“So she knows it's a boy?” Reagan asked as he sipped on the over-sweetened mojito that went straight to his brain. He winced as he placed the blue food-dyed drink down.

Joanne nodded, though all she really wanted was to overturn the mojito on his head.

She did not like him here. She did not like that he was sitting, absolutely relaxed, on the lawn chair with his arm draped lazily over her chair while all she wanted to do was eat her nails while she wondered whether the doctors had missed out on some major brain bleed when Reagan got his nose broken.

“Yes, yes, the gender reveal was three months ago, Mr. Knight!”

Joanne rolled her eyes. It did not help that one of Talia's friends thought the sun shone out of Reagan's ass and tried to start conversations with him.

For Christ's sake, he was not a celebrity. He was just a less-than-human piece of crap!

Reagan gave her a polite nod but did not entertain further interaction. He turned back to his wife. “So why a separate baby shower?”

Joanne sighed. But she decided that it was better to just entertain this headache than have the other headache butt in on the conversation again. “Because Talia's in-laws are here from India and wanted to have a traditional baby shower.”

Reagan looked around. “Do you see anything traditional about this setup?”

She rolled her eyes. “The traditional stuff is over. This is like a reception.”

Reagan snorted. “The baby isn't even born but-”

“He is already so loved.” Joanne cut him off, giving him a blank stare.

Reagan's jaw clenched. “Our child is also loved.”

Our?

Our?

Joanne didn't know whether to laugh or slap him. “Yes, my child is very much loved.” She patted her belly, flashes of the blood and pain and pure agony of losing her invading her senses immediately.

Her heart thundered in her chest. And she found herself jumping to her feet. “I need to use the washroom.”

Reagan was about to get up when she shot him down with a look before hurrying away.

“My name is Adeline, by the way.” The other woman chirped as soon as Joanne was gone. “I am a friend of Talia's.”

"I'm aware," Regan nodded, trying to keep his voice as polite as possible. He didn’t want to snap at a guest at his wife’s friend’s baby shower. But the woman was getting on his nerves at this point, because now that Joanne was not at the scene, she thought it was absolutely necessary to keep him entertained with her boring insights on baby showers and what all they could have done better to make this function much more interesting.

Regan kept looking over at the signs that led to the washroom. Joanne wasn’t coming back, was she? She had been gone for over twenty minutes, and the woman didn't even call to inform him that she was caught up with something else.

Suddenly, a dread of some sort engulfed him, and he rose to his feet.

"Mr. Knight, where are you going?" Adeline asked, trying to follow him like a lost puppy. He ignored her and speed-walked to the washroom doors.

He reached the place to find that it was empty - Joanne was nowhere to be found.

Regan cursed as he pulled out his phone from his suit pocket and dialed her number.

He waited and waited until the call went to voicemail, and then he tried again and again and again, but she was not picking up.

The hand on his arm had him whipping around in relief, which only lasted a moment - only to be replaced with confusion and horror.

“Hey there, stranger.”

.

.

.

Joanne hated herself for leaving the event because of Reagan.

He did not deserve that much importance in her life.

Nor did Talia deserve to have her leave without a proper goodbye.

But she had to leave. Especially now that she knew that all of it was going to happen again.

Serena Cole.

The love of Reagan Knight’s life.

Joanne had spotted her at the party.

Flashbacks of her similar appearance in the past made its way back into her memory.

Joanne cringed at how oblivious and unassuming she had been, fan-girling over the very woman who would end her and her unborn child’s life-

She stopped her train of thoughts right there.

No.

She had no one to blame but Reagan Knight for what had happened.

To get a third party involved was plain stupid, pathetic and unnecessary.

Her phone started ringing again.

When Reagan’s phone calls stopped coming, she had assumed that he had reunited with the love of his life. So why the hell was he calling again?

She contemplated for a moment too long.

“Lady, should you not be taking that call?” The cab driver asked her.

“Some phone calls are better left unanswered.” She replied.

The driver snorted, shaking her head. “Trust me hon, if there is one thing that the forty-three years of my life has taught me, it is that it is better to communicate than to assume.”

Joanne returned the smile of the woman who believed that she had given her a really good piece of advice. And Joanne also believed that it was a pretty solid point if it wasn’t for her.

As for Joanne, she knew what was coming. She knew what would happen.

She knew that if she did not leave, she would end up dead.

And Joanne did not think that she was given a second chance at living these six months again only to end up dead.

This was her chance.

Let Reagan Knight have the love of his life. She did not care anymore. She did not love him anymore.

She might have come back to life in the past, but her heart was long dead and cold. If a single muscle in it still managed to beat, it only had love for her child.

