Zane

My eyes sweep every inch of the gallery, surveying whether hunters have dared to enter. They wouldn’t risk ruining my night—my werewolves are scattered throughout the territory, ready to tear them apart if they try. Still, I remain cautious. The humans here think I’m nothing more than a renowned artist, head of a top-tier Academy. Fools. My reality is far darker than they could ever comprehend. I am the Grand Alpha, the unchallenged leader of the most powerful wolf clan in the world.

Wolf Academy? It’s no ordinary school. It’s a training ground for wolves, a place where they learn to follow my orders. I am feared, and rightfully so. I’m the most dangerous man alive. My senses are sharper, my reflexes faster, my body heals in seconds, and when I attack—it’s brutal. All thanks to Kris, my red-eyed wolf. He’s the deadliest wolf across all clans. I run this city. Yet, the wolf hunters threaten to destroy my clan and end my rule.

Augustine, their leader, took my Luna from me. Lina’s blood is on his hands. Rage rushes through my veins, fueling my thirst for vengeance. My only goal now? Silence every last wolf hunter in this city, wipe them out, and claim the city for wolves.

But tonight? Tonight, Mr. Zane Christopher must play his part. “Thank you for coming,” I say, my voice polite and cold. My politeness is a cover, nothing more. “You’ve made the right choice for your evening,” I add, charming and self-aware, without a smile. My gaze remains cold. Smiles are for the weak. Speaking firmly, I continue, “Let’s raise a glass for a toast—to the love of art.” My face hardens, and the crowd echoes, “For the love of art.” Everyone smiles, sipping their drinks, while I take mine slowly, my eyes scanning the room as the cheers die down. The art exhibition is a huge success.

Werewolves despise humans entering our world. But these humans have their use. They’re a necessary evil, helping to protect our secret. My art hides the truth—that anything out of the ordinary ever happens here. This gallery, this entire event, is nothing more than a camouflage. Everything is going as I planned.

Yet something feels wrong.

Magdalena, my Beta, approaches. “We have some guests waiting for photos,” she says with a frown, her displeasure with humans clear.

I don’t respond. Something’s off. Kris, my wolf, shifts uneasily inside me, restless.

Then it hits me. A scent—unfamiliar, intoxicating. Kris stirs, desperate, his growl vibrating through my chest. My instincts flare, pulling me toward it. I hesitate, fight it, but the scent is relentless, dragging me forward. I move through the crowd, ignoring the voices calling my name.

I have to find the source of this scent. Now.

Kris is desperate, demanding. I don’t understand why, but I follow, unable to ignore the pull.

“Alpha Zane! Where are you going?” Magdalena’s voice trails behind me, but I don’t answer. My focus is locked elsewhere, drawn to the pull I can’t resist. Kris urges me on, growling, “Mate! Mate!” His voice is commanding, relentless.

No. I can’t allow this. Not after Lina. Not until Augustine’s blood spills at my feet. I won’t take another mate until I’ve fulfilled that promise. As long as Augustine still breathes, I can’t allow myself to choose another.

But the scent leads me to the balcony. And there she is—her back to me, hands resting on the railing, taking in the cool air. Kris roars, pushing against my will, demanding I claim her. But I won’t. She can’t be my mate. She’s human.

Kris’s hunger intensifies, pulling me toward her. “I can’t choose her, Kris,” I mutter, trying to shake the thought. Yet, I can’t help but wonder—could she really be my mate? No, it’s impossible. She’s a bloody human.

I turn, ready to leave her behind, but Kris pulls me back. My eyes land on her once more, and that’s when she turns. Our eyes lock, and heat floods my veins. A rush of passion consumes me, body and soul. Every instinct in me screams to claim her, to take her, to make her mine. She’s breathtakingly gorgeous, dressed in a stunning red evening gown that flows to her feet, the fabric hugging her in all the right places.

Magdalena catches up, but I don’t look away from the woman.

“Alpha Zane, we have VIPs waiting for you,” she says, knowing full well how resourceful they are to me. But I cut her off, my voice stern. “Who is she?”

Magdalena glances at the woman with disgust. “A human,” she spits. “Nothing more,” her voice oozing with contempt. Magdalena hates humans and has no patience for them.

“Find out who she is,” I command coldly. “Now.”

Magdalena hesitates but knows better than to question me. She walks away, and my gaze returns to the mysterious woman in red. She winks at me. With my hand clenched into a fist, I raise my index finger and motion for her to come closer. Her fear is rising inside, her heartbeat erratic as she approaches. She’s scared.

Good.

She stands before me, and the desire to claim her consumes every part of me. All I want is to take her here and now—feel her lips against mine. My hands itch to tear that red gown off her body, to press her beneath me. I want her naked, legs open, begging me to give her the best fuck she’s ever had. But no, I must resist.

Quiet, Kris! I command. I can’t desire another woman. It’s a battle in my head. But she’s a temptation that’s testing my limits.

You’re confused. Kris growls back.

No! I won’t let Kris have control. He’s pushing, wanting to claim her, but I hold him back, forcing myself to stay calm.

