Chapter 5

Back then, Sophia mocked and ridiculed Audrey relentlessly because of her huge family business. However, every dog had its day. Audrey did not want to let her go so easily.

She lifted her eyebrows and grabbed William’s arm. She smiled flirtatiously and coquettishly. “Will, no matter what, Sophia is still our old friend. We haven’t seen each other in so long. Shall we reminisce about our past together?”

William did not say anything. He just looked at her lifelessly.

Sophia knew that she was unable to escape today. This kind of thing would come sooner or later. Charles wanted this kind of effect to happen to her when he sent her here. The people she offended back then could form a line from the south of the city to the north of the city. Everyone wanted to watch her crash and burn. Even if Audrey did not appear today, there would still be people like her coming up to mock and humiliate Sophia.

She accepted her misfortunes as decreed by fate.

She licked the corners of her dried lips and looked at Megan who was standing on one side. She said slowly, “Please tell the manager that the guests are asking for me. Make sure she doesn’t think that I’m skipping work.”

Megan was not an idiot. She could tell Audrey had malicious intentions toward Sophia. However, she was mad that Sophia hid the fact that she had been incarcerated from her, so she turned her head and pretended that she did not see this.

Sophia did not care. She followed behind Audrey and William. She was as quiet as a wandering ghost.

After the got into the lift, they reached a VIP room. Audrey looked at Sophia who had her head lowered and smiled. She walked over to grab her arm and pushed open the door of the room.

The smell of alcohol wafted over to them immediately.

The room was dimly lit. Sophia could not tell who was who. She could only hear a drunken voice saying, “Mr. Jones, you’re finally here. We drank so much. You have to drink three glasses as punishment. Aud, don’t block…”

Audrey smirked and walked to where the switches were. She reached out and switched on the spotlight. Immediately, the room was as clear as day.

The men and women in the room were all complaining. Audrey did not pay attention to them. Instead, she pushed Sophia. “Look who this is!”

After she said that, everyone was looking over. Some were observing and forming a judgment while some looked over with amusement on their faces.

Sophia’s hands were sweating. However, her face was calm.

Then, someone screamed. “F*ck me! Isn’t that Sophia White of the Whites? Didn’t they say that she went to prison for attempted murder? Is it really her?”

After that, all hell broke loose. Audrey smiled in satisfaction. She nudged the hollow space between Sophia’s shoulders with her elbow. “Say hi to everyone. Why? Are you scared stupid?”

Sophia bit her lip while looking at those taunting eyes.

“I’m Sophia White.”

William looked at her with his head tilted. He knitted his eyebrows together.

At a distance, the neon lights were flickering. There was a slight lack of regard in the bustling city.

Mr. Lewis stood in the office. He looked at the desk carefully. “Marie asked if she should do something at the club.”

Charles sat on his leather chair. He was wearing a custom-made grey suit which made him look demonic. He was fiddling with a black lighter in his hand. The ring on his pointer finger was dazzling under the light. It was as flamboyant and dazzling as him.

His eyes were squinted. It looked like he was thinking about something. After a while, he opened his mouth. “Is William there as well?”

“Yes.”

Click. The lighter in his hand made a sound. He lit a cigarette and smiled. “Since Willliam is there, then just let them play. Tell Marie not to do anything.”

When he thought about that woman resigning herself to adversity, Charles closed his eyes. He did not believe that the woman could change completely in just two years.

The cigarette was slowly burning between his fingers. The night was still long.

Sophia did not remember how much she had drunk. Her stomach felt like it was burning. She felt like she was about to die if she took another sip.

However, she could not beg for mercy because no one here would let her go.
