Kara's POV

"Is she up yet?"

"Not yet, Boss."

Familiar voices murmured around me. My head throbbed as I forced my heavy eyelids open. A dull ache pulsed behind my eyes, but I fought through it.

"Kara, are you there?" a soft voice coaxed gently.

I blinked, adjusting to the dim lighting of the room. It was the same place I had woken up earlier, but this time, I wasn’t alone. Gigi, Zayn, and others stood around me.

My gaze landed on Rodrigo, who stood by the window, his hands tucked into his pockets, his expression unreadable.

"Finally, you're up. You scared us," Gigi said with a relieved smile.

I barely heard her. My mind replayed Rodrigo’s words from before, haunting me even in unconsciousness.

"Rodrigo," I called out, and the room fell silent as all eyes shifted toward him. "What do I do now?"

"First, we get you prepared for the shift," he said without hesitation. "I know you have a lot of questions, and I promise to answer them, but right now, we need to focus."

Something was different. My body felt… off. The sharp pain in my ankle was gone, the wound nonexistent. I ran my fingers over my skin, finding nothing but smooth flesh.

"It healed on its own," Gigi explained, sensing my confusion.

A sharp, aching throb pulsed through my gums, my senses tingling. I could hear the waves of the ocean outside, clearer than ever. Every sound, every scent, intensified. My pulse quickened.

Rodrigo motioned for me to follow him, and I obeyed, my feet moving almost instinctively. He led me down the hall to a door, its heavy frame sending an unsettling chill down my spine.

"What is this place?" I asked, hesitating at the threshold.

"A cellar," he replied simply, stepping inside.

The dimly lit room was different from the rest of the house. The air was thick with something primal. My eyes darted around, taking in the chains, collars, and handcuffs that lined the walls. My stomach churned.

"Why are we here?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Rodrigo turned to face me, exhaustion evident in his features. Dark circles clung beneath his eyes, proof that he hadn’t rested in days—weeks, even.

"We’re here for you, sweet Kara," he murmured.

"For me?"

"Yes."

Before I could process his words, pain shot through my legs. I screamed as I crumpled to the ground, agony coursing through every nerve in my body.

"It has begun," Rodrigo muttered.

"What has—?" My sentence broke off as another wave of pain shattered through me.

My bones twisted and contorted, sending fresh agony ripping through me. I couldn’t stop the scream that tore from my throat. Before I knew it, Rodrigo grabbed me, dragging me to the wall. Cold metal snapped around my wrists and ankles.

"Please—stop! What are you doing?" I gasped between ragged breaths.

"Relax. This is safer for you. I promise, the pain will pass."

Safe? This was anything but safe.

A guttural scream wrenched from my lips as the pain worsened. My body burned, my skin stretching and shifting as fur sprouted across my arms. Claws extended from my fingers, sharp and lethal. My legs buckled, reforming into something… inhuman.

I tried to scream, but all that came out was a howl.

I wasn't me anymore.

Rodrigo's POV

She had shifted.

I watched as Kara, now in full wolf form, growled and thrashed against the chains. Her sleek brown fur bristled with agitation, her golden eyes locked onto me with wild fury.

"Boss, how is she?"

Zayn stepped into the room, glancing at the restrained wolf.

"Successfully shifted," I said, arms crossed. "But, as expected, she’s not taking it well."

"She’s aggressive in person, too," Zayn mumbled, earning a smirk from me.

"She’ll settle."

We stepped out of the cellar, leaving her to adjust. Her howls echoed behind us, primal and untamed.

"Boss, any idea who bit her?" Gigi asked later as we sat in my office.

I exhaled, rubbing my temples. "No clue. But whoever it was… they’re not ordinary."

The next morning, the sun stood high in the sky as I walked into the cellar, a blanket draped over my arm.

She was curled on the ground, bloodied and trembling. Her human form had returned, leaving her naked and vulnerable. I unshackled her chains, then wrapped the blanket around her before lifting her into my arms.

She stirred hours later, dressed and lying in her bed. A book rustled as I flipped through its pages beside her.

"Rodrigo…" she murmured, her voice hoarse.

