Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
Timothy seemed to look more gleeful when he saw how quiet I was. "I told you that Avery would never abandon me. You may love me, Amelia, but that doesn't mean you can use these dirty tricks to separate Avery and me!"

I smiled bitterly. The years of love and devotion between Timothy and me crumbled into nothing the moment Avery made that statement. I then said, "If you believe that Avery didn't leave you at the altar, then why don't you open up her backpack and see what's inside?"

Avery's expression instantly fell. She hurriedly said, "I'm loyal to Timothy and Timothy only. I don't need to do these pointless things to prove myself!"

I sneered, gazing into Avery's eyes. "In that case, then you wouldn't mind if everyone sees what you have in your bag, would you?"

Timothy glared at me. "Stop trying to separate Avery and me, Amelia. I'm not going to believe in your lies!"

Just then, an onlooker nudged Avery's backpack. It fell to the ground, revealing her clothes and some food she'd packed.

The wedding guests gasped in shock. Avery had clearly packed all her belongings into the backpack.

"She's packed everything from food to clothing. Was she really going to leave her fiance at the altar?"

"Hey, I'd leave the Lane kid, too, if I were her. I heard that he's impotent."

"This Avery lady is quite heartless, huh? Why couldn't she just be upfront about not marrying her fiance? This is so embarrassing for everyone!"

Avery anxiously crouched to hide all the things she'd packed, worried that the guests would see. "Don't you all know it's illegal to look through other people's personal belongings?"

Timothy's expression changed when he saw the scattered items on the floor and heard the gossip from the guests.

"Explain yourself, Avery!" he said, his voice shaking.

Avery grew pale as she stammered out, "I h-have no idea how a-any one of these things got here. You have to believe me, T-Timothy. I do love you! Amelia must've purposely packed these things into my backpack! She's jealous that you love me and is trying to plot against me!

"Think about it, Timothy. How could I have packed all these things just to hike up a mountain and gather some berries? That bitch Amelia must have snuck them in here!"

I knew that Avery would say that, so I went into our house and took out a note that Avery had left. She had written down her feelings about not wanting to marry an impotent man, and so she chose to abandon him.

I thought that Timothy would believe me this time. But he ended up tearing the note up before even reading it. "That's enough, Amelia. I know you are deeply in love with me, but I cannot let myself fall into your trap in both my lives!"

Avery held Dad's and Mom's hands and whispered something to them, which caused them to smile brighter.

I was about to say something when Dad slapped me across the cheek. "First, you throw tantrums at home over wanting to marry Timothy, then you set Avery up? You're going to stay in the basement to repent for your mistakes!"

Mom came over and pinched my ear. "You've ruined our family's reputation, you little brat!"

Avery held onto Dad's hand and cooed, "Not only do we need to lock Amelia up in the basement, we also have to starve her. We have to show her that stealing someone else's fiance is a terrible thing to do!"

I knew that there was nothing I could say to save myself now that they'd come to this conclusion.

Timothy then dragged me into the basement. I quickly bit him hard on the hand.

He hissed painfully and let go. He then glared at me and barked, "Have you gone rabid?"

I ignored him and ran over to Avery.

"If you lock me in the basement, I'll reveal your secret to everyone!" I whispered in her ear.

On the day I went back to the village to settle my migration documents, I spotted Avery and Timothy fighting near the village entrance. A crowd of onlookers had even surrounded them.Avery's hair was a mess as she glared at Timothy. "I'm going to divorce you, you impotent, penniless man! Why would I stay with you now that you have nothing else to offer anymore? I was so blind to marry a man like you! Not even swine would've chosen you!"Timothy ran over and angrily wrapped a hand around Avery's neck. "I'm impotent, am I? Who is the father of the baby in your belly then? You've been sleeping around with other men even before we married, haven't you? I feel sick even looking at you. Have you no shame at all?"Seeing how things had turned out, Avery no longer bothered to hide her true intentions. "I never wanted to marry you. You were the one who clung onto me like a starfish! You're the shameless one here! You should be proud that I thought highly enough of you to be with you, you bas

