-CASSIAN HALE-

“I’m not going anywhere,” I repeated, softer this time, thumb brushing the back of her hand.

Not ever again.

Even as the words left my mouth, something inside me twisted — a tight, uncomfortable coil low in my chest that I couldn’t name and didn’t want to examine too closely.

Maybe it was fear.

Maybe relief.

Maybe something darker.

Doesn’t matter.

All that mattered was Scarlett, pale and trembling in that hospital bed, her eyes red-rimmed and terrified, and the knowledge that I had almost lost her. Almost lost them.

I swallowed hard, pushing back the shaking in my hands.

“I’m right here,” I murmured again.

She nodded weakly and squeezed my fingers as if she were afraid I’d disappear the moment she blinked.

A nurse entered quietly, checking Scarlett’s IV, her vitals, her monitors — professional, calm.

Too calm.

“Her levels are stabilizing,” she said. “We’ll need to keep her overnight for observation.”

Overnight.

Of course.

Scarlett exhaled shakily, her lower lip trembl

-LIANA-2:14 a.m.I was half-asleep on the couch, an unfinished cup of tea cooling on the table, when I heard it.A soft click.Metal shifting.Too careful to be an accident. The hairs on my arms rose as another sound followed — a faint scrape against the balcony door.Tristan emerged from the hallway instantly, as if he felt it too.His eyes met mine.Frozen.Alert.A silent get Elias passed between us.I moved without speaking, without breathing, without even thinking. But before I reached the bedroom—Glass cracked. Not shattered. Not loud.Just enough to let the cold night air slip in.Tristan placed an arm in front of me, stepping forward like a shadow turning solid.“Stay behind me,” he murmured.I swallowed hard, adrenaline pulsing hot in my veins. We waited.Listened.The silence was too heavy.Too intentional. Then—A faint rustle.Something dropped onto the floor near the balcony.A note.Folded.White.Clean.Tristan reached it first. He opened it.And his entire body went

-LIANA-Elias splashed water everywhere.Little fists. Little feet. Little waves that soaked the bathroom tiles and the hem of my jeans.“Mommy mommy, look!” he announced proudly, lifting a bubble-covered rubber duck like it was a trophy.I managed a smile. “Wow, That’s the cleanest duck I’ve ever seen.”He giggled — that soft, airy laugh that always loosened something tight in my chest — and dunked the toy again, sending another tidal wave over the tub’s edge. But even as I wrapped him in his towel and lifted him out, my muscles stayed tense…stiffMy mind stayed elsewhere. On Cassian. On the shouting. On Scarlett’s headline. On the way Tristan’s expression shifted into something dangerous the moment he saw the news.Elias didn’t understand any of it yet and that was the only thing that put me at ease..thank God.But I did.And now every bone in my body felt braced for the next attack….but deep down I hope there isn’t “Mommy?” Elias whispered as I dabbed his hair dry with a towel. “I

-LIANA-The moment Cassian’s car tore down the street, the house finally exhaled. It wasn’t quiet exactly — the house never really was — but the pressure eased, the air loosening around the walls like a rubber band snapping back to its original shape after being stretched too long.Elias already rushed upstairs to his room, humming to himself as he built something with plastic blocks. I could hear the soft clacks drifting down the staircase, innocent and oblivious to everything adults were setting on fire downstairs. The TV in the living room was still paused on the hospital report, the image frozen mid-frame: Scarlett leaning against Cassian’s chest, face pale and trembling, a smear of blood down her leg. It was enough to make a knot tighten in my stomach, even if I didn’t want it to.And Tristan…Tristan was pacing like a caged wolf.Forward, turn, backward, turn. His hair was a mess from running his hand through it, and the lines in his jaw looked like they’d been carved there with

-CASSIAN HALE-The doctor left. The door clicked shut. And then the silence hit—thick, heavy, suffocating. The kind that presses into your ears until every breath feels too loud, every thought too sharp. The sterile hospital room felt suddenly smaller, the shadows deeper, the air colder.Scarlett lay against the pillows, pale and trembling, her fingers still laced with mine like she was afraid I might dissolve into smoke if she loosened her grip even a fraction. She looked exhausted—drained in a way that made something inside me twist painfully. Her lashes were clumped from dried tears, her lips parted with uneven, shallow breaths, one hand still curled instinctively over her belly. And then it hit me.Not in a slow dawning way—but like an explosion.Late.Violent.Blinding.Fury.The kind that had a pulse. A heartbeat. A rapid, pounding rhythm that made my vision tighten at the edges.Tristan.Liana.Their little performance.I saw it again—Tristan’s cool, calculated stare. Liana’s

-SCARLETT REED-.Time was slipping.Bleeding through my fingers. If I didn’t fix everything before Cassian arrived, the entire plan—the pregnancy, the sympathy, the leverage I had over him—would crack like a cheap porcelain mask under a spotlight.“Miss Reed,” Nurse Lyla whispered sharply, her voice tight with urgency, “the text you sent said he saw something. What did he see?”“A crease,” I hissed, pacing the length of the hospital suite like a caged animal.“The smallest crease in the lower edge of the first silicone.”Just saying it made my pulse spike.A crease.A single goddamn crease.Barely visible unless you knew what to look for.But Cassian wasn’t an ordinary man. He’d built an empire by noticing details others dismissed.Fire a man for a crooked tie.Tear apart a contract over a misplaced comma.Spot a lie before it fully formed. He would’ve seen that crease. He would’ve thought. And thinking was dangerous.“We need to switch it out,” I said. “Now. The realistic one.”Nurs

—CASSIAN HALE- I didn’t remember getting into my car.One moment I was standing in Tristan Halenti’s living room—rage crawling up my spine, Elias clinging to Liana like she was the only safe thing left in the world—and the next I was behind the wheel, gripping it so hard my knuckles looked carved from bone.Everything between those moments was a blur. A smear. A blackout in motion. The streets flew past, headlights bending into smears of white while something hot and violent boiled through me.Scarlett bleeding.Scarlett collapsing.Scarlett whispering, “Cassian, something’s wrong—please come home—”And then her voice cracking into raw panic before it cut off entirely. Those images should’ve been the only thing in my head. But then came them.Liana’s face—steadily unreadable.Tristan’s voice—too quiet, too precise.Their insinuations—too sharp to ignore.Like they were pulling threads, planting seeds they knew would fester. And the worst part?It worked. What if the pregnancy wasn’t