"You slept all day, Miss Nox," I teased, smirking.

"Miss Nox?" she repeated, frowning.

The door creaked open, and the boy from before entered, placing a tray of food beside her.

Her stomach growled at the sight, and she wasted no time digging in.

"I'll be in my office when you’re done," I said, standing. Without waiting for a response, I left.

---

When she walked into my office later, I was buried in paperwork. She leaned against the desk, arms crossed.

"I never pictured you as a paperwork guy," she mused.

I raised a brow, smirking. "And what did you picture?"

She shrugged. "I don’t know… guns, warehouses, maybe even drugs."

A deep chuckle escaped me. "You need to do better research, Miss Nox."

She rolled her eyes, and I slid a tablet across the desk.

"Before you start asking questions, there’s something you should see."

She picked up the tablet, her expression shifting from confusion to horror as she read.

"How is this possible?" she whispered.

I leaned forward. "Everything in that article is true. Zach Bills and the ASA are not who you think they are."

Her breath hitched.

"And I also know you were raped."

Silence.

Her body tensed, hands clutching the tablet.

"You knew?" she whispered. Her voice cracked, eyes glassy with unshed tears.

"The doctor confirmed signs of assault after your check-up."

Her breaths grew shallow. "I never saw his face. He was strong, wild… there was nothing I could do."

"It’s not your fault," I said firmly. "You were drugged. There was no way you could’ve fought him off."

Her grip on the tablet tightened.

"If what you’re saying is true, I need to confront Zach. I need to know why ASA betrayed me. And I need to find the bastard who did this to me."

A slow smirk curved my lips. That’s the fire I wanted to see.

A week passed.

Kara trained relentlessly, learning to control her shifts. She researched, studied, prepared. But nighttime was the hardest. I knew she barely slept, haunted by the nightmares of that night.

She wasn’t alone anymore.

Malia and the twin, understood her struggles. Gigi, despite being human, had become part of our family.

She sat in the living room, staring blankly at the TV. I found her there easily.

"I thought I’d find you here," I mused.

She smirked. "I heard you coming, Rodrigo. Perks of being a shifter, I guess."

I snorted. "You like it, don’t you?"

She scoffed. "I never wanted this in the first place."

"Yet here you are," I murmured, stealing her mug of tea for a sip.

She sighed.

"Are you ready for tomorrow?"

She hesitated, then nodded. "I am."

I studied her carefully. The past haunted her, but I feared what it might turn her into.

"You’re not alone in this," I reminded her.

Her lips parted slightly, and after a moment, she whispered, "Thank you, Rodrigo."

"Now get some rest," I said, standing. "Tomorrow is a big day."

  • BITTEN   The reason

Kara’s POV“Kara, are you sure about this?”“Yes, I am. Follow him.”We were back in the car, the tension thick in the air as we trailed the red sports car that zoomed ahead on the highway. My gaze never left it for a second, eyes narrowed, jaw tight. Rodrigo drove a few safe miles behind, his fingers tapping the steering wheel in restrained anticipation. My gut never really failed me. Every time it clenched like this, every time that feeling crawled under my skin, I was right. And I felt it now, loud and urgent. We drove for nearly two long hours. The city lights faded behind us, swallowed by an eerie stillness as we entered the outskirts. He was leading us somewhere quiet… somewhere hidden. We arrived at a hospital. Old, forgotten. Standing in the shadow of trees, its exterior worn and crumbling like a relic of another time.“What could he be hiding in a hospital? And one like this?” Bryson asked, frowning. The place looked abandoned, overgrown vines clutching at broken walls, shatt

  • BITTEN   Mr Graves

KARA POVThe room smelled of musk and tobacco. A dim amber light flickered from an antique lamp in the corner, casting long shadows across the wood-paneled walls. A fireplace, unused but grand sat behind the tall man standing before us.He looked like he’d stepped out of a mobster movie. Black hair slicked back, a perfectly trimmed mustache perched above his lips. The lines on his face spoke of years, but age hadn’t taken his charm. If anything, it sharpened him. He looked to be in his fifties, but he wore that age like armor proud, and untouchable. The smirk stretched across his lips like it had been carved there. Arrogant. Unbothered. Like nothing in this world could touch him.“You’re too late,” he said, voice smooth, careless.Bryson stepped forward, arms crossed tight. “What do you mean? Selene sent us to you.”The man’s eyes, dark and sharp like storm clouds before lightning, flicked to Bryson. “Then she sent you to the wrong person.”That glare, cold and calculated slid over

