Chapter Twenty-three

Nadia’s eyelids fluttered and her heart tightened. He was studying her guardedly now – the way he did that night in the woods, and she hated it. She lowered her gaze, and straightened her back, withdrawing from him. Angel hated that her body was not resting over his anymore even though he was angry with her all over again.

In a bid to make him understand her plight, and not treat her with disdain, she decided to explain herself.

"My dad told me I have this little cousin who is terminally ill and my uncle needs the blood of your kind to cure him somehow. That's all I know. I have never seen the boy. "

"Okay, let’s say that’s all there is to it. Are you telling me you are okay with it? With me being forced to give blood to your cousin?" He sounded chilly; almost as if he hated her. Nadia felt like crying.
