Chapter 10

“A maid?” Richard screamed as he stared at Barbara, who appeared to be uninterested in the conversation they were currently having.

“Yea, a maid!” Barbara replied nonchalantly as she picked up her lip gloss and rubbed it evenly around her lips.

Richard stood up and grabbed her by the wrist, causing her to yelp slightly in pain.

“I’m talking to you and when I talk to you, I need you to listen to me!” Richard barked angrily as he glared at Barbara, who rolled her eyes at him and pushed him away.

“The next time you lay your hands on me, I would do well to go to the media and tell them how abusive you are!” Barbara threatened as Richard took a few steps away from her.

He dug his hands into his head, sinking in great despair and wondering how his marriage turned out to be so bad.

“How would you make plans to bring in a maid without informing me?” Richard asked in shock as he shot her a dead glare.

“You have no idea if that’s what I want, and you shouldn’t take a decision without telling me about it”, Richard said defiantly while Barbara let out a loud hiss.

“I was only trying to help you out because you won’t get to see a lot of me soon”, Barbara divulged and returned her gaze to the mirror.

“What?” Richard asked as he gulped down hard in horror.

“I have some trips and rather than allowing you to die as a loner, I thought it would be nice to get you a maid who would ensure you stay alive”, Barbara snorted.

“I don’t actually give a damn if you live or die, but I hope you die because you suck!” Barbara continued as she suddenly started whistling and dabbing her powered to her face.

Richard made to talk, but the words got stuck in his throat.

He clenched his fists and fought back the tears that threatened to fall off his eyes.

“Okay! The interview commences tomorrow, and I would leave that for you to handle. Ensure you pick a maid who would take care of the house properly. Bye, until I see you again!” Barbara said without a glimpse of emotions on her face.

Richard made to stop her, but her knew that he would only be making a fool of himself. He loved her, but with each day that passed, he realized that loving her was the greatest mistake he ever made in his life.

“Fuck you!” He yelled on top of his voice the moment she left the apartment.

He couldn’t cry, neither could he utter a word. All he did was stare at the white wall that stood opposite where he sat.

Gradually, the feelings overwhelmed him, and he broke into tears, sniffing hard and smiling at his misery.

He felt worse because he had no one to talk to, especially because according to others, he was a perfect husband.

He wondered how and why he was to be responsible for an interview he wasn’t interested in.

After a while, he resolved to accepting a maid, since he would be needing some feminine assistance in the absence of Barbara.