  • BITTEN   Running out of time

KARA’S POVThe soft clang of metal echoed outside the window. I stood still, one hand resting against the cool glass, watching the guards train below. They moved with sharp focus, muscles taut with discipline. It was a simple scene routine, almost, but it grounded me for a moment. Gave me something to look at that wasn’t tied to the chaos in my heart. But my thoughts didn’t stay there. They pulled me back—back to earlier, back to the look on Dylan’s face when I gave the order to release Nia.His silence had said everything. The tight line of his jaw, the flash of betrayal in his eyes, the way his whole body went still. He hadn’t argued. He didn’t need to. I’d felt the weight of his disappointment press into my chest, even as I stood firm.I had to do it. There was no other way.Nia was still family, whether Dylan wanted to accept that or not. She was Theon’s mate. Killing her, keeping her locked away... it wouldn’t fix anything. It wouldn’t make me safer, wouldn’t make the bond strong

  • BITTEN   Reminder of our time

KARA’s povThe past five days had been nothing short of a fever dream. We did nothing but fuck, eat, and sleep in endless loops of need—our bodies tangled in sweaty sheets, our mouths never far from a gasp or a moan. That heat… it wasn’t something either of us had prepared for. We never even talked about it, And now I understood why.No one could explain what that kind of hunger felt like. The ache. The burn. The way my body betrayed every rational thought, every fear. I needed him like I needed oxygen, and Dylan—he gave himself to me without restraint. My Alpha took care of me, owned me, fucked me like I was the only woman left in this world. And he was the only man who could ease that hellish fire that spread through every nerve in my body.It was magic, and it was madness.Pain laced with euphoria. My body opened to him in ways I never knew it could. He explored every inch of me like I was sacred ground and he was starving. And I—God, I loved it.But even now, as the scent of him

  • BITTEN   That’s mine, all of it.

Dylan’s POVShe was limp in my arms, body glistening with sweat, face buried in my neck, breath warm against my collarbone. We were both still naked—our bodies tangled on the couch like animals in the aftermath of war. Her thighs were streaked with the evidence of what we’d done, her skin still flushed, her heart still racing beneath the curve of her ribs. But she didn’t speak. Not a word. The fire crackled low, shadows dancing across the wooden beams overhead. Her body rested on mine, but her mind… her mind was somewhere else. And I felt it. Every mile she drifted.I didn’t move. I just held her tighter. Listened to her breathing, counted the pauses between each inhale. Silence had never felt this loud. Her fingers were still curled slightly at my chest, but there was no pressure behind them now. Just her hand resting there like a forgotten memory.I exhaled, dragged my palm up her spine, and whispered, “You’re quiet.”She didn’t answer.“Tell me what’s in your head, Kara.”Still not

  • BITTEN   Far from over

Dylan’s POVThe water steamed around us, Kara’s heat flaring with every shallow breath she took. We'd been in the tub nearly an hour now, her body a constant furnace, overheating the water each time it began to cool. I had to keep draining and refilling it, over and over again, but it didn’t matter. I would’ve done it all night if I had to.She lay between my legs, back resting against my chest, her head lolled to the side. Her skin was damp and flushed, and I could feel her heartbeat thrumming like a war drum against my chest. I held her tighter, my arms banded around her like steel.“Breathe, baby…” I whispered, lips brushing the shell of her ear. “I’ve got you. Just breathe through it. You’re safe here. With me.”Her fingers clutched my forearm, nails digging in when another wave of heat struck. I kissed the side of her neck, trying to distract her from the pain. The fire inside her was cruel—searing, merciless. My mate. My fucking mate, and I couldn’t even absorb the pain for her.
