The words on the screen burned into her mind, every letter carved with menace.

She looks good in your shirt. Wonder what she looks like without it.

Sienna’s skin crawled. Her arms wrapped around herself instinctively, like she could shield her body from eyes that felt too close, too hungry.

“They can see me,” she whispered, voice trembling. “Right now.”

Jax’s hand closed over the phone, his thumb smashing the screen dark. His jaw flexed like granite. “No, they can’t. Not anymore.”

“How can you say that?” Her voice cracked sharp, too loud in the small cabin. “They know what I’m wearing, Jax. They’re—God—they’re looking at me, like I’m a—” Her throat closed. “Like I’m prey.”

Jax was already moving, striding across the room with lethal purpose. He yanked the curtains down entirely, ripping them from the rods. He dragged a heavy dresser in front of the window and shoved the table against the door. His movements were fast, controlled, and frightening in their efficiency.

Sienna sat frozen

  • Bad Medicine   Chapter 20 – The Invitation

Sienna sat on the edge of her bed, her hospital badge lying useless on the nightstand. She’d worn that ID every day for years, swiping it into operating theaters, flashing it at security checkpoints, clipping it proudly to her white coat. Now it felt like nothing more than plastic and lies. The email still burned in her mind: Mandatory Leave of Absence. Harper hadn’t wasted a second. One stroke of his keyboard and her entire career had been reduced to suspicion and stigma.Beside the humiliation was that other message. Anonymous. A single line:If you want the truth about Harper, meet me tomorrow night. Alone.“You’re not going.”Jax’s voice cut through the thick silence of her apartment. He leaned against the wall, arms folded, leather cut draped over his broad shoulders like armor. His eyes were hard, unyielding. She glanced at him. “I have to.”“The hell you do.” He pushed off the wall, crossing the room in two strides. “That’s bait. Clear as day. They’re dangling Harper’s name bec

The words on Jax’s phone felt like ice searing Sienna’s skin.Harper knows you were in the morgue. He’s already making his move. She blinked at the screen, the letters swimming. “That’s impossible. He just left. He—he didn’t—”Jax’s hand closed over hers, grounding her. “Doc. Wake up. He’s already ten steps ahead. That’s how people like him stay on top.”Her throat tightened. “If he knows I was there, if he suspects me, my whole career—”“Your career?” Jax cut in, sharp, almost cruel. “He’s not worried about your white coat, Sienna. He’s worried about control. And you? You just became a liability.”Her lungs squeezed tight. For years she’d fought to build this life—long shifts, endless exams, swallowed tears in bathrooms after brutal surgeries. She’d earned every letter after her name. And now, in a matter of nights, all of it teetered on the edge. She shook her head. “No. I can’t just run. If I leave now, he wins. He ruins me. Everything I’ve worked for—”Jax’s voice dropped, dangero

The morgue felt colder after Harper left. Not the kind of cold that seeped from refrigeration units, but the kind that wormed under skin, burrowed into bone.Sienna stared at the photo glowing on Jax’s phone screen. Harper’s face clear as daylight, caught mid-handshake with a man wearing the rival MC’s patch. Her pulse stumbled.“No,” she whispered, shaking her head as if denial could make the pixels rearrange themselves into something innocent. “That could mean anything. A coincidence. Maybe he didn’t know who that man was.”Jax’s mouth tugged into a humorless curve. “Doc, people like Harper don’t shake hands by accident.”She dragged her gaze from the screen to his. Jax’s eyes were sharp, hard, reflecting none of her fragile hope.“He’s my chief of surgery,” she said weakly. “He’s saved lives, mentored—”“And now he’s selling them out,” Jax cut in, voice low but ruthless. “Happens every damn day. Clean suits, dirty hands.”The bluntness stung. But somewhere deep inside, she knew he

The morgue light hummed overhead, its sterile glow pooling across cold tile.Sienna’s throat locked tight.Dr. Harper stood in the doorway, crisp lab coat over his tailored suit, tie knotted like he was heading into a board meeting instead of stepping into the belly of the hospital’s cold room at midnight. His brow furrowed when his eyes landed on her. “Dr. Blake? What are you doing down here?”Her heart hammered so loudly she was sure he could hear it echoing off the walls.Behind her, Jax shifted, the movement quiet but predatory.Sienna forced a swallow, her voice coming out thin. “I—I couldn’t sleep. I thought I heard… something.”Lame. So painfully lame. But Harper just tilted his head, gaze sharp. “You thought you heard something—in the morgue?”Her skin prickled. She needed to redirect him away from Jax, who lingered in the shadows like a wolf watching a lamb.“Sometimes… sometimes the refrigeration units make noises. I was checking the logs.” She gestured vaguely toward the de

The words stared back from the phone screen, sharp as broken glass.Check the morgue.Sienna’s mouth went dry. The morgue. Her stomach twisted just thinking about it—the icy chill, the stainless-steel drawers, the lingering scent of antiseptic overlaid with something heavier, final. She swallowed hard. “Why the morgue?”Jax’s jaw worked as he stared at the message, thumb tightening around his phone. “Because they want to scare you.”Her pulse kicked. “It’s already working.”He looked up, meeting her gaze, and for a moment she saw not just the hard biker, but the soldier beneath—the one who’d seen messages like this before, taunts sent by enemies who knew the value of psychological warfare.“Or,” he said slowly, “they’ve left us something to find.”The thought chilled her worse than the idea of a body drawer sliding open. She forced a shaky laugh. “You sound like you want to walk into a horror movie.”His mouth curved humorlessly. “Better to walk in armed than sit back and let the mons

  • Bad Medicine   Chapter 15 – White Walls, Dark Shadows

The photo burned into her eyes long after Jax’s phone went dark. The wide steps. The gleaming glass entrance. The place she had stitched lives back together, where she thought white coats meant safety. Now it looked like a crime scene waiting to happen.Sienna’s fingers trembled against her thighs. “That was taken today.”“Yeah.” Jax slipped the phone back into his pocket, voice low, dangerous. “Whoever’s pulling the strings wants you to know nowhere is safe. Not your home. Not your job. Not even the damn ER.”Her stomach twisted. She could almost hear the intercom calling Code Blue, smell antiseptic in the halls, see her patients’ faces. “If they’ve touched my hospital…” She pressed her hands into her eyes, willing herself not to break. “I can’t—Jax, I can’t lose that too.”A beat of silence. Then leather creaked as his arms pulled her against him. His chest was solid, heartbeat steady despite the storm swirling around them.“You won’t,” he said simply. She wanted to believe him. But
