By evening the news of Damian’s wedding had spread throughout the elite society and everyone wanted to know who the bride was, although their family was feared having connections with them would not only increase wealth and status it would bring power, respect and fear to many of the elites this was what mattered most they had often tried to get such connections and would get turned down, hence they stopped trying and just waited in hope, so everyone wondered who finally got the golden opportunity, such connections in the safest way possible.

The Romano mansion became busy with preparations which was weird because this would be a low profile court wedding, odd for families of their caliber but this was the instruction passed down, days went by and as the day of the wedding came closer, Amaya became more miserable, even she ran away her family would have to face the consequences, her family was the definition of old money but would not stand a chance next to the Allucci-Rossi family, there was nothing she could do but hope this so-called husband would be nice but the rumors she heard said otherwise, he was described as inhumane and ruthless, she remembered how she would lose faith in humanity anytime she heard one of his stories.

How could this have happened to her? how unlucky was she?

For a few days she did nothing but cry her eyes out and finally accepted her faith, still not understanding why her parents chose to do this but it was now her cross to carry.

WEDDING DAY

The day had finally come, there was everything in Amaya’s heart but joy and warmth, what was more depressing was she still hadn’t met this so-called groom, she hoped to see him before the wedding and maybe reason with him but the wedding day had now come with no groom in sight, maybe he doesn’t want to get married to her either this possibility although a bit embarrassing it gave her some hope maybe she wouldn’t have to get married and it wouldn’t be her fault, an easy way out.

The doorbell rang and a strange man came in with a file, Bailey rushed out and said “He’s here”. In less than five minutes the whole family was present in the main living area and Amaya was sent for, another man walked in and a couple of servants followed suite carrying trays of gifts containing the most expensive scents and many more.

Apparently, the man with the file was the Allucci-Rossi family lawyer. The file he was holding was the marriage agreement Amaya looked passed the door waiting for the so-called husband to walk in, the imminent suspense was driving her crazy but he never came, the documents were pre-signed and all she had to do was sign too. When the documentation was done Amaya was to leave to her new home. She couldn’t believe it this was all happening so fast although she felt slightly insulted because her groom didn’t find it worthy enough to attend his own wedding, proving the rumors right so he was indeed a proud and heartless man, not even considering how she would feel.

In less than an hour she had said her goodbyes, the man who walked in with servants, who was the apparent head of servants informed her to only bring along light and important baggage and added ‘’ My lady this was a direct order from the boss please adhere’’ Amaya now felt aggravated not only was he insulting her he had the audacity to order her around but she obeyed anyways, to her causing a scene now was useless she was already married to him the least she could do was go along peacefully. Outside the mansion there was a black luxurious car waiting and behind were two more grey ones, the gifts brought in by the servants were given to the Romano family. Amaya hugged her brothers one more time, they hadn’t been very close due to their different upbringings but the brother-sister relationship was still present, she was reluctant to hug both her parents but eventually she did and got into the black which was prepared for her she rode with one maid servant a hefty man in front and the driver.

The journey there felt like forever and she eventually fell asleep she felt the car slowly come to a stop making her open her eyes, there was a huge black gate right in front, the driver typed in a code and went through a whole face recognition system before the gates slowly came open revealing what seemed to be like a palace, lots of flowers but one thing she noticed was none of them were of bright colors, there were a fleet of cars all of expensive brands, she knew they were rich but had never seen such a neat collection of cars. She got off the car her heart racing slightly because her husband would be standing right behind those doors.

Amaya had grown up in a mansion but the structure standing before her was so massive, her house looked like a bungalow in comparison making her wonder how many people lived here. Servants gushed out coming to welcome her and carry her baggage which wasn’t much, she walked steadily with each step her heart seemed to race faster, she didn’t understand this new feeling but whatever it was she didn’t like it very much, Amaya stopped right in front of the huge doors, they were opened from the inside, her heart skipped a bit an elderly lady stood on the inside ‘’come in madam’’ she felt a flash of disappointment hit her chest, where was this husband of hers and why didn’t he find it important to show up at their husband or at least be present to welcome her,

‘’Please come in madam’’ the elderly woman said again, only then did she realize she was still standing at the door she took a step in and the smell of Mahogany hit her, the outside looked really good but the interior was a masterpiece, it gave out a dark vibe but Amaya accustomed it to the lack of any bright colors whatsoever, it was almost gloomy but in an exotic way.

She glanced around looking for a subtle sign of her husband but only saw servants, making her wonder where everyone else was ‘’sorry where’s everyone else’’ she asked the elderly woman who introduced herself as Doris ‘’madam only the boss lives here’’ Doris replied keeping her head down, this made Amaya look around in awe ‘’such a big place for the boss alone’’ Amaya said more to herself than to Doris ‘’yes ma’am, please come’’ Doris said leading Amaya up the stairs and after passing what seemed to be like a million doors Doris finally stopped and used a key from the bunch she had seemingly had with her all this time to open the door in front of them. The walls were matte white, the drapes were a mix of white and velvet, the bed looked so white and soft the vanity was set with lighting and what looked like an expensive collection of feminine scents and makeup A creme sofa to the right and a door to left which she guessed would be the bathroom, Doris standing at the door all this time finally spoke up ‘’ I’ll take my leave now madam’’ after a few minutes a young maidservant walked in with Amaya’s baggage. The room was so spacious, it looked like it was designed just for but she didn’t find any of her husband’s belongings.

