Chapter 8

The Grand Horizon Club sat atop the highest hill in the city’s exclusive district, a private glass pavilion accessible only to multi-millionaires and old money aristocrats.

When Kayden’s private chauffeur opened the door of the smooth Rolls-Royce Phantom, Celine stepped out into the crisp morning air, her ivory midi dress catching the early sunlight.

She kept her head high, her heels clicking softly against the marble pavement as a white-gloved captain ushered her toward a secluded, flower-filled terrace overlooking the misty valley below.

Kayden was already standing by the edge of the terrace, a crystal glass of sparkling water in his hand.

The moment his eyes fell on Celine, a dark, intense hunger flashed across his handsome features.

His gaze traveled slowly down her high-necked dress, lingering on the elegant curve of her waist and the sleek lines of her legs.

"Beautiful," Kayden murmured, stepping forward and taking her hand.

Instead of a standard, polite greeting, he pressed his lips to the back of her hand, holding it just a second too long. "My mother has excellent taste, but seeing you in the morning light... you are far more captivating than I remembered from your hospital file."

Celine quietly withdrew her hand, taking her seat across from him at the cleanly set mahogany table. "Thank you for the breakfast invitation, Mr. Smith. And thank you for the wardrobe. Though, I must admit, sending an entire boutique to my residence felt a bit excessive."

Kayden chuckled, a rich, patronizing sound as he signaled the waiters to begin serving the truffle-infused eggs and fresh pastries. "For a woman of your caliber, Celine, nothing is excessive. I know all about your past. I know about the financial struggles, the medical school loans, and the unfortunate debts your late parents left behind."

He leaned forward, resting his forearms on the table, his eyes locking onto hers with a heavy intensity. "I can make all of that vanish with a single stroke of my pen. I can clear your name with the medical board by noon today. But I am a businessman, Celine. I expect a proper return on my investments."

Celine’s mind immediately froze. She kept her tone perfectly measured. "And what exactly is the return you are looking for, Kayden?"

"A traditional arrangement," Kayden said smoothly, his eyes dropping to her lips before returning to her gaze. "I need a wife who understands her role. I want you back in the hospital, yes, but only until our first child arrives. Once you get pregnant with the Smith heir, I expect you to step down from active surgery. A traditional Smith wife belongs at home, managing our estate, raising our children, and maintaining the family dignity while I handle the empire."

A cold, heavy knot formed in Celine’s stomach.

"You speak of children and retirement very easily for a man who only met me yesterday," Celine said, her smile masking the absolute disgust rising in her throat.

"When I see something I want, I don't waste time, Celine," Kayden murmured, his hand sliding across the table, his fingers brushing against her wrist with a lingering, lustful warmth. "And right now, I want you."

Meanwhile, across the city at the glass and steel headquarters of Smith Enterprises, the atmosphere in the penthouse executive office was practically sub-zero.

Darius Smith sat behind his massive obsidian desk, his dark eyes fixed on a high-resolution surveillance photograph that had just been uploaded to his tablet.

The image showed Celine sitting on the sunlit terrace of the Grand Horizon Club, with Kayden’s hand resting dangerously close to her wrist.

Standing across from the desk, Marcus swallowed hard, sweat practically beading at his temples. "Our intelligence team confirmed it ten minutes ago, sir. Dr. Celine accepted a breakfast invitation from your brother. They are currently dining at the pavilion."

The pen in Darius’s hand snapped completely in two, the dark ink bleeding across his white writing pad. A terrifying silence filled the room.

Darius stood up slowly, his towering frame casting a long, menacing shadow across the office floor. His jaw was clenched so tightly the muscles jumped beneath his tanned skin.

"Kayden thinks he can touch what is mine?" Darius growled, his voice dropping so low that it made Marcus take a subconscious step backward. "He thinks he can use my mother’s manipulation to corner her?"

"Should I intercept the date, sir?" Marcus asked quickly.

"No," Darius commanded, his eyes blazing with a fury as he stared at Celine’s face on the screen. "Let him play his cheap, arrogant games."

Darius walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, staring out at the city skyline. The jealousy burning in his chest was a living, breathing monster.

If Celine was testing them, if she was weighing her options between the two factions, he would make sure his brother’s little morning show looked like a childish joke by nighttime.

"Marcus," Darius ordered, not turning around.

"Yes, sir?"

"Cancel all my afternoon meetings. Contact the master chef at L’Étoile. I want the entire restaurant shut down for tonight. No exceptions. Clear out the staff, clear out the patrons. I want absolute privacy."

Darius’s fingers curled into a tight fist against the glass pane. "And contact the premium florist. I want the entire venue styled in white lilies, the exact fragrance she kept in her medical locker during her residency."

Marcus’s eyes widened. "Sir, shutting down L'Étoile on a Wednesday will cost hundreds of thousands in liquidated damages"

"I don't care about the cost," Darius interrupted coldly, a dangerous, dark smirk finally touching his lips. "My brother wants to give her trash. I am going to give her the world. If she wants a showdown, I will make this a night she will never live to forget. Inform her chauffeur to be ready by seven-thirty sharp."

Chapter 10The glowing monitors cast a soft, blue hue across the security operations room, contrasting sharply with the pitch-black night outside. Marcus stood perfectly still, his breath hitched as he watched his boss. He was waiting for the inevitable explosion of his rage, the corporate orders that usually followed a breached schedule or a wasted fortune. Shutting down L’Étoile had cost a lot of money, and the Darius had never tolerated inefficiency.Darius, however, remained completely captivated by the sleeping girl on the screen."You are dismissed for the night, Marcus," Darius spoke softly, his eyes never wavering from the monitor. "In fact, take the next two days off. Turn off your corporate phone. Go spend time with your family."Marcus blinked, his mouth parting in absolute shock. For a second, he wondered if the man sitting in front of him was an impostor. In the five years he had served as Darius Smith’s right hand, he had never been given a spontaneous holiday. Dari

Chapter 9The heavy double doors of the penthouse had barely clicked shut before Celine kicked off the pumps Kayden had bought her. She let out a long, ragged breath, her shoulders sagging as the elegant facade she had maintained all morning completely crumbled. She felt filthy. The lingering memory of Kayden's lustful gaze and his arrogant assumption that she would gladly trade her surgical career to become a high society incubator made her stomach churn with rage."Traditional wife," she scoffed to the empty, luxurious living room, ripping the pins out of her hair and letting the dark locks fall around her shoulders. "An asset. A prize."Desperate to scrub the day off her skin, Celine walked into the master bathroom and turned the shower dial to steaming hot. She stood under the heavy spray for nearly thirty minutes, letting the water wash away the expensive scent of the Grand Horizon Club. When she stepped out, she bypassed the racks of designer outfits and pulled on a set of

"Celine! Oh my god, thank goodness you called. I saw the medical board's update online and I have been worried sick. Are you okay? With her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird, she pushed past Darius’s towering frame, unlocked the consultation room door, and practically sprinted down the VIP corridor.
