Zane

My eyes sweep every inch of the gallery, surveying whether hunters have dared to enter. They wouldn’t risk ruining my night—my werewolves are scattered throughout the territory, ready to tear them apart if they try. Still, I remain cautious. The humans here think I’m nothing more than a renowned artist, head of a top-tier Academy. Fools. My reality is far darker than they could ever comprehend. I am the Grand Alpha, the unchallenged leader of the most powerful wolf clan in the world.

Wolf Academy? It’s no ordinary school. It’s a training ground for wolves, a place where they learn to follow my orders. I am feared, and rightfully so. I’m the most dangerous man alive. My senses are sharper, my reflexes faster, my body heals in seconds, and when I attack—it’s brutal. All thanks to Kris, my red-eyed wolf. He’s the deadliest wolf across all clans. I run this city. Yet, the wolf hunters threaten to destroy my clan and end my rule.

Augustine, their leader, took my Luna from me. Lina’s blood is on his hands. Rage rushes through my veins, fueling my thirst for vengeance. My only goal now? Silence every last wolf hunter in this city, wipe them out, and claim the city for wolves.

But tonight? Tonight, Mr. Zane Christopher must play his part. “Thank you for coming,” I say, my voice polite and cold. My politeness is a cover, nothing more. “You’ve made the right choice for your evening,” I add, charming and self-aware, without a smile. My gaze remains cold. Smiles are for the weak. Speaking firmly, I continue, “Let’s raise a glass for a toast—to the love of art.” My face hardens, and the crowd echoes, “For the love of art.” Everyone smiles, sipping their drinks, while I take mine slowly, my eyes scanning the room as the cheers die down. The art exhibition is a huge success.

Werewolves despise humans entering our world. But these humans have their use. They’re a necessary evil, helping to protect our secret. My art hides the truth—that anything out of the ordinary ever happens here. This gallery, this entire event, is nothing more than a camouflage. Everything is going as I planned.

Yet something feels wrong.

Magdalena, my Beta, approaches. “We have some guests waiting for photos,” she says with a frown, her displeasure with humans clear.

I don’t respond. Something’s off. Kris, my wolf, shifts uneasily inside me, restless.

Then it hits me. A scent—unfamiliar, intoxicating. Kris stirs, desperate, his growl vibrating through my chest. My instincts flare, pulling me toward it. I hesitate, fight it, but the scent is relentless, dragging me forward. I move through the crowd, ignoring the voices calling my name.

I have to find the source of this scent. Now.

Kris is desperate, demanding. I don’t understand why, but I follow, unable to ignore the pull.

“Alpha Zane! Where are you going?” Magdalena’s voice trails behind me, but I don’t answer. My focus is locked elsewhere, drawn to the pull I can’t resist. Kris urges me on, growling, “Mate! Mate!” His voice is commanding, relentless.

No. I can’t allow this. Not after Lina. Not until Augustine’s blood spills at my feet. I won’t take another mate until I’ve fulfilled that promise. As long as Augustine still breathes, I can’t allow myself to choose another.

But the scent leads me to the balcony. And there she is—her back to me, hands resting on the railing, taking in the cool air. Kris roars, pushing against my will, demanding I claim her. But I won’t. She can’t be my mate. She’s human.

Kris’s hunger intensifies, pulling me toward her. “I can’t choose her, Kris,” I mutter, trying to shake the thought. Yet, I can’t help but wonder—could she really be my mate? No, it’s impossible. She’s a bloody human.

I turn, ready to leave her behind, but Kris pulls me back. My eyes land on her once more, and that’s when she turns. Our eyes lock, and heat floods my veins. A rush of passion consumes me, body and soul. Every instinct in me screams to claim her, to take her, to make her mine. She’s breathtakingly gorgeous, dressed in a stunning red evening gown that flows to her feet, the fabric hugging her in all the right places.

Magdalena catches up, but I don’t look away from the woman.

“Alpha Zane, we have VIPs waiting for you,” she says, knowing full well how resourceful they are to me. But I cut her off, my voice stern. “Who is she?”

Magdalena glances at the woman with disgust. “A human,” she spits. “Nothing more,” her voice oozing with contempt. Magdalena hates humans and has no patience for them.

“Find out who she is,” I command coldly. “Now.”

Magdalena hesitates but knows better than to question me. She walks away, and my gaze returns to the mysterious woman in red. She winks at me. With my hand clenched into a fist, I raise my index finger and motion for her to come closer. Her fear is rising inside, her heartbeat erratic as she approaches. She’s scared.

Good.

She stands before me, and the desire to claim her consumes every part of me. All I want is to take her here and now—feel her lips against mine. My hands itch to tear that red gown off her body, to press her beneath me. I want her naked, legs open, begging me to give her the best fuck she’s ever had. But no, I must resist.

Quiet, Kris! I command. I can’t desire another woman. It’s a battle in my head. But she’s a temptation that’s testing my limits.

You’re confused. Kris growls back.

No! I won’t let Kris have control. He’s pushing, wanting to claim her, but I hold him back, forcing myself to stay calm.

