Two years ago…

The café hummed with life—clinking cups, soft laughter, and the warm scent of freshly brewed coffee.

Sunlight streamed through the large windows, casting a golden glow over Sophia and Tina’s usual corner booth.

Tina was radiant today, her eyes sparkling as she stirred her cappuccino with an unnecessary flourish. “Okay, Sophia,” she said, barely containing her excitement, “I have to tell you. I met someone.”

Sophia’s lips curled into a grin. “Oh? Spill!”

Tina leaned in, her voice hushed but bubbling with joy. “His name is Alex. He’s… perfect. Tall, charming, and those dimples? Deadly.”

She placed a hand on her chest dramatically. “Honestly, I think I’ve already fallen for him, and we’ve only been on two dates.”

Sophia’s eyes softened. She loved seeing Tina like this—glowing, giddy, and hopelessly romantic. “T, you’re smitten!”

Tina sighed, her cheeks warming. “I am, but... I don’t want to mess this up. He’s different. I feel it.”

She paused, then, almost shyly, added, “He’s throwing a party this weekend. Come with me?”

Sophia blinked. “Wait—with you?”

Tina grinned. “Yes! You’re my best friend. You’re my comfort zone. Besides,” she teased, “I’ll probably be too busy swooning to function without you.”

Sophia laughed. “Alright, alright! I’ll come. But only if you promise not to ditch me the second he flashes those dimples.”

Tina grabbed her hand with a grin. “Deal.”

The party…

It was a cool Friday evening when Alex first entered Sophia’s life with an ease that caught her completely off guard.

The music at the party throbbed with energy, the laughter of friends mingling with the buzz of conversation.

She had barely noticed him at first—until Tina’s voice broke through the noise, full of excitement and admiration.

“There he is,” Tina had whispered, her eyes glued to a man at the far end of the room. “Alex. He’s the one.”

Sophia raised an eyebrow, glancing at Tina. The way her friend looked at him—eyes wide, lips parted in a soft sigh—told her everything. But as usual, Tina didn’t just observe, she dove in.

She was bold like that, and in that moment, it seemed like nothing in the world could get in the way of Tina’s pursuit of him.

But life, as it often does, has a way of throwing unexpected twists in the most familiar of places.

Later that evening, Sophia stood near the drinks table, chatting with a few friends when Alex came over.

His dark hair neatly styled and his eyes carrying an intensity that sent a strange shiver down her spine.

His smile was easy, a quiet confidence wrapped in charm, and for a moment, the whole room seemed to fall away as his gaze met hers.

“Hey, I’m Alex,” he said smoothly, extending a hand. “I don’t think we’ve met yet.”

Sophia blinked, taken aback by the directness of his approach.

But there was something disarming about him—an honesty, maybe, in the way he spoke that made her hesitate for just a moment before shaking his hand.

“I’m Sophia,” she replied, offering a smile.

He studied her face for a second, and just when she thought he might turn away, he leaned in slightly, as if making an effort to really look at her. “Tina’s told me a lot about you,” he said, his voice warm with a hint of admiration.

The name of her best friend hung in the air like an unspoken bridge between them, but Sophia couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to his words than casual politeness.

A part of her felt like he was trying to see her—not just as Tina’s friend, but as herself.

As the night wore on, the connection between her and Alex grew naturally. He’d joined their group, and the ease with which he spoke to her made the conversations flow effortlessly.

There was something in the way he listened, the way he seemed genuinely interested in her thoughts, that made her feel seen in a way she hadn’t felt in a long time.

It was as if they had slipped into a rhythm of their own, one conversation leading seamlessly into the next.

There was no awkwardness, no forced silences—just a quiet understanding that they were in sync.

And when he smiled at her, a smile that reached his eyes and softened the edges of his features, Sophia felt her heart flutter in a way she couldn’t quite explain.

Days turned into weeks, and before she realized it, they were texting each other daily.

Their conversations started light but gradually deepened, sharing small details about their lives, their hopes, and their quiet fears.

There was an undeniable chemistry between them, something neither could ignore.

Alex was always attentive, always present—whether it was a casual text to check on her day or a thoughtful gesture like showing up at her favorite café with a book she had casually mentioned wanting to read.

