Chapter 4

Author: Against the Flow
Lezah smiled. As if afraid Jaroch might get angry, she kissed his cheek and said gently, "You still have me. I'll always be by your side. Besides, Bityah is probably just doing this to mess with you.

"And if she really is gone, that's a good thing.

"No one will ever know your true identity. You can remain Gamma forever, and we can be together forever."

She wrapped her arms around Jaroch. Her hands gently roamed his body. Her lips brushed softly against his face.

His gaze softened, and he let out a deep breath.

Her hand moved downward and grabbed something firmly.

He instantly tensed, and his breathing grew heavier.

As her hand slowly moved, the look in his eyes was quickly overtaken by desire. He pressed her down onto the bed without hesitation.

"You naughty girl."

He grabbed her by the waist with one hand and squeezed her chest with the other.

"I only want to make you feel good," she said with a sweet smile. Her voice was sensual and teasing. It sent chills down his spine.

She arched her body to match his movements, then stuck out her tongue to lick his chest.

He shuddered slightly. The temptation overwhelmed him. He tore off her clothes and sealed her cherry lips with a deep kiss.

Their kiss turned hot and messy.

Entwined together, their bodies rose and fell. They were completely consumed by passion.

It was all too much.

I turned away, unable to watch any longer, though tears still rolled down uncontrollably.

I was furious but helpless.

Just a few words from Lezah and a little seduction, and he completely forgot everything else.

I saw it clearly now. He was running away. He refused to admit I was dead.

He was lying to himself.

If he hadn't locked me in that room, I never would've died.

Just as things were getting heated between them, a knock came from the door outside. It was followed by Sylvia's anxious voice.

"Daddy, open the door!"

Upon hearing Sylvia's voice, I felt shaken up.

It had been days. I missed her so much, but I couldn't see her.

I'd wanted to protect Sylvia from afar, but my soul was trapped. I could only bear the pain of missing her.

"I can feel that Mommy's dead."

"Waaah! Mommy's dead! I want Mommy to come back!"

Sylvia's wails echoed through the house.

The pain hit me like a tidal wave. My tears fell uncontrollably.

Jaroch quickly pushed Lezah aside, got dressed, and opened the door.

"Don't say nonsense, sweetie. You're sensing it wrong. Mommy's not dead."

Jaroch placed his hands on Sylvia's shoulders and spoke sternly.

"But they said Mommy was burned to death and told me to claim her body for burial.

"Is she really dead?

"If not, why hasn't she come home?

"And I saw the body. She still had the ring I gave her. That was Mommy."

Sylvia cried harder and louder. Tears rolled down her flushed cheeks.

Seeing her like that tore me apart. I rushed toward her, desperate to hug her and offer comfort, but I passed right through her.

I wanted to speak, but no matter how hard I tried, no one could hear me.

"They're lying," Jaroch said, hugging Sylvia and gently wiping her tears. For once, he was surprisingly patient.

"Don't cry, sweetheart. Mommy's not dead, I promise."

At that moment, I wanted to believe it too, just so I could stay by Sylvia's side.

That was just wishful thinking.

"Then where is she?"

Sylvia was still crying. Jaroch was getting visibly impatient now. He didn't know how to answer her.

"She's on a trip, Sylvia. I'll get her to video call you soon.

"That body belonged to one of the servants' wives. Someone will claim it for burial soon."

Lezah jumped in to help Jaroch out of the bind.

My eyes widened in disbelief. She hadn't even verified anything and was already making things up? That was absurd.

"Really?"

Sylvia, being so young, was easy to fool. After hearing I wasn't dead, she stopped crying.

"Of course it's true."

Lezah knelt down and stroked Sylvia's head to comfort her.

Satisfied, Sylvia left with a servant.

Jaroch, on the other hand, was clearly irritated.

"Was that body really a servant's wife?"

Lezah's voice was like a siren's song.

"Of course. Bityah isn't dead. She faked it to make you feel guilty and regretful. Don't fall for it.

"Tomorrow, that woman's family will come to claim her body for burial."

Jaroch looked down. "I-"Before he could finish his sentence, Marabel snapped at him."Enough. I don't want to hear your excuses."Jaroch, you got everything you ever wanted. Bityah's death was the price of your success!"Don't you dare come here to visit her grave again."Because you're the one who killed her!"Her words stung. His entire body trembled, and the numbness that had dulled him all this time crumbled like a dam breaking. He tried to say something, but nothing came out. Stumbling forward, he made his way to my grave. With a thud, he dropped to his knees.A flash of lightning appeared in the sky, casting his pale face in a ghostly light.Rain poured down as he whispered over and over, "I was wrong. I was so wrong."I stood behind him and watched with a blank expression. To me, he was just playing the victim again and pretending to grieve. He had used the flimsiest excuses to steal his own brother's mate and status. He then tossed his own mate and daughter aside.