Katarina I feel so heavy. This is the third trimester, and the baby could come any day now. Carrying my child feels like it’s draining the very life out of me. I’ve grown weaker with each month, yet it becomes bearable because Zane loves me through it all. Maybe it isn’t about me anymore but about our baby—but every second of his attention, his tenderness, his care, I want to cherish while it lasts.Today, he went to meet with the Wolf Council. Five long hours have passed. He’s never left me and the baby alone for this long. I can’t sit still any longer. I’m going to the Council building to find him.q“Luna Katarina, I strongly advise against you leaving the house in your condition,” Roselyn frets as I sling my bag over my shoulder and move toward the door.“I’ll be fine, Roselyn. Zane will bring me back home.” I give her a warm hug before stepping into the back seat of the car, ready to see him.Soon, I’m standing before the giant red doors of the Wolf Council building. The two wolv

Katarina He looks away for a moment, probably pondering if he can really give peace with the wolf hunters a chance.“I think that…” he whispers, his eyes dropping to my lips. “I love you.” His mouth brushes mine as he breathes the words. “And I’m going to kill Augustine and every single hunter from that night. Then,” he kisses me again, “you and I can give peace a chance.”“Zane…” I try to draw back, but he holds me. “Katarina, I’d never spare Augustine.” His tone goes cold instantly. “Your peace is far-fetched as long as he’s alive. If you mean what you say about unity, then you know your father has to die. It’s the only way.”“He’s still my father,” I mumble, unwilling to accept it.“We all have to make sacrifices for the greater good.” His thumb and index finger grip my jaw, his eyes locked on mine. “We have our child’s future to worry about now.”God, I feel responsible. “I had no idea telling my dad about you and Adam would backfire on our child. I’m sorry.”He lets go of my ja

Katarina “Zane,” I murmur, feeling tense as my eyes dart from him approaching us to nervous Cassandra and Bex, both practically shaking. “He’s not here. It’s just us girls.”He turns his gaze to Bex and Cassandra, who nod, trembling like leaves, confirming my words.“I see you have company,” he frowns at them, stern.“Alpha Zane,” they both call out, bowing low to honor him.“We’re sorry, Alpha Zane. We thought you’d be longer at the Wolf Council meeting,” Bex chatters nervously. “We were just about to leave.”“You were?” I murmur, but Bex pinches me to stay quiet. I catch the code.Zane’s hard gaze shifts between my two friends. “What scheme are you two helping her plot this time?”“None, Grand Alpha,” Cassandra says immediately, lowering her head under his stare.“You all helped Katarina with her plans,” he points between them. “And where the hell is that Cyprian who thinks he can rival me for Katarina?”“He…he…we don’t know,” Bex stammers, tense. “I think he’s with another woman n

Katarina “How do I know you’re not lying to me, Adam?”“He’s not,” Maik interrupts. “He’s the man your mother came to see, Luna Katarina.”I let out a breath, remembering when Zane and I touched the moon ball and Maik said I reminded him of my mother. Everything he’d said about her is starting to make sense now.“Maik never lies, Katarina,” Zane whispers.“How could you love my mother and treat me so terribly?” I murmur. It doesn’t add up. “You hated me right until this baby. You wanted me dead!”“You’re right, I did,” he admits, lowering his gaze, ashamed. “I loathed your father. He kept Maria away from me and couldn’t even protect her, the selfish, controlling bastard.”“So you conveniently forgot that I’m my mother’s daughter too?” I snap.“No. But I thought you were more like him.” I see the guilt in his face. “Maria was supposed to escape with you so I could meet you. But she died, and I heard you became Augustine’s protégé, raised to be just like him, hungry for wolf blood.”“Y

Katarina Maybe I will finally become a wolf or maybe I won’t. Either way, I need answers. And if Zane’s outburst is what it takes to get them, then I’m willing to go that far too.“Please, Maik,” I whisper, wanting him to tell me more. “I’m begging you.”Maik’s eyes soften, as If he understands the pain I feel. “I’m not protecting your mother’s murderer, far from it, Luna Katarina. I swear on the Moon Goddess,” he assures me but then hesitates. “Your mother had an ally in the Wolf Council. He’s the one who knows the truth.”“Stop beating around the bush, Maik,” Zane demands. “Who the fuck is this ally?”“I am,” Adam replies.“Huh?” My head jerks toward him, stunned. “What?”“Adam, this isn’t a fucking game!” Zane yells. “If this is what Katarina needs to let her wolf out, then she damn well is going to have it!” He points at Adam. “This isn’t the time to protect Maik!”“I’m not protecting Maik,” Adam fires back, letting out a deep breath. “It’s the other way around.”He turns to me.

Before it gets ruined.Alpha Adam returns with Maik snapping me out of my daze.I sit up from Zane’s chest.“Maik. Welcome,” Zane greets with firmness, clearing his throat and moving a bit away from me.“Alpha Zane. Luna Katarina.” Maik bows respectfully to Zane, then to me. “How do you feel, Luna Katarina?”“I feel like… my stomach’s turning into a giant ball,” I laugh, and for a brief moment, they all laugh with
