Chapter 5

ผู้เขียน: That’s All
“I was literally just putting a necktie on Luke. Is it honestly a big deal?”

I didn’t even look back.

Stepping around the corner, the pressing footsteps approached fast from behind.

Teagan caught up and grabbed my hand.

“Parker!”

She kept her temper in check, her voice strained.

“It’s our wedding. Our families are here. The guests are also waiting at the reception.

“If you march into the church alone, are you trying to turn us into a joke?”

I met her gaze, finding the whole thing ridiculous.

“Am I the one humiliating us today?”

Teagan choked on her words.

It was two minutes until the ceremony began.

Riley looked at me through her teary eyes.

Norman came up, his voice thick with emotion.

“Have you thought this through, Parker?”

I held his gaze. “I have.”

Leaning on her walking stick, Tessa nodded.

“I’ll be sitting in the front row.

“Whatever happens, we’re not going to be putting up with this.”

I could feel the sting in my eyes. “Okay.”

With that, I pressed forward.

I stood outside the church with a minute to spare.

The entrance was crowded with friends and family.

Aunts, uncles, cousins, and a few older family members who had driven in from out of town were all gathered outside, smiling and waiting for us.

Some carried wedding favors and gift envelopes. Others stood around chatting as they waited for the ceremony to begin.

Inside, a large floral arrangement stood beneath a welcome sign bearing my name and Teagan’s.

A white aisle runner had been laid out, leading straight toward the altar.

The photographer was on standby, camera in hand, while the wedding coordinator broke out in a cold sweat.

Everything was in place.

The bride and the groom were the only ones missing.

Teagan came rushing after me, her face scowling.

“Parker, how much longer are you going to keep up with this?”

I halted my footsteps.

The main doors were up ahead. Just one more step through the church doors, and everything would be set in motion.

I glanced down at the white carpet beneath my feet, then raised my eyes to look at her:

“Teagan, it’s 8:59 AM right now.

“The wedding’s starting in a minute. The doors are right ahead.

“This is my final question to you.

“Are you coming in with me?”

Everything went silent for a second as everyone kept their eyes on Teagan.

Teagan squeezed her hands tight, anxiety flickering in her eyes.

It didn’t take long for annoyance to squash her panic.

“Stop it, Parker. We’ll start once Luke gets his tie sorted.”

Fearing I wouldn’t get the point, Teagan stressed.

“Forget about the fact that the groom can’t have a wedding on his own. Luke is your best man.

“How can you stand at the altar without your best man next to you?”

I stared into her eyes silently as the last of my emotions went numb.

We had made it this far.

It was down to the last minute.

She caught up to me.

All our friends and family were here. Teagan had seen the venue, the white runner, and me.

Still, she insisted on waiting until Luke had his tie fixed.

I let out a chuckle.

“You never disappoint, do you, Teagan?”

Her face fell.

“What are you getting at, Parker?”

I didn’t answer.

The clock struck nine.

The Wedding March began to play.

A line of unfamiliar cars pulled up outside the church and came to a stop.

It was a real head-turner.

A woman in a white wedding dress stepped out of the first car, bouquet in hand. She walked straight toward me and held out her hand.

“Come on, Parker. It’s time to walk down the aisle.”

“You were the best man, not the groom.” Someone else chimed in. “You didn’t just forget your tie. “You forgot your place.” Luke went pale in rage. He said, “Parker acted on his emotions and got married to another woman. How is that my fault?” All the reason why no one was on Luke’s side. “The guy gave her every opportunity. “The video captured him asking Teagan whether she was going to walk down the aisle just a minute before the scheduled time.“She prioritized doing your tie anyway. “It’s hard to believe that nothing was going on between you two.” Luke later approached management, claiming that he had been singled out. The manager asked, “Was that you in the footage?” Luke had no words. Within a few days, he handed in his resignation. Apparently, Luke didn’t even pack his stuff. He simply slunk away on his last day. Life wasn’t easy for Teagan either. Her family had turned up for the big day, only to encounter the humiliating spectacle. Utterly disgra

