Chapter six: A match made in heaven

Author’s POV

There’s a saying that sleep isn’t enjoyed in a new environment,

Arya thought as she sat up while stretching her limbs on the king-sized bed.

She let out a yawn in satisfaction while walking towards the floor-to-ceiling curtains and spread them apart with one swing giving way for the mild morning sunlight to envelop the room with some refreshing theme color to its interiors.

Taking in the nice fresh air in a deep breath she said out loud.

“Whoever made that saying hasn’t tried sleeping in a magnificent castle-like mansion”.

This place is beautiful and very soothing to the eyes she thought as she kept looking at the well gardened surroundings through the window in a daze and for a moment wished for such a peaceful life like the birds and butterflies flying around in harmony.

But that moment of peace was fleeting as she heard a loud thud on the door and without waiting for a response the door was immediately flung open followed by a tray of maids flocking in with all sorts of clothes and accessories in their possessions, It was almost as though someone was getting married, tsk.

To her sudden bewilderment realization hit her hard, oh my God! She exclaimed inwardly.

“I’m getting married today?” She asked to no one in particular. “I read something like that in the contract last night but I didn’t think they were serious about it”

She mumbled in a daze.

“Good morning miss Arya”.

the maids chorused snapping her out of her momentary lapse of puzzlement.

“We will now get you ready for your wedding madam”.

the head maid said and with a snap of her fingers ordered the maids to start the process.

Standing there not being able to utter a response, she knew it was useless to protest after signing the contract last night, but the sudden preparations left her totally flabbergasted.

It’s not everyday you get to marry a stranger you met just yesterday, so who could blame her brain for leaving her speechless?

She decides to stay calm as that’s the best course of action and let the maids have their way.

The bathing process was quite relaxing, having a complete manicure and pedicure session in the luxurious bathroom.

Although she did feel kinda shy having so many persons see her butt naked, but they all kept a straight face while working so she eventually got comfortable,

I guess...

Desolate silence overwhelmed the ink black may-beach parked in front of the civil affairs bureau as Nicklaus stretched out his hand to check his watch once again with a furrowed brow.

Klaus sensing the brewing storm attempts to ease the tensed ambiance, he knows how much Nicklaus hates waiting.

“Nick you probably have no idea since you’ve never dated but it’s totally normal for women to run a little late, in fact I think we’re the ones overly timely. I assure you with time you’ll get used to it”.

Klaus stated but the grimace expression on Nicklaus face made him wish he could take back those words.

he knew Nicklaus well enough to know not to provoke him when he was fuming angry as the consequences were dreadful, although he was one of the few that could slip away from Nicklaus wrath,

It’ll be wise if he came up with a plan to escape the pit he just dug for himself.

“Ah! yes, I found out something peculiar while digging into madam’s past”.

Nicklaus drew his gaze from his phone to Klaus, this time it was more of a curious gaze and he knew the worst was over so he went on,

“There seemed to have been some rumors surrounding her birth as Mr Andrew Walter claimed she wasn’t his child because of the unusual color of her hair but after a few years the rumors faded, so I wasn’t sure to report this earlier”.

Klaus said feeling proud of his findings but Nicklaus remark threw that pride out the window.

“How incompetent of you to bring rumors to my hearing. Carry out a thorough background check on her family. I want to know their situation” Nicklaus instructed returning his gaze to his phone.

“Yes, boss” Klaus Affirmed

and right that moment a black Rolls Royce pulled up front.

The interest of every passerby and onlooker was piqued when the appearance of a fair smooth slender long legs in a red stiletto touched the ground as a lady emerged out of the Rolls Royce in a drop-dead gorgeous wedding dress.

“Wow! Your bride looks so beautiful Nick, I’m so happy you’re finally getting married, with that stoic expression of yours I was afraid you’d actually die single. Hehehe”.

Klaus teased throwing caution to the wind as he was determined to tease Nicklaus even if it kills him.

