Relief flooded over my whole body. His interruption to our discussion was welcomed by me.

Geraldine blinked, her mouth parting slightly. “I was just getting to know her better.”

He looked at me, he could sense something was awry, then back at his mother. “You’ve both had more than enough time together.” He paused, before he added. “You don't plan on stealing my wife away from me now, do you?”

“I wish,” she answered flatly. “Since you're here, I'll leave you two together.”

Ivan stopped her before she could take two steps, “Mum, I'd like for us to talk briefly about something important.”

“Important?” she echoed his words, her eyes searching his face. “I’m all ears.”

“Just a minute while I see my wife to the hallway.” He turned his face to me, his hand pulling me even more closer to him. “Shall we?”
