Olivia's POV

“Did that golden boy try to harm you?”

I shook my head slowly, trying to be honest. “I don't think it was Nathan. Honestly, I think he would be just as confused as we are. If Liam thought it was him, Nathan would probably be in a body bag by now. We... we just happened to meet at the event. Liam saw me, and everything went to hell.”

“What!” she gasped, throwing her hands up. “Fvck no. How? This is crazy, Liv. You’re in the middle of a war zone.”

We talked for what felt like hours as the SUV wound its way through the backroads of our youth. We headed toward the Willow Creek marina, a place that used to be our sanctuary during the long, humid summers of our teenage years. It was one of the few peaceful places where we could hang out, hide from our parents, and sneak in cheap booze while talking about our dreams of escaping this town.

“Shiiit,” Avery dragged the word out as we approached the docks, staring out the window at the familiar sight of the water. “Don't think g

  • Bad Contract with the Billionaire Devil   Camping In The Woods

Olivia's POVThe air in the woods was biting, a cold that seemed to seep through the layers of my coat and settle deep within my bones. We had stepped out of the back of the cabin to gather some dry wood, our boots crunching against the frozen earth and patches of stubborn, icy snow. The pine trees loomed over us, their needles shivering in the occasional gust of wind.Avery was trying so hard to be the version of herself I needed; the fearless, loud-mouthed best friend who could punch the world in the face for me. But I saw the way her hands trembled as she bent down to pick up a fallen branch. I saw the way her eyes kept darting back toward the cabin, then toward the perimeter where she knew Zach and James were hovering in the shadows. The fear of me nearly dying; of me actually being erased from her life, was a ghost walking right beside her.“Look at this one, Liv,” she said, holding up a thick piece of cedar. Her voice was a little too high, a little too bright. “This will burn f

  • Bad Contract with the Billionaire Devil   This place isn't safe for you

Olivia's POVAvery shook her head, glancing over her shoulder at the reporters who were still mourning their broken cameras from a safe distance. “I have no idea how it leaked, but it’s everywhere, Liv. They’re calling you the 'Billionaire's Secret' and the ‘Vaughn Vulture.' Let's just get the hell out of here for now. This place isn't safe for you. My apartment is crawling with them.”“Please get in,” Zach said. His hand was already holding the door open. His eyes were constantly scanning the rooftops and the street corners.I wanted to say something; to tell her I was sorry for bringing this to her doorstep, but Avery took my hand and pulled me toward the car.“Come on, Liv. Don't think, just get in. We need to talk where no one can hear us.”Avery slid into the plush leather interior, and I followed, letting out a long, ragged sigh as the door shut out the noise of the world. Zach moved to the passenger seat while James took the wheel. As the engine roared to life, a few remaining

  • Bad Contract with the Billionaire Devil   The Leaked Secret

Olivia's POV “Olivia? Is that really you?”I turned toward the voice. It was Mr. Henderson, the retired mailman who lived in the basement unit. He was wearing his usual greasy plaid flannel shirt and a worn-out beanie, his eyes wide with a mixture of shock and something that looked uncomfortably like judgment.“Hi, Mr. Henderson,” I said, offering a small, tight wave. I didn't look at him for more than a second, keeping my head down as I moved toward the entrance. But the word had spread faster than a wildfire. More people began to emerge from the shadows of the doorways, drifting toward me before I could even reach the stairs. I stared at the cracks in the pavement, walking faster, my breath coming in short, panicked bursts.“Where the hell have you been, Olivia? We saw the news!” a woman from the third floor shouted.“Do your parents know you're back? They haven't been able to show their faces at church!” another voice piped up.“Did you really do what they said you did on the inte

  • Bad Contract with the Billionaire Devil   You can’t keep me here!

Olivia's POV“You're going nowhere, Olivia. Get back in that room and get out of those clothes. You’re still recovering. You’re weak,” he barked at my back.I froze, my hand hovering near the elevator call button. I slowly turned to face him. The look in his eyes was fierce, a storm of territorial rage.“You can’t keep me here, Liam! I’m not your prisoner! I am a grown woman, and I have every right to leave this golden cage whenever I want!”I spun around and stormed toward the elevator, my heart pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears. I was terrified he would grab me, throw me over his shoulder, and lock me in a room. But to my utter surprise, he didn't move. He just stood there, watching me with a dark expression. The elevator doors slid open, and I stepped inside, the silence echoing as the doors shut. I leaned against the mirrored wall, breathing out a sigh of relief. I needed Avery. I needed a touch that didn't come with strings attached.Once the elevator hit the ground flo

  • Bad Contract with the Billionaire Devil   You're Going Nowhere

Olivia's POVThe dining area of Liam’s penthouse was a masterpiece of cold, minimalist architecture; all polished marble, sharp angles, and glass that seemed to touch the clouds. A few hours after that confusing, feverish bath, we sat across from each other. We were both shrouded in thick, plush white robes provided by the house, the heavy fabric doing little to settle the trembling in my bones.Different kinds of breakfast platters were laid out across the long table: shirred eggs, smoked salmon, silver dollar pancakes, and bowls of vibrant berries. They smelled amazing, the aroma of fresh coffee and expensive butter swirling through the air. But unfortunately, I couldn't bring myself to care about any of it. My stomach was a tight, painful knot.I just sat there, staring at the steam rising from my cup, and sighed heavily. My mind was completely gone, stuck on a loop of that dark ballroom and the moment my body had betrayed me.“Eat, Olivia. Enough with the sighing. It’s not going t