Nicklaus getting married was a golden opportunity so of course he was going to make the most of it whilst avoiding eye contact for obvious reasons.

“That’s cheap coming from your single ass, it seems to me you’ve been free lately, you now have the luxury of time to swear at me”. Nicklaus responded casually but the hint of threat could not be hidden.

“Ah, free time?” Klaus scoffed. “As if working as the Vice President of Harrington group wasn’t enough you made me the acting CEO of Camo Constructions in your stead, I’m so busy that I no longer have time for parties, I can feel my Casanova days slipping away.

At this rate I’ll probably be the one to die single”. Klaus vented in frustration earning a glare from Nick.

“Are you sulking right now? Do you want to go on a trip then?”.

Nick asked with a raised brow and a coy smile that gave Klaus goosebumps all over knowing fully well the intentions behind that smile was devious.

There was no way he was falling for that, having been by Nicklaus side for a long time a proposed business trip was more of a trap than a trip.

“Such a heartless friend, tsk” Klaus mumbled earning a questioning look from Nicklaus.

Meanwhile Arya couldn’t help but commend the maids because they definitely outdid themselves as her looks got everyone staring in awe and as pleasant as this may sound she wasn’t in anyway pleased. It was in fact the opposite.

For starters they accidentally washed out the dye in her hair which wasn’t entirely the fault of the maids because she had gotten too comfortable and left out that crucial detail.

Her stomach was knots in anxiety as her mind went on pondering on how she was going to explain her looks to Mr unknown.

She became so accustomed to dying it black that she completely forgot her past situations,

bitting her trembling lips subconsciously and feeling nauseous as the memories of her childhood darts across her mind of how they made her ginger colored hair a thong in her flesh by giving all sorts of nicknames to her, best of which was the red headed demon.

she shakes her head vigorously to constrict the racing thoughts knowing it’d be a terrible idea to tear up in this situation,

not to mention how awkward it feels to stand in front of the civil affairs bureau in a wedding dress alone mindless of the fact that her beauty is attracting enough attention already.

And just as though the heavens heard her inner cry she noticed the whispers of some passerby and turned to see the new center of attraction.

It’s a sight to behold indeed, he effortlessly exudes a dignified aura that unquestionably makes people tremble at his feet not to mention the way he moved was suave and differential in his tailored-made tuxedo that complimented his charismatic haircut with an arrogant smile tugging the corners of his lips.

Nicklaus approached Arya with long strides while his guards actively cleared the area to avoid unforeseen circumstances like their pictures being taken as the onlookers couldn’t help but praise the sight before them saying they were a match made in Heaven, Arya cringed while she fought the urge to roll her eyes at this misconception.

“Oh for goodness sake if only they knew their Mr handsome had an attitude problem and a heart made of ice that not even the warmest of smiles could melt”. She murmured beneath her breath and soon felt an intimidating shadow hovering over her, despite her model-like height and her six inch stilettos she was only measurable to his shoulders.

Not long after she found herself staring into his mysterious yet dangerous eyes.

Just who on earth is this man I’m getting married to? She wondered.

“Shall we?” He asked in an ever so gentlemanly way that left Arya so dumbfounded she forgot to reply.

Not waiting for her response he took her hand in his and headed inside the civil affairs bureau leaving the crowd gasping in awe, while Arya didn’t miss the sly smirk lurking at the corners of his lips.

If looks could kill Arya could have sworn she’d be six foot under by the death glares shot by the attendant. On the other hand a sheepish grin from ear to ear would take form on her features immediately her gaze landed on Nicklaus, women were scary indeed.

The looks of distain could not be hidden as the attendant reluctantly passed on the marriage certificate from Nicklaus to Arya who couldn’t care less about the stares of daggers she was boring into her head.

Leisurely pulling the certificate over, Arya thought to get this over with as soon as possible but for some baffling reason her mind went completely blank as she was smitten to her core by the sight before her.
