Chapter 2

작가: Perfect Timing
The lawyer managed to get Benji bailed out quickly.

The moment he stepped out of the interrogation room, he charged straight at me, finger jabbing at my nose.

The lawyer hurriedly stepped in front of him. "Benji, calm down. This is a police station."

Benji shoved him aside. "Shut your mouth! You don't get to talk here!"

He fixed me with a murderous glare. "When we get home, I'm going to break your legs! I'll make sure you won't be able to crawl your way out of our home again!"

His voice echoed through the station hallway, raw and unrestrained with hatred.

I ignored his roaring and, right in front of the officers, pulled a notebook and pen from my bag.

"9:15 PM, police station," I read aloud as I wrote. "Suspect Benji has again issued a personal threat against me. He threatened to intentionally cause grievous bodily harm—specifically, breaking my legs—

and further showing intent of unlawful confinement."

Benji's expression froze. He clearly hadn't expected me to take this step.

My adoptive mother, trembling with rage, lunged at me, trying to snatch the notebook.

"How far do you intend to take this?! Look at what you've done to Carmen! If anything happens to her, I swear I'll kill you!"

She jabbed a finger at my face, voice sharp and crying.

"You will kneel and apologize to Carmen right now! Or get out of our family! I'll act as if I never had a daughter like you!"

Just then, Carmen, who had been hiding behind Benji, clutched her chest, went limp, and collapsed into Benji's arms.

Pale and weak, she gasped, "Benji… don't blame Arista. It's all my fault… I shouldn't be alive… I've dragged everyone down."

Benji's eyes reddened with anguish as he held her horizontally in his arms.

He turned toward me, and the murderous intent in his gaze almost seemed to seep out.

"Arista, if anything happens to Carmen, I'll make you pay with one of your hands!"

Cradling Carmen, he hurried out.

I called after his retreating figure calmly, "Illegal organ trade and harvesting is a serious crime. Even one hand is enough for years in prison. I suggest you make a right turn out the door and get yourself a psychiatric evaluation first."

Benji's steps faltered for a moment, but he ultimately left without looking back.

The hallway fell silent, leaving only me and my adoptive father.

He glared at me like I was a stranger.

"From now on, all your cards are canceled. Hand over your car keys. Our family's reputation will not be ruined by someone like you. You won't be staying in the villa anymore—go to the servants' quarters at the back."

He tossed a bank card at my feet.

"When you've thought things through, I want you to repent and apologize properly. Until then, don't expect a single penny from us."

I looked down at the card and said nothing.

He thought I had yielded. Snorting, he turned and left.

But in that moment I looked down, the tiny camera hidden in my brooch had already captured everything clearly—threats, abuse, abandonment.

The chain of evidence was complete.

The day of the trial, the courthouse was swarmed with reporters.I walked to the witness stand in black formal attire, as both victim and key witness. On the defendant's bench sat Benji, Carmen, and my adoptive parents, lined up in a row. They wore prison uniforms and handcuffs, their faces etched with exhaustion and despair. The prosecution began presenting evidence.Recording after recording, video after video, diaries, medical reports, tax records—all of it projected onto the big screen. Each piece formed a perfect chain, cementing every one of their crimes. The defense attorney broke into a cold sweat, speechless. When Benji's criminal video played, he lost control."You! You ruined our family! You—bitch!" he roared, lunging toward me, only to be restrained by two bailiffs. The judge struck the gavel and rebuked him."The defendant's outburst in court constitutes contempt and will be considered an aggravating factor during sentencing."When it was Carmen's turn to speak,

Carmen couldn't endure a life of poverty, nor could she swallow her resentment. She contacted her delinquent boyfriend from the streets and planned one last act of revenge. They intended to kidnap me, extort a large sum of money, and then disappear far away. She sent me a text message.[Arista, I was wrong. Can we meet? I want to apologize to you in person. Please, let our family go.]A classic lure.Based on data I had previously recovered, I had already analyzed her behavioral patterns and social circle."Fine. You choose the time and place," I replied. After ending the call, I immediately contacted the undercover officers handling my case and informed them of my plan.On the day of the meeting, I put on a specially made stab‑resistant vest.In my pocket was a micro tracker and recording device, both connected directly to the police backend system. The location was an abandoned factory. The moment I stepped inside, the heavy door behind me slammed shut with a loud clang an

My adoptive father lost his job. The Collins family's financial chain collapsed completely. Not only did they have to cover Benji's exorbitant legal fees, they could no longer afford the extravagant lifestyle they once took for granted.Arguments erupted at home. "This is all your fault! We never should've brought that jinx into this house!" my adoptive mother screamed at my adoptive father in the living room. "Now look at us—the company is gone, and our son is nearly gone too! How did I ever marry such a useless man!"My adoptive father's face was dark. He said nothing.Seeing the family's downfall was inevitable, Carmen began to scheme. Late at night, she tried to run away with the last of the cash and jewelry in the house. She was caught on the spot by my adoptive mother, who had gotten up in the middle of the night."You ungrateful bitch! I raised you for nothing!" my adoptive mother shrieked. "The moment something goes wrong, you try to run?!"She lunged at Carmen like a

My adoptive parents and Carmen uploaded a video online. It was meticulously edited to paint me as a cruel, malicious adopted daughter. The title read: "Raised Through Hardship for Twenty Years, Adopted Daughter Jealous of Biological Daughter, Sends Adoptive Brother to Prison."The video lingered on a close-up of my adoptive mother kneeling on the ground, paired with mournful music.Carmen cried on camera, her face streaked with tears, claiming her illness and implying that I had provoked her brother. The video went viral. My phone blew up. Unknown numbers called and texted relentlessly, filling my inbox.[Die, bitch!][Wicked witch! I hope your whole family dies.][We've found your address. I pointed to the brooch on my chest. "All conversations and footage were recorded by the micro-camera here," I said calmly. "They've already been backed up to the cloud in real time."Two special police officers immediately stepped forward, slammed the still-stunned Benji to the ground, and snapped cold handcuffs onto his wrists. Outside the door, my adoptive parents—identified as accomplices—were taken into custody as well. My adoptive father tried to shout, "This is a misunderstanding," but was instantly pinned against the wall by two officers.Carmen attempted to play dumb, collapsing onto the floor and wailing hysterically. A female officer showed no mercy, cuffed her, and dragged her away. The crying stopped abruptly. As for the fake doctor in the white coat, he was so terrified that he collapsed to the ground, his pants visibly soaked. I watched as the entire family was escorted en masse into police vehicles. The lead officer walked over and glanced at the red marks ar

I looked at the agreement and laughed. I picked it up and, right in front of them, tore it cleanly in half. Shreds of paper drifted down from my fingers."I'm not signing."I turned to the man standing off to the side, dressed in a white coat, a mask covering his face, his eyes darting away. "You—do you even have a valid medical license?"His body stiffened. He instinctively took a step back."Or are you planning to kill me here, harvest my kidney, and then disguise it as a medical accident?"Benji's patience finally snapped. His face darkened. He waved at the two black-clad bodyguards by the door."I don't know why I even bothered wasting words on her. Hold her down. Give her the anesthetic—now!" He barked viciously, "If anything goes wrong, I'll take responsibility!"The two bodyguards rushed at me.The instant their hands reached for my arms, I pulled out the stun gun I had prepared in advance. Blue arcs of electricity crackled through the air. The bodyguard in front convuls
