Chapter 2

Diablo:

I walked past Sienna, heading toward the dressing room where I needed to be alone. Thankfully, she didn’t even bother stopping me as her best friend, Lexi, approached her.

“What are you doing, brother?” Maria asked, following me. Her eyes met mine as she walked in before me, her eyes holding a mischievous glare as I knew that she was sent by my parents.

“Coming to smoke a pot. I doubt that it should consider, sister. You have guests waiting outside, I would recommend that you go out to them.” I said, not bothering to look up at her from the cigarette that I was lighting up. “You know, it is you and my parents who invited them over.”

“They are here for your wedding. You have a wife who you just married, you cannot just smoke a cigarette when you just…”

“You should be thankful that I chose to wait until we were done with the ceremony before leaving her with her friend. Plus, all I am doing is smoking a cigarette, and I am being respectful enough to do it in private. Had it been up to me, I would have lit it up on that altar. I doubt that you think that I care.” I said, stopping her. “Now, if you have nothing important to tell me, and by important, little sister, I mean if no one is dying, leave.”

“You don’t have to be a jerk.” She said, and I raised an eyebrow.

“You are not the one marrying a woman that you don’t want to be with. She is an enemy, and rather than keeping her as so, you all saw it fit to wed the two of us.” I said, glaring at her. “But I will be curious to see what happens when you are sent as a bride to a man that you don’t want to be with. Only then, I wouldn’t expect you to come crying to me to stop the wedding.”

“What was I to do, Diablo? Dad already made up his mind, and you knew, since day one, that he never accepted HER. You were the one who insisted, and don’t think that I don’t know that she is here. If I am hiding that from mom and dad, it is only not to ruin the night. But things are going to be screwed if they find out.” She said, and I scoffed as I took another whiff of the cigarette.

“She is here because she was invited, and not by me. She was invited by the bride who is her best friend. You should have done your research well.” I said, putting the cigarette off on the ashtray. “If you will excuse me, I have my wedding to attend.”

Maria didn’t say another word as I walked out toward Sienna who was standing with non-other than Lexi. My woman, my beauty, and my forbidden desire. The one person who I knew they didn’t want me to be with, but the one person who I was willing to destroy the world for.

Her eyes met mine but she was quick to look down at her feet as she took a step back, giving me my moment with the woman that I would be calling a ‘wife’.

I extended my hand to her, and she raised an eyebrow before taking it. I guided her toward the dance floor, and when our eyes met, she frowned.

“You smell of cigarettes.” She said, and I smirked. I knew that it annoyed her, it was something that I figured out on the night of our engagement.

“Does it bother you?” I asked sarcastically. She didn’t respond, and I looked away from her. “Just because you and I said our vows, does not give you any right to be questioning what I do.”

I twirled her around, pulling her to my chest. She looked to her side, our eyes meeting as I twirled her around before pulling her back to me. “And I doubt that you expect anything more of me after this wedding.”

“I didn’t ask for this dance. As far as I can see, it is you who initiated it.” She said, looking at the other guests who started joining the dance floor. She stepped on my foot, and I wasn’t dumb to think that it was an accident. She was a good dancer. She wouldn’t have done so if she didn’t want to.

“I think that you and I are asked to be a husband and wife. And one of our customary traditions is the husband and wife’s first dance.” I said, and she smiled as she put her hand on my shoulder.

“Another is the father and daughter’s. And I think that I am overdue with dancing with you, wouldn’t you agree, ‘dearest husband’?” She turned to her father as the song ended. He wrapped his hand around her waist, pulling her to him. His eyes were as cold as ice, but he smiled, sending her a silent message with his eyes. She smiled back at him, but paid no mind as the two of them danced, at least, I was going to choose to believe that she paid him no attention.

Mom walked toward me, her eyes meeting mine as she smiled. She looked back at Sienna as she danced with her father before she extended a hand to me.

“Do I not get a dance with my son?” She asked, raising an amused eyebrow. “Or have you gotten too old for that now?”
