Chapter 5

Adele’s Pov

What the hell! Why were they doing this to me? When Karen turned seventeen a couple of months ago we’d had a huge party. I had helped organize it and had been very happy for her, despite my efforts not being appreciated. So why couldn’t I have a party now I was twenty? Why had dad suddenly change his mind? I had a feeling Tina had something to do with it. She must have convinced him to change his mind after I had left for school.

I felt tears sting my eyes. Why couldn’t Tina treat me like her daughter too? Why the hate?

I sat down heavily on my bed. Tina hadn’t always been this way.

Dad had met and married her three months after we had lost my mom to a car accident. I had been three years old then. Looking back now I suspect he and Tina may have been having an affair, although I had no proof. But if my suspicions were correct, it would be very heatless of him. Sleeping with another woman while he was married to my mom.

At first Tina was an angel, or so I thought. She treated me like her own daughter, until they got married and Karen was born.

From then on everything had changed for the worse. I no longer mattered. Karen was her golden girl. Tina dotted on her and used every opportunity to let me know she was better than me. Dad was always busy with work and rarely at home. So I was left with my stepmom who hated me and did little to hide it. I had tried to be close to Karen. I had always wanted a sister, but as we grew older she began to hate me just like her mom. I was still Dad’s favorite daughter but our relationship wasn’t as strong as it has once been.

I sighed and began the embarrassing task of sending messages to my friends, telling them the party had been cancelled. My phone rang almost immediately.

“Adele, what do you mean party cancelled?” It was my best friend Lucy.

“I mean no party. It has being cancelled.” I said sadly.

“Why?”

“My parents said no to it.”

“Your parents? Or your stepmom?” She asked sympathetically. I had often told her how Tina treated me.

“Yeah. The woman really has it in for me.”

“So what are you going to do?”

“Go shopping maybe, then stay home all evening.”

“N.O. No way! Not while I am around. Let’s have fun together. One of the guys on campus is throwing a party this evening, come along.”

“I don’t know-“

“Yes you do know. The party is at 6pm. I will pick you up at 5:30pm”

“Don’t worry I will come over to your place instead.” I didn’t want Tina to know I was going to a party.

“See you then.”

My boyfriend Harry hadn’t called me, had he forgotten today was my birthday? I decided to call him.

“Hey beautiful.” He said.

“Hey handsome, I have been expecting you to call. You do remember what day it is today right?”

“Mmmm… what?”

I facepalmed. “My birthday.”

“Yeah sure I remembered. Happy birthday.”

I rolled my eyes. “Thanks.”

“How are you planning to celebrate it? Are you throwing a party?”

“No. I will just hang out later with Lucy and some friends.”

“Not bad. Sorry I can’t be there.”

“It’s okay. I understand. But I still miss you.”

“I know. I will be back on holiday next week. I will bring you a present.”

“ The only gift I want is your dick with a bow around it.” I purred.

He laughed. “You have a dirty mind.”

“I am missing you seriously. You are the only gift I need.”

“Then your wish is my command baby.”

I began getting wet thinking about the last time we’d had sex. It had been nearly six months, just before he went off to college. The sex had been hot, and I was looking forward to another hot fuck very soon.

“Got to go. How about some phone sex later?” He said huskily.

I eagerly agreed.

“Talk to you later baby. Bye.”

“Bye.” I hung up.

I was horny just listening to his voice, and the promise of phone sex made me drip. I pictured his handsome face and fought the urge to touch myself.

I sighed and got up to go shopping.

Karen didn’t want to go shopping with me, which wasn’t surprising. She hardly went anywhere with me. So I went alone, cheered by the thought of Harry coming back soon.

“I am going to see Lucy.” I told Tina that evening, not mentioning the party.

She and Karen were watching a movie on TV. I saw them look at each other and smile mischievously.

What is that about? I thought uneasily.

“Go ahead.” She said.

“Have fun.” Karen said mockingly.

“Thanks.” I said, still feeling uneasy.

As I closed the living room door I heard them giggling and Karen say,

“I can’t wait till she is out of this house.”

I froze.

Meaning? I thought.

I listened, but they were talking in a whisper. The cold ball in my stomach became colder.

I was thinking of staying home when I received a text from Lucy.

Hey! Where are you!

I felt I shouldn’t disappoint my best friend who was doing everything to make my day merry.

So ignoring the feeling, I headed for Lucy’s house.
