Accepting Engagement With The CEO

Chapter 5

Leigh’s Pov

His eyes. Had to be the most extraordinary thing I had ever seen. They made me lose my breath the instant they connected with mine. A deep shade of emerald green that appeared to almost glow underneath the afternoon sun.

His figure towered over my five foot three with a good several inches. His well defined but not overly large muscles, l could feel from underneath his tight grasp.

His hair was a deep shade of raven black rested on his head like a fluffy halo. You could tell by the way it was slightly ruffled, that he ren his hand through it often. He was in every sense of the word stunning, one could not deny.

He held me so close to his chest l could feel his heart pounding. I drew in my breath to speak. As his eyes bore deep into mine. “You saved me”, I breathed.

He didn’t answer. Instead he gave me a weird look l could not decipher. Shortly after he let got of me and another set of arms tugged at me.

“Leigh! Are you ok? Please say something”, my sister Harper cried.

“I’m okay”, I managed to whisper my voice brittle. Although my legs were still shaking.

“Leigh”, Quinn began apologetically.

I glanced down to follow the direction of her eyes. And my heart immediately sunk to the pit of my stomach acid.

Both my legs were covered in a clear liquid. I watched in silent horror as It slowly made its way from underneath the peach summer dress I’d been wearing. I had peed myself.

“Leigh I’m so sorry”, Harper said, as she began pulling me away from everyone and towards the house.

I almost cried from embarrassment. Looking up l locked eyes again with the strange man that had just saved me and he gave me an impassive look. I cringed. At that moment l desperately wished the earth would open up and swallow me whole.

I had a problem of peeing myself whenever l was extremely scared. It was one of the problems l inherited from witnessing my mother being sexually assaulted and stabbed to death when l was nine.

The night she died, I had hid in a corner, muffling my mouth as l cried whilst l watched her die. I was so afraid I peed myself . It was such a terrible experience, something l wished to forget.

After l took a shower, I changed clothes. Fortunately l found something in my old wadrope that l still fit. It was a gray oversized t-shirt and some black sweat pants. I went downstairs to find everyone sitting quietly in the living room.

They all carried solemn expressions on their faces. I stopped dead in my tracks the moment l saw a familiar set of green eyes.

“Leigh, how are you feeling now?”, Chris asked from across the room.

“I’m okay now thanks. But”, I turned towards the strange man that sat formally on my late mother’s couch. “Thank you for saving me, but I think you can go now”, I said.

“Leigh!”, both Harper and Qinn warned.

“That was very rude”, Harper exclaimed.

I was grateful that the man had saved me but I was also extremely embarrassed that he’d seen me pee myself. I didn’t know how l would be able to live past that.

However, l hadn’t mean’t to sound callous when I’d spoken. I just genuinely couldn’t see any reason for him to still hang around.

“I’m sorry”, I finally said. “I didn’t mean to sound rude or anything”, I explained meekly.

The strange man didn’t say anything, instead he turned to look at my father with an impatient look.

“Leigh please take a sit”, Chris said. I obliged, a little surprised at his sudden formality. “I would like you to meet Mr Felix Gray, the CEO of Gray Corps and your future fiancé.”

“What!”, I exclaimed in both shock and anger. Hearing Chris say that the man who sat before me was going to be my future fiancé, released a whole new fresh set of anger.

But what were the odds that the very same guy who’d saved my life would turn out be my arranged fiancé.

“Now l understand this is all a lot for you to take in right now, but it was proper for us to make the introductions today. As the two of you are supposed to get engaged this coming Friday”, Chris explained.

“This is fucking insane”, I exclaimed.

Just a few seconds ago, I had almost been hit by a car. Now here l was being told I was getting engaged in less than a week. At that very moment, being hit by a car didn’t seem like a terrible option.

Felix cleared his throat to speak. “Now please Miss?”,

“Ellis”, Harper offered helpfully. Her helpful attitude was beginning to peeve me.

“Yes thank you. Now Miss Ellis, I understand this is all coming as quite a shock to you. I’m an involuntary participant in all of this too. Now if you’d please be of assistance and handle this like an adult, that would be very helpful”, he said flatly.

I didn’t know what was more surprising. The fact that he spoke or the fact that he spoke garbage. What did he mean that l ought to handle things like an adult?. This was very upsetting news and l had every right to be upset.

However, no matter how much l was against this arrangement. There was nothing l could do about it.

Not to mention, the man had saved my life. I felt like I owed him in return. So if getting married to him was the only way to settle the debt, then so be it.

“Ok”, I replied casually. Everyone, but Felix turned to look at me like I’d said l eat dog shit for breakfast.

“Thank you”, Felix deadpanned.

And so we began to make the arrangements. I certainly didn’t want to get married to a man I’d just met. Especially if that man was Felix Gray, the ruthless CEO of Gray Corps.