Jaroch's pupils contracted, and his expression changed instantly."You're the one who set the fire at my house?"The kidnapper admitted it without hesitation. "Of course. I hated your brother. He destroyed everything I had. Since you wanted to take his place, I figured I'd kill you and the people you love most!"As the tension rose, the kidnapper pressed a knife to Lezah's throat and sneered."It's either you die, or I kill your precious woman and that unborn pup of yours."Lezah broke down in terrified sobs."Please save me, Jaroch. I don't want to die."Jaroch furrowed his brows and spoke grimly, "You came for me. Let her go. I'll trade my life for hers."The kidnapper let out another laugh. "You're willing to die for her? Guess you really loved your brother and his family. I wonder if your brother can rest in peace now. What a story, something everyone's going to talk about for years.""Shut up!" Jaroch snapped. Then, without warning, he lunged forward and shoved the kidna

Marabel frowned. Suddenly, she burst into laughter."So that's what this is. A full-blown bait-and-switch!"I regret it so much now. I should've listened to the witch back then and stopped Bityah from marrying you. Maybe then she wouldn't have lost her life!"The witch Marabel spoke of had powerful abilities to foresee the future. She and Marabel were close, so she must have read my fate for her.Wiping away her tears, Marabel's voice turned stern."I don't care who you think you are now. Bityah is dead, and you will bury her in your official family tomb. If you refuse, I swear, I'll make sure you never know peace again."Watching Marabel stand up to such power for me made my heart ache with remorse.Back then, I'd even threatened to kill myself if she didn't let me marry Jaroch.Looking back, I realized I had ruined my life with my own hands.I regret meeting Jaroch, falling in love with him, and marrying him."She's not Bityah," Lezah cut in sharply. "She doesn't belong in

The moment I saw Marabel out in the courtyard, I began to feel gut-wrenching emotions.I suddenly remembered how she had tried to stop me from marrying Jaroch, warning me that he wasn't a good man, but I hadn't listened.I married him anyway, and because of that, my father died. Marabel never forgave me. Her anger and silence all these years was because I'd disobeyed her.Two werewolves followed behind her. They were carrying someone on a stretcher. As soon as she laid eyes on Jaroch, she stormed up and slapped him hard across the face.Jaroch looked at her with eyes wide open in shock.Marabel yanked off the white cloth covering the stretcher and pointed at the burned corpse beneath. Her voice, raw and trembling, carved through the air with every word."This is your wife! And you just let someone else take her body away to bury? Do you not have a heart? Even in death, doesn't she deserve a place in your family's tomb?"Jaroch's pupils dilated as he stared at the scorched body

Sylvia looked torn. She glanced at the body, then at Lezah, clearly unsure what to believe.Jaroch, on the other hand, casually shifted his gaze away from the body without a flicker of emotion. That was when the last bit of hope in me died.He really didn't remember that the bracelet was from him.I used to naively believe it was one of a kind and that it symbolized our love, but he'd given the same one to Lezah too.I had treasured it like it meant everything. It seemed I had over-estimated how much he loved me.He always looked like he loved deeply, but in truth, he was a complete jerk. I had been the fool who believed him.The scrawny man picked up the bracelet and started his performance again."Oh, this is the gold necklace I gave you!"I scoffed under my breath. One look at Lezah's satisfied smirk told me everything I needed to know. She had hired him.She really went all out to make sure I died without a name and without dignity.Sylvia, clearly upset and confused, s

Jaroch didn't seem to fully buy into it.Feeling unsettled, he exhaled deeply before making up his mind."No. I still need to see the body for myself."Lezah didn't want him to go. She stepped in front of him to block his path."Jaroch, she told me before that she wanted to leave you. She's always been good at playing games. She's hiding and trying to get you to panic."Jaroch furrowed his brows. He opened his mouth to speak but swallowed the words."Don't let her shake you," Lezah continued speaking. "Stay calm. Don't let her lead you by the nose."She did everything she could to stop him from going to see my corpse."Let me take care of this, okay?"She held his hand tightly and leaned against his chest, clearly trying to distract him."Just the other day, my father told me there's a pack of rogue wolves causing trouble in the southern region. He wants you to bring a team and wipe them out. If you succeed, you might even get promoted."Jaroch's interest was immediately piq

After they cleared the remains of the fire, they still hadn't found any trace of me.I hadn't intended to stay near Jaroch, but I quickly realized that no matter where he went, my soul would involuntarily follow him.Jaroch sat on the stone steps of the charred ruins, his expression unreadable as he ran a hand through his hair in frustration.Lezah walked up, took his hand, and gently leaned her head on his shoulder."Don't worry, Bityah has always been lucky. She won't die so easily," she said softly.Jaroch looked down. Feeling unconvinced, he asked in an unusually dull tone, "That room can only be accessed with my biometrics. What if that body really is her?"Lezah comforted him, "It's not. Bityah is clever. She must've found a way out. She's going to be fine."Jaroch's expression remained gloomy. He stood up and began walking toward the corpse. "Whether it is or isn't, I'll know once I check."Lezah tugged his arm, her voice rising a little. "It's not her! Don't look. It's

My soul drifted in the air, watching as the flames scorched my body beyond recognition. I couldn't even tell what I used to look like anymore. Some werewolves from the pack came and carried my charred body out of the room.I stayed by my own corpse. There was no sorrow, only a deep sense of relief.I didn't know how much time had passed before Jaroch arrived after hearing the news. When he saw his villa burned to the ground, and the brutally murdered servants, he staggered in shock."What happened here?" He roared in disbelief."Rogues broke in, looted the place, and killed everyone. We're tracking them down," one of the werewolves reported.Jaroch's expression turned gloomy. His gaze suddenly landed on my body. His brows furrowed as he examined me.My heart pounded a little. Could he recognize me? Would he feel remorseful after seeing my dead body?I kept my gaze locked on him, afraid to miss even the slightest flicker of emotion. However, he quickly looked away in a panic a