  • BOUND BY DECEIT    The aftermath

The storm broke again that night.Thunder rolled over the hills like a warning, and the rain came harder than before, washing away every trace of what had happened at the airstrip. But no amount of rain could wash away the image from Amaya’s mind—Nancy collapsing, the sound of the gunshot echoing through the air, Damian’s face right after. He hadn’t said a word since they left Florence. Not when Kelly drove them through the countryside. Not when Amaya pressed a bandage against her arm. Not even when she whispered his name softly, trying to pull him back. The silence between them wasn’t anger—it was heavy, unspoken guilt.Kelly pulled into a secluded motel near Siena, its neon sign flickering weakly in the rain. “This is the safest I could find on short notice,” she said, glancing back at them. “No security cameras, no nosy neighbors, no questions.”Damian nodded absently. “Good.”Amaya looked at Kelly. “You’ll stay, right?”Kelly shook her head. “I’ll circle back to make sure the area

The next morning broke with a quiet unease that neither of them could ignore. The rain had stopped sometime during the night, but the air still felt heavy, the sky a pale gray sheet pressing down on the world. Amaya stood by the kitchen window, coffee in hand, watching droplets roll down the glass. Her reflection looked strange—stronger, older somehow. Maybe that was what love and survival did to a person.Behind her, Damian was already dressed, his dark jacket fitted, his movements deliberate. Every motion of his hands—loading the gun, adjusting the strap of his watch—was calm, precise, controlled. Too controlled.“You didn’t sleep,” Amaya said without turning around. He gave a small grunt. “Neither did you.”She turned, offering a half-smile. “Touché.”He finally looked at her, and for a moment, something soft flickered behind his eyes. “You don’t have to come, Amaya.”She sighed, setting down her mug. “We’re not doing that again, Damian. I’m in this. Until the end.”He walked close

  • BOUND BY DECEIT    The calm before the final storm

The morning after the chaos felt unreal. The sunlight was warm, almost too gentle compared to the night before. For the first time in what felt like forever, Amaya woke up without fear gripping her chest. The safe house was quiet, except for the steady rhythm of her heartbeat and the faint rustle of curtains swaying in the soft breeze.Damian was standing near the window, shirtless, his back to her. His shoulders looked tense, like he was still carrying the weight of everything that had happened. She sat up slowly, watching him, her heart twisting. Even in the light, he looked like a man haunted by shadows.“Couldn’t sleep?” she asked quietly. He didn’t turn around immediately. “Not really,” he said after a pause. “There’s too much on my mind.”She slid out of bed and padded toward him, the wooden floor cool under her bare feet. “You’ve been protecting everyone else,” she said softly. “When’s the last time you let someone protect you?”That made him glance over his shoulder, eyes tire

  • BOUND BY DECEIT    Heart of the storm

The night was restless, heavy with an electric tension that pressed against Amaya’s chest. Even the city seemed to hold its breath, the usual hum of traffic muted under the threat of what they knew was coming. Damian had been silent for most of the evening, his mind clearly racing, plotting their next move against Nancy. Amaya watched him from the dim light of the safe house, noting the furrow of his brows, the tight set of his jaw. She wanted to reach out, to tell him that she was with him no matter what—but the storm outside mirrored the storm in her heart.“Damian,” she whispered, stepping closer to him. “Talk to me. What’s going on in that head of yours?”He didn’t look at her immediately, but when he finally did, his dark eyes softened, betraying the intensity of his concern. “Amaya… tonight isn’t just another operation. Nancy has planned something bigger than we imagined. This is the heart of the storm.”Her stomach clenched at his words. “The heart of the storm?” she repeated,

  • BOUND BY DECEIT    Secrets unveiled

The first rays of dawn spilled through the blinds, casting the safe house in a soft golden glow. Amaya stirred in the bed, the weight of the past few days heavy on her shoulders. Her muscles ached, her mind was clouded, yet beneath it all, a strange sense of satisfaction lingered. They had disrupted Nancy’s operations, survived the confrontation, and grown stronger together—but Amaya knew that the real battle had only just begun.Damian was already awake, moving quietly around the room. He glanced at her occasionally, his dark eyes softened by concern and something else—something deeper, more intimate. There was an unspoken connection between them now, one forged in shared danger and trust.“You’re awake,” he said quietly, approaching the bed. His voice was low, calm, yet edged with that commanding presence that always made her heart skip.“I couldn’t sleep,” Amaya admitted, stretching and rubbing the sleep from her eyes. “Too many thoughts, too many… secrets.”Damian knelt beside her

  • BOUND BY DECEIT    The turning point

The morning sun broke through the curtains, casting a warm golden glow over the safe house. Despite the light, Amaya couldn’t shake the tension from the previous night. Shadows still lingered in her mind—the memory of Nancy’s eyes, the operatives’ aggression, the pulse-pounding adrenaline of the confrontation. She sat at the kitchen counter, sipping tea, trying to calm her racing thoughts. Damian moved around her with quiet efficiency, preparing breakfast, yet his eyes never left her for long. There was a new edge to him, a sharpness born from survival and strategy, but softened by the tenderness he reserved for her.“You’re too quiet this morning,” Damian observed, setting a plate of toast and eggs in front of her.Amaya forced a smile. “Just thinking,” she replied, her voice steady but her mind still replaying every moment from the previous night.Damian sat across from her, studying her. “Thinking is fine,” he said softly, “but overthinking is dangerous. You need to focus on what w
