms but his grip only tightened.

"You belong to me Melissa, you hear me?" He stated, and pulled me with him to goddess knows where.

"Let go of me Alfredo!" I yelled and pulled my arms forcefully from him. "You rejected me, remember?" I said, and couldn't stop the tears from pouring out of my eyes. "You chose to throw all we shared away, like it meant nothing."

"You didn't accept the rejection, remember?" He retorted. "Which means you still belong to me."

"I Melissa Thompson–"

"Don't you dare!" Alfredo growled, clenched his fist, and drove it through the wall behind me, making me flinch. "I will never let you go Mel!"

Tears streamed down my cheeks as I stared at Alfredo in disbelief. I can't believe that the same Alfredo I love with all of me was the same person staring at me right now. I couldn't recognize him.

"Listen here Mel, I'm not letting you go," he said with so much determination, and the next thing he did took me off guard, he brought out his fangs.

"W-what are you doing Alfredo?" I stuttered with my eyes wide open.

"Claiming you forever."

"Let go Alfredo!" I growled and kicked him in his groin making him groan in pain, and I ran away without looking back.

Tears streamed down my cheeks as I escaped through the nearest exit I could find.

"Melissa!!" I could hear Alfredo yelling my name at the top of his lungs.

"I'm sorry Mel," Lyra apologized.

"No need to be sorry Lyra," I told her. "I guess I was so blinded by love, I couldn't see Alfredo for who he really is."

"It's the bond," Lyra said sadly. "It makes us do stupid things."

I didn't say a word anymore and just ran  into the woods, and kept on running deeper and deeper into it as my tears flowed freely blurring my vision momentarily.

After running for about an hour, my lungs burned and my legs ache terribly. If they had a mind of their own they'll have deserted me.

I shifted into my wolf and let Lyra take over.

"Which way Mel?" Lyra asked, through our mindlink.

"Just keep going straight ahead," I told her. "I'll let you know when to stop."

"Okay," she answered and kept on running straight ahead like I had instructed.

Lyra kept on running farther and farther into the forest without taking a break.

"Who's there?!" A growl pierced the air, making Lyra stop abruptly. "How dare you trespass into Nightshades territory?!" The commanding voice echoed, it felt like the person was everywhere and nowhere in particular.

"I think this rogue has a death wish," Another voice echoed, still coming from all over .

"I'm not a rogue please," I said in a trembling voice, as I shifted back to my human form, and looked around trying to know where the voice was coming from.

"She doesn't smell like a rogue," a voice said from behind me and I felt a hand on my shoulders making me flinch.

I turned around sharply but it was as if the person disappeared into thin air.

I've heard rumors of Nightshades pack members moving like Ghost, most especially at night. Even with our night vision as wolves it would be extremely difficult to see them, that's how good they were.

"Little wolf, where are you from?" The voice came again.

"I'm from–"

"What's going on here?" The most melodious voice I've ever heard in my entire life spoke.

"Alpha Farell," the two voices from earlier spoke in unison.

"Lyra, can you sense anyone?" I asked, as I scanned the  area ,but saw no one. "Lyra," I called out to her again but got no response.

I felt a hand on my shoulder which sent chills down my spine.

I turned around sharply, and my eyes met with the deeped set of blue eyes I'd ever seen. The eyes bore into my very soul, making me gulp.

"Take her to the dungeon," he said coldly.
