Julian’s POV

I squared my shoulders, letting my gaze drift lazily from the tangled mess of Lurii’s rumpled clothing to the sudden, rigid posture Marcus was trying so hard to project. The sheer, unadulterated panic radiating off the two of them was practically palpable, thick enough to choke on.

“Hospitals really aren’t ideal for private conversations, you know?” The smirk on my face widened as I let the silence hang between us for a beat, letting the weight of my presence sink into their bones.

  • Awakened   Meeting Marcus After The Gala

Chapter 21Marcus’ POV I paced back and forth across the polished marble floor of the living room, the heels of my shoes striking the surface with sharp, furious clicks. The morning sun was rising high outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting long, stark shadows across the room, but the bright light did nothing to clear the toxic fog clouding my mind. My red tuxedo jacket lay crumpled on the arm of the leather sofa like a grotesque corpse. My head was pounding, a bitter mix of residual scotch and explosive rage burning a hole through my gut.Lurii sat near the glass bar, clutching a cold mug of coffee, her eyes nervously tracking my every relentless lap across the room."Marcus, please, you're going to wear a hole in the floor," she murmured softly, her voice strained and timid. "Pacing like a madman isn't going to fix what happened last night.""Fix what happened?" I spat, wheeling around to glare at her, my hands clenching into tight, trembling fists at my sides. "She vanished

  • Awakened   Waking Up In Julian’s Bed

Chapter 19Ashley’s POV The soft, filtered morning light pierced through the heavy velvet drapes, warming my face and forcing my eyelids open.My mind was a blank slate for a single, quiet second before my eyes adjusted to the room. I shifted slightly, feeling the cool silk of expensive sheets against my bare skin. I was entirely naked beneath the covers. Across the polished hardwood floor, a path of rumpled clothing lay scattered, a jacket thrown over a chair, a tie tossed on the rug, and my midnight-black gown discarded near the foot of the massive bed like a shed skin. Then, the memory slammed back into my chest with the violent force of a tidal wave.It started with the hallway. Lurii, her neon pink corporate dress wrinkled, her body entangled with Marcus on that mahogany desk. The sickening, casual weight of his betrayal echoing off the walls. The nausea. The frantic, blind steps backward. And then, the solid wall of Julian's chest.A sharp, electric heat flushed straight up my

  • Awakened   Night Twist

Chapter 18Julian’s POV "Look at me, Ashley," I repeated, my voice dropping into a thick, steady murmur that left no room for hesitation. "Only at me."I didn't need to glance past my shoulder to know what was happening behind that heavy mahogany door. The faint, hushed sounds of muffled laughter and shifting fabric were enough for me to piece together the pathetic display taking place inside. But my focus wasn't on Marcus, nor on the desperate girl he had dragged into his web.My entire universe had narrowed down to the trembling girl pressed against my chest.Ashley stood frozen, her small hand still hovering near her chest, her dark eyes wide and shimmering with a volatile mixture of grief, hatred, and absolute betrayal. Through the sheer, delicate lace of her masquerade mask, I watched the rise and fall of her chest, rapid and shallow against the plunging neckline of her gown.Without a word, I wrapped one hand securely around her waist, my fingers digging gently into the soft cu

  • Awakened   Betrayal

Chapter 17Ashley’s POV "I'm fine," I lied, my voice barely a whisper against the low, hum of the ballroom's strings.Julian’s thumb was still resting against the side of my jaw, his thumb softly tracing my skin, but the warmth of his touch couldn't reach the arctic chill expanding inside my chest. His dark eyes searched mine, heavy with an unsettling, protective intensity, but I couldn't stay in his gaze. I couldn't let him see the hairline fractures tearing through my mask."Excuse me for a moment," I murmured, gently slipping my hand from his grip.He didn't stop me, though his brow furrowed, his eyes tracking my every movement as I backed away into the shifting sea of formal gowns and dark tuxedos.I turned away, my heart hammering a violent, erratic rhythm against my ribs. I knew what time it was. I knew what was happening. In my last life, on this exact night, at this exact hour, I had aimlessly wandered away from the noise of a party, searching for the man who promised to love

  • Awakened   Little Details

Chapter 16Julian’s POV Marcus stood before us, practically trembling with rage, his hands clenching into useless fists at his sides. Up close, the sweat sheen on his forehead caught the sharp glare of the crystal chandeliers. He opened his mouth, trying to gather whatever pathetic shards of dignity he had left after my last remark."We’ll settle this on campus later," he spat, his voice strained as he tried to project an authority he clearly did not possess.I didn't even blink. "Scurry off, Marcus."He threw one last, venomous glare at Ashley, but the cold, impassive wall she put up rendered his anger completely useless. Turning on his heel, he stomped back into the crowd toward Lurii, looking like a man who had just realized he was entirely out of his depth.I took a slow, deep breath, letting the tension from that pathetic confrontation roll right off my shoulders. I turned my full attention back to the woman standing beside me.Ashley was holding herself perfectly straight, her

  • Awakened   Lurii Meets Genevieve

Chapter 15The heavy, suffocating silence following Marcus’s humiliation near the grand staircase was more than I could stomach. I watched from afar as Julian Syer practically loomed over Marcus, cutting him down to size with a single, lethal smirk. Marcus stood there looking pathetic, his red tuxedo clashing violently against my bright pink corporate dress, making us look like two lost fools who had stumbled into the wrong high-society nightmare. My heart was hammering against my ribs, hot panic and bitter rage knotting tightly in the pit of my stomach. Ashley was supposed to be broken. She was supposed to be hiding away in her bedroom, wallowing in the dark, crying over the ruins of her life. Instead, she was standing on the arm of the most powerful man in the city, draped in midnight-black silk, commanding every camera lens in the room.I turned away from Marcus, clutching my designer handbag so tightly my knuckles turned white, and began scanning the vast, glittering expanse of th