She had never expected to connect with him the way she did, and yet, here they were—two people from different worlds, colliding in a way that felt inevitable.

The inevitable moment came one late evening, when Alex looked at her, his gaze softer than usual. “Sophia,” he began, his voice a little shaky, as if he was unsure of his own words. “I can’t stop thinking about you.”

Her breath caught in her throat, and for a moment, the world seemed to be still around them.

She knew what he was saying before the words left his mouth, and in that instant, her heart raced. “Alex…” she started, unsure of how to respond, but his words cut through her hesitation.

“I know this might not be what you expected, but I don’t want to hide it anymore.

I want to see where this goes. I want to be with you, Sophia.” His voice was steady now, like he had finally found the courage to speak the truth.

Sophia’s heart pounded. There was a rush of emotions inside her—elation, confusion, fear. She had never imagined this, had never thought that she would fall for someone like Alex.

But now that she was here, standing at the crossroads of a choice she had to make, all she could think about was how much she wanted him.

And how much she knew she wanted to be wanted back.

“I don’t want to mess things up,” she whispered. “But I can’t stop thinking about you either.”

That night, everything changed. They kissed for the first time, and it was soft—tentative, as if they were both testing the waters of something so new, so raw.

But when their lips met, the world seemed to explode in color, and for the first time in a long while, Sophia felt like everything was exactly where it should be.

But what neither of them had expected was how quickly their secret would get out.

Tina noticed the shift first. At first, it was subtle—small glances exchanged, quiet smiles that were too frequent to ignore. But soon, the tension became too obvious.

The way Alex would linger near Sophia, or how they would share inside jokes that only they understood. Tina wasn’t blind. She saw it all.

One evening, after a dinner at her apartment, Tina confronted Sophia. She had a coldness to her tone that Sophia hadn’t heard in years.

“So, when were you going to tell me?” Tina asked, her eyes narrowing as she crossed her arms. “About you and Alex?”

Sophia’s heart dropped into her stomach. “Tina, I—”

“No,” Tina interrupted, her voice rising in a mix of hurt and disbelief. “Don’t try to justify it. You’ve been seeing him behind my back.

You knew how I felt about him, and yet you—” Her voice cracked, and for the first time, Sophia saw the raw, unfiltered pain in her best friend’s eyes.

Sophia tried to speak, but the words wouldn’t come. She had never meant for things to go this far. She had never meant to hurt Tina.

But in the end, the truth was that the connection she shared with Alex had grown stronger than anything she could have predicted. And now, it was tearing apart everything she had built with Tina.

“I never meant for it to happen like this,” Sophia whispered, her voice shaking with regret. “I never wanted to hurt you.”

Tina’s face twisted with anger. “Well, you did.” She turned on her heel, her words cutting through the silence that followed. “You hurt me.”

Sophia stood there, paralyzed, as Tina stood up to leave. The weight of her actions settled heavily on her chest, and for the first time in a long time, Sophia wondered if she had made the right choice.

As

Tina stepped out, she threw one final look over her shoulder, her voice cold and cutting, “This isn't over”...

Sophia had just settled into her room, sinking into the plush mattress, her mind still reeling from everything that had happened that day. A wedding—her wedding. Even if it wasn’t real, standing in front of those people, repeating vows, and slipping on a ring had felt unnervingly real. And Julian… the way he had smoothly announced that she was expecting his child, as if he had been preparing for that moment all his life. It was all so surreal. She ran a hand through her hair, exhaling deeply. She had been holding herself together all day, but now, alone in the quiet room, everything threatened to crash down on her.Just as she closed her eyes, a soft knock interrupted her thoughts."Sophia?" Emma’s voice followed the knock. "Mr. St. Clair asked me to tell you that dinner is ready. He wants you to join him at the dining table."Sophia opened her eyes and let out another sigh. She wasn’t really hungry, but she knew Julian wouldn’t take no for an answer.Emma stepped inside slightly, h

