Sienna:
I read the note three times before throwing it in the bin as I fought the pain that I felt in my chest. A pain that was turning into anger. One that I knew that I had to control.
“I am a damn bride! I a fucking bride who was sent to this family. I am not what you want me to be!” I muttered, looking away from the bin, scoffing as I wiped the tears that threatened to fall from my face. I couldn’t weaken, I wasn’t going to allow them to weaken me.
“You will be nothing but a spy in his home. You are going to speak to him, understand him, lay with him if you have to. For the sake of your family, you are going to do this, Sienna.” Mother’s words played in my head and I couldn’t help but shake my leg as I grew anxious with each passing moment.
I ran my fingers through my hair before getting up from the chair just as the door opened, revealing Diablo whose eyes met mine.
“Don’t you knock?” I asked, snapping at the man. He studied my expression for a moment, noticing my anger, and I looked away from him as I turned to the mirror. I wanted him to leave. The idea of him being in front of me was not one that I wanted.
“I doubt that I needed to,” he said, looking at me, fully dressed in the same flower dress, one of my funeral dresses if anyone asks me at this point. His eyes studied my expression, and I raised an eyebrow. The last thing that I needed right now was to be dealing with his bullshit right now.
“Can I help you?” I asked, looking at him through the mirror as I tried to calm myself down. The ‘present’ that my parents sent to me was left untouched. I didn’t have it in me to think of opening it. It didn’t even matter at this point, I didn’t need to fake it to anyone at this point.
They wouldn’t even care if I did.
“We are getting ready to leave and it seems to me that you’re not ready.” He said, and I nodded. He looked down at the present that was in front of me, and I watched as the man walked toward the present for a moment, running his finger over the box.
“I am,” I said, wanting to walk past him. He wrapped his hand around my arm, stopping me, and I frowned. His grip was firm, but I could tell that he was making sure not to tighten it as not to hurt me.
“I am going to give you this message here and now, because it seems that you and your father have other plans.” He said, making me frown. He walked toward the trash bin and I frowned when he kneeled down to pick the note up. It was written in Russian, but the fact that he could easily read it made me frown.
“Sud'ba vashyey sem'i zavisit ot togo, chto vy delayete. Odna oshibka v etom brake, i vy budete ponosit' posledstviya. Ya skoro pozvonu vam za informatsiey, kotoruyu ya khochu, chtoby vy nashli, tak chto poka, naslazhdaytes' bytiem nevestoy...” The fate of your family depends on what you are doing. One mistake when it comes to this marriage, and you are going to be paying the consequences. I will be calling you for the information that I want you to find soon enough, for now, enjoy being a bride…
“How did you…?”
“Do you really think that I am foolish enough to trust you because the two of us said our ‘vows’?” He asked, stopping me. “You are going to have to try a lot better than that, neonata.”
“I didn’t choose to marry you, Diablo. I doubt that you expect me to be loyal to a man that I want nothing to do with.” I said, and he smirked despite the annoyance that I swore that I could read in his eyes.
“That makes the feeling mutual. However, one thing that I am not going to allow you to do is enter my house to be a spy for my enemy.” He said, wrapping his hand around my neck as he pushed me against the wall. “You are going to be loyal to me whether or not you like it. And if I find out that you are delivering messages behind my back, I am not going to be as lenient as I am being right now.”
“You and your leniency can…”
“Oh, trust me, I am only respecting the fact that you are a woman. Had it been a man, he would have known what it is to enter my house to cheat, lie, and spy.” He said, stopping me. “Get ready. We are leaving, and trust me when I tell you, Sienna Duraturo, you are not going to want to find yourself being against me. You know, those who get my last name are few, and there is a reason behind it too.”
“They don’t want it?” I asked, and he scoffed. The idea of him being as arrogant about his name was something that I couldn’t stand. It was an arrogance that my father had. It was one that I couldn’t help but find myself hating.
“It comes with a death penalty. And it is one that you signed when you said your ‘I do’. I figured that it would be fair to remind you of that small fact.” He said, leaning in. He pecked my cheek, and I looked away from him, watching as he smirked. “I believe that you are smart enough to understand my warning? Or do you want me to grow a lot more aggressive…?”
He didn’t wait for me to respond as he turned to the door. He looked at me over his shoulder, his eyes holding the hate of the world. And I had to admit, mine held the mutual feeling.
