Samuel POV

I know I sounded cocky, but in truth, I was desperate.

For weeks, Shan wouldn’t talk to me. She blocked me on her phone.

Pepper was helping her and banned me from the building.

When I tried to press Pepper to grant me access, she gave me the cold shoulder.

Pepper’s angry. I know that, but it was Shan’s anger that had me on my toes.

I don’t know what to do.

I was stalking Pepper’s house for the sight of Shan.

Earlier, I noticed Shan in the side yard, but later she returned to the house.

When Pepper and the triplets rode Victor’s car, I noticed Shan did not join them, which gave me the clue that she was still in the house.

I kept drawing breaths. Inhaling and exhaling while I try to compose the words that I wanted to tell her, but now that we are face to face, the words jumbled in my head, and my words came out wrong.

I did not intend to sound accusatory or mocking.

But the way Shan’s lips twitched in annoyance left me frustrated.

“Shan. Let me in.”

“No. This is Pepper’s hous

  • BEYOND GOODBYE: Take Me Back EX WIFE    Chapter 89. Cried for our Past

Pepper PovMy voice cracked at the end while my body began to tremble.Victor’s eyes became evasive. His face darted away from me.Then, as if by resignation, he sighed.“You already felt pressured by our inability to conceive. I saw you slowly drifting away from the vibrant, self-confident, and happy person you are. Every time our attempt fails, you die a little inside. And I can't stand seeing you like that.""When the board suggested you take a rest. I wanted you to do that. When I told you to postpone conceiving for the time being, it was because I can't bear seeing you hurting all the time." Victor's voice started breaking. And I realized that I had been holding my breath for a long while when my chest began to hurt.I slowly inhaled, but my eyes never veered away from Victor’s face.I needed to hear his words as much as he needed to say them.We had been tiptoeing around the issue for a long time now. It’s time we set things straight. It was long overdue. This talk, and we both

Pepper POVThere was a loud ringing in my head after Victor's revelation. It was all too much to take in, weighing heavily over me, and making my thoughts spiral out of control.I clutched at my chest as I struggled to contain the painful reminder of our past."Are you alright?" Victor's voice broke into my mental absorption when he asked.I noticed the worry not only in his voice but also in his facial expression.I swallowed and raised my palm up to assure him I was.I took deep breaths to calm down.My uncertainty wavered between confusion and disbelief as I struggled to process Victor's

Pepper POVI stood up, eyes wide in shock when I heard Victor’s question and saw his massive frame blocking the main door of the house.I did not hear him coming, nor did Shan.Maybe because we were so engrossed in our talk.Victor walked toward me. It took him three strides before I found him standing in front of me.He was so tall that I had to look up to see through his face.“I want you to know that I fired Maggie yesterday. She was no longer working for me.”I opened my mouth in an attempt to say something, but nothing came out. Then, I realized he had six years to do that, but he didn’t.“I know it was hard to believe, but it was the truth. After what happened yesterday at the office, I finally had enough and fired her. But I can’t say she wouldn’t be a threat. Maggie does not accept humiliation like that gracefully. She already filed a case against me at the Labor Relations Board. I am sorry.”Shan moved out when she realized that Victor and I had a tendency to engage in heate

Pepper POV"What do you want to eat?" I asked Shan after coming down from locking myself in my room.It was almost lunch, so I thought of whipping out something for us.“Oh, you want to cook again?” She wore a long-suffering look that made me laugh.“We still have leftover food from breakfast.” She told me.When I remembered how I almost ransacked our pantry, I blushed.I was nervous and mad, but I couldn’t lose my temper at Victor in front of the children. That would undermine him in the eyes of my children. While I wanted to lash out, that would not be in accordance with what Victor and I wanted to achieve for our children. My eyes began to wander, checking for the triplets and their father, finally noticing the silence.Weird.“Where are they?” I asked Shan."Victor and the children went out to buy some stuff for their night outing. The children wanted to see the eclipse that will be happening tonight." Shan reported.I vaguely remembered making a promise to Aaron that we would w

  • BEYOND GOODBYE: Take Me Back EX WIFE    Chapter 85. I am Finally Home

Pepper POVI heard the fading sounds of the children’s voices. Thea’s voice was the loudest. There was a hint of excitement and contentment in her voice that was not there before. It does not take a genius to figure out that it had something to do with the regular presence of their father.Yet, the echo it created around us, despite their absence, caused me to freeze. I can’t seem to move from leaning on the counter. My back to the kitchen entrance. The triplets’ quick appearance and disappearance at an inopportune time made me recoil in my standing position. What if they saw us hugging?Or they saw us hugging,

Victor POV"I am sorry." I snuck toward Pepper while she was busy scraping leftover food from the used plates and depositing them in the nearby trash. Her sharp movements spoke of anger. She was still furious. At the dining table, when the kids weren’t looking, she kept stabbing me with her annoyed glare.I wasn’t insensitive. I could feel her fury a mile back and resolved to endure it.