KatarinaIt hits me all at once. Before the mating ceremony—when we first met—Maik had spoken about my mom.“What do you know about her?” I ask, my anxiety rising again, tightening around my chest.“Patience is a virtue, Luna Katarina,” Maik says. “All will come to light soon enough.”Soon isn’t good enough for me. I need to know the truth. I can’t wait any longer. He has to tell me more.“No, please,” I beg. “If you knew my mom, just tell me what you know about her.”He holds my gaze, as if trying to make sure I hear every word. “Your mother was the opposite of your father. She believed in peace, and she went to great lengths to make it possible.” He sighs, the lines on his face deepening. “She had a dream she never lived to see fulfilled.”My brow furrows. “What dream?” What is he talking about?“Peace between the wolf clan and the wolf hunters.”“What?”That’s impossible! I whip my head toward Zane, and he looks just as shocked as I am. “But your father never supported her,” Maik

KatarinaI step out of the car and look up.Zane is here—standing there, waiting.I walk up to him. “Zane! What are you doing here?”I can’t hide the surprise on my face.“I’ve been waiting for you,” he says, unable to hide his displeasure either.“I didn’t think you were going to come.”“I didn’t think you’d want my support,” he retorts. “I don’t want you to take the wolf cure, Katarina,” he adds, his face serious, “but I won’t leave you alone either.”I smile and slip my hand into his. Together, we walk in to see Maik.“Ha! Alpha Zane and Luna Katarina!” Maik greets us like he already knew we were coming.I turn to Zane. “Did you tell him?”“Not at all,” he replies, though he doesn’t look surprised.“Come, sit. Drink some herbal tea with me,” Maik says, pouring tea from a white jar into three small teacups. He hands one to Zane, then one to me, and we sit down.“It’s good to see you back home safely and doing well, Luna Katarina,” he says, flashing his brownish teeth. “Alpha Zane wa

KatarinaWe both silently stare at each other, but I don’t have the courage to say anything else.“Katarina.” He finally speaks, giving me an incredulous look.“Zane, you always knew I never wanted to be a wolf.”“Yes,” he mutters, his hands clenching into fists. “But I held out hope. I thought if you got to know me—if you got to know Kris—you’d change your mind.”I drop my gaze. “I’m sorry.”“I’ll take you back home.” He grabs my coat from the cold ground and wraps it around me.“And the cure?” I ask.He looks at me, clearly irritated. “If you want a cure so badly, then go to Maik. He’s the only one who might have the answers you’re looking for.”There’s hope! “So there is a cure, after all?”He looks away, then turns back to me.“Once, when my grandfather was still Grand Alpha…” he pauses. “There were rumors that some packs had seers—ones who created cures for werewolves wanting to be free of their curse.” His eyes lock onto mine.“One werewolf in Wolf Zone heard about it and convin

KatarinaMy eyes open, and my hand stretches across the bed, searching for Zane. He’s not here.I get up and walk to the window, hoping to catch a glimpse of him—nothing. But then my eyes dart to the sky. It’s a full moon. I know where he is.I throw on a gown and wrap my coat tightly around my body before heading out.“Luna Katarina,” the werewolf guard at the first gate greets me.“Hello.”“I’m sorry, but I can’t let you leave. It’s dangerous. The full moon—”“I just want to go to the woods,” I say, cutting him off. “Precisely why I can’t let you go, Luna Katarina,” he retorts. “There are a lot of wolves loose in the woods. Alpha Zane would hate for you to be harmed.”He is clearly terrified of Zane. Then again, isn't everyone in the Wolf Zone? “Zane? Where is he?”“In the woods, Luna.”“Then that’s where I’m going.”He steps forward, trying to stop me.“He’ll protect me. Now let me go,” I demand, holding his gaze.He steps back, surprisingly obeying me. It’s good to know that be

ZaneWe arrive and walk straight into the Grand Hall. The werewolves are already seated and waiting. I clench Katarina’s hand even tighter as her heart starts to race again. I’m aware of the angry glares directed at her. Katarina isn’t loved because of who her father is, but if they only knew her like I do, they’d see there’s so much in her that could change any heart.Everyone rises as we walk by, honoring us. I take my seat on the Grand Alpha throne, with Katarina next to me. Adam is already seated.“Bring him in,” Adam says. They bring Rex in, and murmurs spread through the hall. Cyrus hesitates, but I give him a nudge, and he respectfully pulls Rex to his knees.“Are you aware of the charges against you, Alpha Rex?” Ethan steps forward.“Yes, Alpha Ethan.”“And why are you here?”“The Grand Alpha—my cousin—has accused me of abducting his weak human mate.”“Shut your fucking mouth!” I snap, unable to help myself. Katarina holds me back, restraining me from doing more.“And are you

Zane“What is it, Zane? Why did you pause? What wouldn’t I like to hear?” she rushes out all at once. How do I tell her?Damn, this is hard. She steps back just a little, but her eyes never leave mine.“You were with her, weren’t you? Magdalena.”“No!” The lie bursts out before I can stop it.Damn it.Relief washes over her face as she exhales, slowly. “Then… where were you? All night?”“Hunting,” I lie again, forcing a straight face. “We were tracking wolf hunters.”The look on her face tells me she’s not pleased. She hates the idea of me hunting them. “That’s why I said you wouldn’t like it,” I add. “You wouldn’t want to hear that I was out hunting your faction.”She tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “I get it,” she says. “We’re from enemy worlds. I wasn’t expecting anything different.”“Do you hate me, Katarina?”Her deep blue eyes find mine again. “No, Zane. I could never hate you.”She swallows. “I’m in love with you, Zane Christopher.”I stare into her eyes until I s