Sophia was still curled up in bed when she heard a knock on her door. She groaned softly, reluctant to get up, but the door creaked open, and Julian stepped inside. He was already dressed in a crisp suit, his presence commanding as always."You’re awake," Julian said, leaning against the doorframe."Not really," she muttered, rubbing her eyes. "What do you want?"Julian smirked, his hands tucked into his pockets as he walked further into the room. "We need to talk about the wedding."Sophia sat up straight, suddenly more awake. "Wedding?""Yes," he said, standing at the foot of her bed. "We need to have a small ceremony. Just something formal in front of my father’s lawyer and a few board members. That way, it’s legally binding."Sophia blinked, trying to process his words. "You mean... like, tomorrow?"Julian shook his head. "Today."Her jaw nearly dropped. "Today?""I already have everything arranged," Julian continued, unfazed by her reaction. "You don’t have to do anything. Just b

  • BEYOND THE CONTRACT    Chapter 24: Echoes Of That Night

Sophia stepped into the guest room, and for a moment, she just stood there, taking it all in. It was stunning—far beyond anything she had ever expected. The space was massive, larger than her entire apartment, and it was filled with elegance. The walls were painted a soft ivory, complementing the golden accents on the furniture.A chandelier hung from the ceiling, casting a warm, inviting glow. Her eyes traveled to the enormous bed at the center of the room. It was covered in crisp white sheets, with thick pillows stacked neatly against the tufted headboard. A soft beige rug spread across the marble floor, adding a cozy touch, and near the window, a plush armchair sat beside a bookshelf filled with hardcovers. Everything about the room spoke of wealth, comfort, and luxury.Sophia hesitated before stepping fully inside. She had spent her whole life in small, cramped spaces, barely affording the rent. And now, she was standing in a place that felt like something out of a dream—only it

  • BEYOND THE CONTRACT    Chapter 23: A New Reality

Sophia stepped into Julian’s house, her breath catching in her throat. Calling it a house felt like an understatement—it was more like a palace. The high ceilings stretched endlessly, adorned with intricate chandeliers that bathed the grand foyer in a soft golden glow. Marble floors gleamed under her feet, reflecting the elegance of the carefully curated interior. Every detail screamed wealth, power, and exclusivity. She shifted her gaze to Julian, who casually removed his jacket and handed it to a housekeeper. His expression remained unreadable, as if this level of luxury meant nothing to him.Sophia exhaled slowly, taking hesitant steps forward. "This place… it’s like heaven."Julian glanced at her, a faint smirk appearing at the corner of his lips. "It’s home."She turned to face him fully. "You live here alone?""Yes, with my staff," he said simply, as if it were the most normal thing in the world.Sophia's brows knitted together. A man with his wealth and power, living in a man

The hum of the engine filled the silence between them. Julian’s hands were firm on the steering wheel, his jaw set as he navigated through the early morning traffic. Sophia sat beside him, staring out the window, her fingers clasped tightly in her lap. After a while, Julian spoke. "You didn’t even hesitate this time."Sophia turned her head slightly, her expression unreadable. "Neither did you."Julian let out a quiet chuckle, though there was no humor in it. "I didn’t expect you to call me back last night.""Neither did I," she admitted. He glanced at her for a moment before returning his focus to the road. "So, what changed?"Sophia inhaled deeply. "I realized I can’t do this alone."Julian's grip on the wheel tightened slightly. "And what exactly is 'this'?"She hesitated, then looked at him. "Surviving."The word hung between them. For the first time since she got into the car, Julian turned his full attention to her. His gaze was sharp, searching. "And you think marrying me will

“I’ll go home,” Sophia said firmly, though exhaustion made her voice weaker than she intended.Julian sighed, crossing his arms. “You heard what the doctor said. You need someone with you.”“I can take care of myself.”He scoffed. “Yeah? Is that why you passed out in my office?”Sophia clenched her fists. She hated that he had a point.“I’m not going to your house,” she said.Julian exhaled, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Fine. If you don’t want to come with me, at least stay somewhere safe.”She shot him a wary look. “What do you mean?”“I have a friend who owns a hotel,” he said. “I’ll arrange for you to stay there for a while. You’ll have staff available if you need anything, and I’ll make sure someone checks on you.”Sophia hesitated. She didn’t want to be under his control, but the idea of going back to her empty apartment didn’t sit right with her either. After a long silence, she finally nodded.“Alright.”Julian wasted no time making the call, and within an hour, they arriv