Felicity would tell the whole world that it was her choice. She finally got her happy ending. While leaving the Dow residence, I spotted Teagan in the neighborhood. She stood by the curb, dressed in a pale trench coat. In just a few days, Teagan lost a lot of weight, and her eyes were bloodshot. Noticing me, she approached me right away. “Parker.” Felicity stopped walking. I squeezed her hand, reassuring her that she didn’t need to step aside. Teagan turned pale when her gaze fell on our intertwined fingers. “So you’re officially married now?” I replied, “Yeah.” Her eyes went red. “So soon?” I held her gaze calmly. “We already had the wedding. “Signing the papers was just completing the legal formalities.” Teagan bit her lip. “Parker, I’d like a word with you.” Not saying anything, Felicity simply kept her eyes on me. I responded, “I’ll pass. “There’s nothing left for us to discuss in private.” Teagan’s voice trembled. “I know I messed up.

Felicity mingled with the crowd, greeting and talking to every guest there. She even knew some of the older family members from my hometown by name. Riley pulled her aside and asked her, “How do you know?” Felicity replied with a smile, “Riley. “I used to come over all the time as a kid. Have you forgotten?” Riley’s eyes welled up. “I could never forget. “How could I?” She took Felicity’s hand and observed her face. “Who knew you were the one who married my son in the end?” Felicity murmured, “I never imagined it either. “But I couldn’t be happier.”Standing not too far away, I watched the interaction between Riley and Felicity with a sense of peace I hadn’t felt in a long time. It was as if I had taken the longest road imaginable, only to finally end up exactly where I was meant to be. That afternoon, the estate was bombarded with calls from the Rippleses. I ignored every single one of them. Eventually, Norman answered the call. Something was said on t

Standing at the door, I observed the changes in the suite. Everything felt surreal. Felicity placed the bouquet on the table and looked back at me. “What’s the matter? “Do you think I’ve been plotting all this while?” I asked, “Haven’t you?” Felicity chuckled and sat on the edge of the bed, her train spreading out across the floor. “Yes. “Guilty as charged. “It had been my plan all along.” She looked up at me, not shying away from my gaze. “I knew you were getting married the moment I returned. “I knew I should stay out of your life. “But I’ve seen Teagan with Luke. “I watched how you made excuses for her every time. “My heart ached for you, Parker.” I felt a lump in my throat. “Was that why you said yes?” Keeping her head down, Felicity smiled. “I meant what I said years ago—at least half of it.“I told you to drop me a text if she ever made a fool out of you. “I’ll show up in a wedding dress to marry you. “You called me crazy.” That memory c

“Parker. “You weren’t late this time.” I held Felicity’s hand tight. “Neither were you.” …After the ceremony, the arguing outside the church grew louder. Teagan finally pushed her way through to the church doors. Her wedding dress was a mess. Her veil had fallen crookedly over her shoulder, and her eyes were swollen from crying. Luke came after her, his dark blue tie perfectly straight over his collar. The whole thing was just ironic. Teagan stood at the doorway, her body going stiff when she saw Felicity and me standing side by side. She spotted the wedding ring on Felicity’s finger. The bouquet was still cradled in Felicity’s arms. The flowers were scattered across the altar, marking the end of a ceremony. Her voice turned hoarse. “You… got married?” No one answered her. The truth was plain as day. Feeling triggered, Teagan lunged forward. “Parker! “Did you honestly go through with marrying her? “You were supposed to marry me!” Standing by m

“Let us begin. “May we have the groom, Parker Day, at the altar, so our bride, Felicity Dow, can begin her walk down the aisle.“Please rise as we welcome the groom.”The church bell rang with the wedding music playing in the background. Applause and excited whispers erupted around us as the church suddenly came alive. The huge sign with my name and Teagan’s was taken down almost immediately. Felicity made sure her people replaced it with a new one. The frame carried gold lettering against a clean canvas. The bride’s name had been updated. I was stunned. Noticing my gaze, Felicity tilted her head and winked at me. “I told you. I came prepared. “You didn’t think I’d show up without having my ducks in a row, did you?” I stared into Felicity’s eyes, a catch in my throat. She hadn’t come here on a whim. It wasn’t some spur-of-the-moment decision. Felicity had thought of every likely scenario and made every possible plan. All she had been waiting for was for me