"How can that be? This is my wife. She saved you before!" Timothy said, gesturing at me.He was slapped in the face the moment he said that. Avery appeared beside him, her face flushed from anger. "Who did you say was your wife?" she hissed.Timothy immediately shoved Avery away. "Get the hell away from me, you good-for-nothing brat! I'm busy!"Avery didn't back down whatsoever. She pinched Timothy's ear hard. "Tell me right now—who did you say was your wife, huh?"Timothy hissed in pain and whispered in Avery's ear, "This is the man who's going to help us get rich, so you had better behave!"It was clear that there'd been a strain on Avery and Timothy's relationship after what happened at the hospital. They were no longer sweet and loving with one another. In fact, they seemed more inclined to tear at one another's throats.Timothy returned to his senses and reached out to wrap a hand around my waist. "This is my wife. Right, Amelia?"I stepped away from Timothy, feeling disgus

I could still hear Avery and Timothy arguing even after walking a distance away."What else could I possibly expect from you now that you can't even cure your illness?" Avery cried.Timothy retorted by saying, "Didn't you say you loved me? Are you going to abandon me now that this has happened? So what if I'm impotent? If I were rich, people would be scrabbling for my favor—even the people who look down on me! "So if you're one of those people, you can get the hell out right now! I will never let those who abandoned me at my lowest stick around when I am at my highest!"Avery immediately softened her tone. "I was just worried about you, sweetheart. I even cried earlier because of it. Please don't be angry anymore, hm?""I know. I only said those things because I was angry. Don't be upset now," Timothy replied. "I'll buy you all the nice things in the world once I'm rich, okay?"I was disgusted by the two's sudden, sickly-sweet rekindling and hurried away.I had gotten word abou

The doctor sighed and explained, "You're correct. Mr. Lane's private parts have been entirely necrotized. Normal function will no longer be possible.""No! This is impossible!" Timothy yelled in despair. "That geezer told me that taking those drugs would treat my impotence! I even felt a difference after taking it for the past few days. How could it have suddenly necrotized? Are you sure you didn't make an error in your observation, doctor? Please check again! There must still be hope!"Avery was also panicking as she grabbed the doctor's hand. "Yes, doctor. I'm the patient's wife, so no one knows better than I do whether or not my husband has recovered! Can you please check again?"The doctor shrugged her hand off and said sullenly, "That 'geezer' you mentioned is a liar, Mr. Lane. He's already tricked many of our patients here. You two really need to be more careful.""This is impossible. That geezer was the one who cured my impotence in my previous life. Why didn't it work this

I moved out of the house and went to live by the farmer's market in town. The folk there gossiped less, and I had better privacy. I happened to see Avery and Timothy when I left the house that day.I had wanted to avoid them, but they blocked my way. Timothy grinned at me, saying, "Didn't you look down on me because of my impotence? I've recovered now, but you will never ever be able to marry me in this lifetime. I only love Avery, after all. Women like you don't deserve me!"Avery blushed as she lightly smacked Timothy's chest. "Hush, don't talk about these things in public! What will we do if my sister gets jealous and tries to steal you away from me again? Oh, I nearly forgot. Amelia's no longer my sister at this point."I ignored the couple, though I did find Timothy's recovery strange. He couldn't have recovered that fast. After all, I'd been the one who had gotten him his cure in our previous life. He couldn't have figured it out on his own!I couldn't help but say, "Don't

I had secretly followed her out of the house one night out of concern for her safety.Who knew that Avery had actually been going out and sleeping with random men at night, even going so far as to follow them home? The noises she would make in there lasted throughout the night. They only stopped at 4:00 am.If I revealed this secret to everyone, Avery's reputation in Greenwood Vale would be ruined.Avery was still hesitating as to what to do next.