Let Reagan have his love. Joanne was going to have hers. And they were going to live far away from him.

____ . . . Joanne stared at the ceiling. It was a bright sunny day and she felt miserable. She had spent the night with a churning stomach and emptied the contents of her food truck forage in the middle of the night. And she knew that Reagan was not home. "What is wrong with you?" She whined into a pillow. "You know he does not care. And more importantly, you should not care about him." She blamed the hormones for the way she felt. But she would be damned if she acted on her bizarre feelings. She let out a loud sigh of resignation. "Hungry, babe?" She patted her flat tummy. "Wanna eat some banana pancakes?" Joanne slowly got off the bed, aware of the queasy feeling in her stomach and the light-headedness. She did her morning ablutions and stepped out into the hallway. The smell of pancakes and sound of the juicer attacked her senses. Joanne had not slept well last night, or so she had thought. She had heard Reagan leave but had not been aware of his return. Dread fi

His hand was halfway into his coat pocket when it stopped. He retrieved his hand a bit before whipping around to locate Joanne, pulling his phone out.The missed call was from her. But Joanne was seated where he had left her, tapping at her phone, looking relaxed.Maybe she had dialled his number by mistake. He scowled at the smile on her face. He hated to think that she was texting Elliot even though he had become completely sure that there was nothing going on between the two of them.He hurried to place his order and kept looking over his shoulder. She was there, typing away. He grabbed the food tray and stomped over, feeling grumpy when he had no reason to be.He was mentally scolding himself to act out in front of his pregnant wife. “Tada. You want something else?” He surprised himself with his cheeriness. “I do.” Joanne dragged the tray to her side. “But after I am done with this.” She was very

He had tried to sneak in some healthy options, scrunching his nose at all the empty carbs and sugars that his wife was stacking their cart with. “I don't care.” Joanne was not having it. “Just looking at it makes me feel yuck.” “It's healthy.” He was about to put it back in the cart but her death glare made him pause.“I will eat it in my study.” He tried to bargain, lowering his voice when he saw two women staring at them amused. “You won't ever see it ever again.”“Remind me never to come shopping with you. You are trying to torture my gut.” Reagan gave up. He knew that he was not wrong. That she was being moody and unreasonable for no reason. But he also knew that no reason was no reason enough since it was their child in her womb making her act out.And he, despite all the shit he had said and done in their marriage, respected and adored her for it. “I need to eat more fibre.” Joanne was che

____...“Why did you meet her?” Reagan asked Patrick as he paced his office. “I am sorry, but I am not about to disclose another client’s information to you.” Patrick smiled, pleased with himself, as he twiddled his thumbs. “For all I know, she could be planning something against you.” Reagan turned to glare at him. “That I don’t care, McAdams. As long as she is safe, she can plot whatever she wants against me.” Patrick raised a brow. “I am sorry. Mr. Knight? Are you really going to play the good husband card with me? Seriously? Did you hit your head? Do you have amnesia? Did you forget that I have been working for you for almost a decade now?” Reagan turned around to glare at him. “McAdams, I am serious. Is there any danger to my wife? What is she after? As you said, I am your first and oldest client; you should have some loyalty towards me.” “Send me two hundred grand, and I will tell you.” Patrick smiled like a cat who got the cream. “You know only money can buy my loyalty.

You are too old for this cringe shit.” Elliot mimicked, even doing the face rub. “Eli!” She really was going to throw something at his head. “Okay, fine.” He rolled his eyes. “You are such a killjoy, babe.” Joanne tapped on the table, waiting for the noodles. “I hope I don’t puke.” She murmured. She remembered how she had shot Reagan down when he had offered to go to that French restaurant. And how she had complained about constant outside food damaging her body. Yet, here she was. She pacified her guilt with the fact that she was here on business. “Where is that asshole?” Elliot looked around. “Pretty sure the bitch is doing something illegal.” Joanne raised a brow. “I thought he worked at the precinct.” “He does,” Elliot shook his head. “But he also works as a private investigator. She felt so well-rested, and she felt like the extremely comfortable bed in the master bedroom was kneading the tight knots off her lower back. She moaned in contentment as the beautiful pressure continued to alleviate whatever discomfort she had been feeling from sitting and watching her best friend drink away last night. As she came to, she realized that this could not be from the bed, and she was finally aware of the huge, hard hand that was massaging her tissue reverently and the huge heated body pressed against her smaller frame. She gasped as she opened her eyes, and her breath hitched in her throat at the sight of those beautiful grey orbs in front of her.“Reagan.”Her voice was thick with sleep, breezy, and his body reacted immediately to the very sensuality of it.“Good morning, gorgeous.”His voice was huskier, and it did things to her that nothing ever could.