“I’ll be waiting for you in the car…”
Diablo:“You took long enough,” Arturo said, raising an eyebrow at me as the two of us walked toward the front door after getting ready to leave. His eyes met mine then he looked at Sienna who didn’t say a word as she looked down at her feet. I was yet to know what I was going to do with her, but I knew one thing, what happened was not something that I would be dropping.“Is everything alright?” He asked, frowning as he looked at the two of us, taking in the tension between us. It wasn’t as if we were the loving couple, but he knew when something was wrong.“Everything is fine.” I said, and I watched as Sienna walked toward the car. Her eyes were as cold as ice, and it was as if she was more furious than she was when we first spoke.“You didn’t take the present that your parents brought over.” Arturo said, said, making both Sienna and I stop our tracks. Truth be told, I didn’t know why she didn’t take it, but I knew no to ask. I doubted that she would be responding anyway.“Considerin
Sienna:I stared at the building for a moment, frowning when I saw that we could have been inside that building when the bomb exploded and the fire started. The fact that the fire was already eating the building told me that the bomb was inside, not planted outside. Meaning, whoever had planted this thing, was inside the building. My heart raced against my ribcage, and I looked at Diablo as he walked toward the building. The man was crazy if he thought that he was going to be walking toward that place by himself. And considering the fact that no one was around him, I knew that he was going to need backup.“Where the fuck do you think you’re going?” Diablo asked, frowning when he saw me following him. His eyes met mine for a moment, and I had to fight back the anger that I felt, knowing that he was putting his life in danger.“If you are a Capo, I am the daughter of a Pakhan, and I doubt that you would think that I would run away from a fight.” I said, and he frowned at me. His eyes met
Diablo:“Did anyone get hurt?” I asked, and Bartolomeo, one of the bodyguards, shook his head.“No, boss. We managed to get out of the building before it happened.” He said, and I nodded. I had to fight back the annoyance that I felt, and the fact that we were here earlier, that my parents were here, it was something that angered me.“Do you know the source of the fire? It couldn’t have just happened…”“It was a box that was inside your bride’s dressing room.” He said, making me frown as I looked at Sienna whose eyes were just as wide as mine were, clearly confused at what Bartolomeo was saying.“Are you sure?” I asked, and he nodded.“Positive, boss. The timer went off a few seconds after the building was cleared. I am not sure whether it was intended for you to have it in the car with you, but if it was…”“My parents wanted to get rid of the two of us.” She said, allowing herself to speak despite the shock that she was in.“Or me.” I said, and she frowned. “Leave us,”Bartolomeo wal
Sienna:His footsteps were ones that annoyed me today. I wanted anything but to be with him, but I knew that a man like him failed to take a hint.“Do you understand what it is to be asked to be left alone?” I asked, not bothering to turn to look at the man.“I don’t think that you expect me to keep you here after what happened.” He said, and I scoffed.“I expect you to go to hell, but I can’t have everything, can I?” I asked, and he took a deep breath.“I’m sorry,” he said, making me frown in confusion. “For what happened earlier, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”I turned to look at the man, and he took a step back. “Why did you come here, Diablo? Because I doubt that a man like yourself would apologize to the woman that he calls an enemy.”“I came to genuinely apologize. Because regardless of what you might think, I do apologize when I make mistakes.” He said, and I looked away from him. This was not a manner that my father had. In his world, men rarely ever apologized to thei
Diablo:I had to admit, I didn’t expect her to be willing to shake hands on a deal. But when she did, I smirked, respecting it.“Where are we going?” Sienna asked, looking at me from the corner of her eyes. “I thought you said we had some meeting to attend. This route is different from the one that we took earlier.”“I know,” I said, looking up from my phone. “We are going to the airport directly. While I did have a meeting, I chose to postpone until we got home. It’s already late as it is, and the less time I spend here, the better it is going to be.”She nodded, not saying another word. I looked down at the phone again, and I couldn’t help but frown when I saw a message from Lexi. The fact that she was sending one now was surprising to me, but I knew not to bother questioning her motives. The woman had her ways and her emotion breakdowns, it was the way that she was; I knew that for fact.“What are we going to do when we get to the Estate?” Sienna asked, breaking my train of thought
Sienna:I had to fight back the urge to want to call my family, wanting to ask them why they did what they have. But I knew to wait, I didn’t even know whether or not it was them to begin with.I wanted to find ONE lead that would prove me wrong, that the people that called me daughter did not betray me this way. They couldn’t be responsible for such an attack. At least, I hoped not.I shook Diablo’s hand, ignoring the clench that I felt in my chest. But I had no other option. It was the only way to keep myself safe.If my family wanted me dead, then I wasn’t going to lose the one person that was willing to help me out, even if he was only doing it for his own benefit. We got out of the car, and I looked up at the house, the estate that I was now to live in with my ‘husband’. Regardless of what the two of us might have said, I couldn’t help but find myself doubting that he was being true to me. The man could have only been doing that to make sure whether or not I was on his side.“The
Diablo:I looked at my wife whose eyes met mine, knowing that she was in pain. She sat on one in front of her dresser inside the bedroom, fixing a bunch of jewels inside boxes that would later be going to the dressing room. There was a safe there for her to keep them there.I didn’t know what she and mom spoke about, but I knew that it was often that a mother-in-law would be speaking to her son’s wife, especially as a new bride of a different family, to let her know of our ways. But knowing my mother, I knew that the last thing that she would do is force anything onto Sienna. She was herself, a rebellion once too.“Are you okay? You’ve been quiet for a while.” I asked, and she nodded as she raised the box, her jewelry box, that she was fixing. My eyes landed on a particular gem, an emerald, and I couldn’t help but find myself admiring it, being one of my one of favorite stones.“Your mom was kind enough to have the maids fix things for me, but the jewels, I would be fixing myself. It
Sienna:“What is this?” I asked, smiling at the sight of the white tables, the reception, and the guests who were arriving.Flowers were laid out almost everywhere and the number of people who turned to look at the two of us as we walked out to the garden took me by surprise. I had to admit, I didn’t expect many to be interested in seeing me as his bride. It seemed to me that I was wrong, very wrong too.“This, my beloved wife, is how we celebrate a Capo dei Capi’s wife. While our marriage is not the most ideal, we still have our ways before constituting the marriage.” Diablo said, making my eyes widen in surprise. He looked at me and smirked before looking at his parents from a distance. “At least, that is what they’re going to believe.”“For a man who said that he didn’t intend to touch me, I am surprised that you are bringing up the topic about constituting the marriage.” I said, looking up at the man with a smile on my face, making sure to keep a low voice as I knew not to allow a
