MALTREATMENT

Lena's POV

My father grabbed my arm suddenly and yanked me forward.

His grip was cruel, his fingers digging into my skin like claws.

“Stop talking!” he snarled. “Stop making excuses! You are the danger. You are the curse!”

The words shattered something inside me.

Curse.

That word again.

The same word the pack had used for years.

The same label that had followed me like a shadow.

I felt tears spill down my cheeks, but I did not wipe them. I did not have the strength.

My mother poi

THE MAN IN SHADOW Lena's POV The forest changed as we walked. Not visibly at first. The trees were still tall, their trunks thick and ancient. But the air shifted from chaotic magic to something more controlled. The hidden market’s noise faded completely, replaced by a deep, unsettling silence. He walked ahead of me without looking back, his cloak barely brushing the ground despite the uneven terrain. I studied his movements carefully. There was nothing rushed in them. No nervous energy. He did not behave like someone who had just purchased property. He behaved like someone who had reclaimed something. My wolf moved cautiously within me, no longer suppressed but not fully relaxed either. She did not sense immediate threat. But she did not sense safety. After several minutes, I spoke.“Why?” My voice sounded steadier than I felt.He did not slow.“Why what?”“Why me?”The question felt fragile leaving my mouth. He stopped walking then. Slowly, he turned.Even in the dim light, I coul

SOLD IN THE HIDDEN MARKET Lena's POV I knew something was wrong the moment they blindfolded me.Not the rough, careless kind of wrong I had grown used to in my parents’ house. Not the familiar sting of a slap or the suffocating weight of humiliation. This was colder. Calculated. Ritualistic. They did not speak to me as they bound my wrists with silver-threaded rope. Silver did not burn my skin fully, but it weakened me enough to keep my wolf subdued. She paced inside me restlessly, claws scraping against the walls of my consciousness, but she could not surface. The ropes hummed faintly with enchantment.I did not cry. Not because I was brave. But because I was too tired. The cart they threw me into smelled of iron and damp wood. When it began to move, I felt every jolt in my bones. I tried to count the turns, the slopes, the time between stops, but eventually the forest swallowed all sense of direction. My wolf strained to mark territory, to map scent and sound, but the air itself f

I did not have the strength. My mother pointed toward the kitchen like a judge passing sentence.“Go and wash the dishes,” she ordered coldly. “Every plate. Every pot. Every cup. And if I see one stain, you will regret being born.”I stared at her.Not because I was surprised. But because the pain of hearing it again—after I had tasted love—was unbearable. This was the part that destroyed me the most. Not the slap. Not the insult. But the return. The return to the old cruelty, as though those few days of hope had only been a cruel joke

ELDER'S CONTEMPTLena's POV The news did not arrive like a whisper. It arrived like a blade. It was late afternoon when the council guards appeared at our doorstep, their heavy boots grinding against the stones of our yard as though they had come to announce a death. My mother had been inside folding clothes, my father seated outside, sharpening his hunting knife with the slow patience of a man who believed he still had control over his life. But the moment the guards stepped forward, my father’s hands paused. And my mother’s breath caught. In our pack, guards did not visit a family’s home unless the matter was serious. Unless shame was about to be delivered like a verdict. They did not greet us warmly. They did not smile. They only bowed their heads slightly, with a formality that felt colder than winter.“The Elders request the presence of Mr. and Mrs. Hale,” one of them said.My father rose slowly, wiping his hands on his trousers.“What is it about?” he asked, his voice cautious.

RONIN FLEE!Lena's POVThree days. That was how long it took for joy to begin rotting into fear.At first, I told myself Ronin was simply busy. He was a warrior—respected, admired, and constantly needed. The pack relied on him, and the elders trusted him. It was normal for a man like him to disappear for a while, especially after what had happened between us in the forest. After the kiss. After the strange wind. After the warning that had sliced through our moment like a blade. But as the hours became days, my reassurance began to sound like lies whispered to my own heart. The first day, I searched for him casually.I went to the training ground, hoping I would find him among the warriors, his broad shoulders gleaming under the sun, his presence commanding without effort. But the field was filled with others. Strong men. Loud men. Men who laughed and sparred and bled.Yet Ronin was nowhere. The second day, I searched more desperately.I walked near the patrol routes, along the pack bo

GENUINE CONVERSATIONLens's POV The wind did not last long, yet its presence lingered like a bruise on the air.For several seconds after it stopped, Ronin remained still, his body tense, his gaze fixed on the forest as though he expected the trees themselves to reveal an enemy. I could feel his heartbeat through the closeness between us—steady, powerful, protective. My own heart beat faster, not from love now, but from instinctive fear.My wolf stayed silent, unusually withdrawn, as though she too was listening to something deeper than sound. The forest, which had moments ago felt like a sacred sanctuary, now felt like a trap dressed in beauty. Ronin finally exhaled, slow and controlled, though his eyes remained sharp.“We should go,” he said quietly.I nodded without argument. Something about the wind had unsettled me too deeply to resist. I did not know what it meant, but I knew it was not normal. I knew it was not harmless.Ronin reached for my hand, and the moment our fingers in
