Yvette's POV
“The client is waiting, Yvette. Don't fucking mess this up!” My boss hissed into the phone. “I'm almost there, sir,” I breathed, running as fast as my legs could carry. For the past five years after a fatal accident from which I lost my father and had my membership as a gymnast terminated because of broken bones, I'd had to do everything to survive while schooling. However, when I thought heaven would somehow smile on me and all my efforts, my mum discovered she had cancer. Since the last two years, life has proven that a nine to ten has nothing to offer. So I dropped out from school and used the day to work different shifts as a bartender, cleaner, retailer and child caregiver. At night, I stripped. The only ones who could guarantee I get money huge enough for my mum's surgery, got wasted here. They're cruel for overlooking youths desperate to work decently whereas they'd spend freely on a whore. Don't get me wrong though. I didn't fuck them. I just strip for them. However, while I dragged my tired body from all the shifts I did today, I couldn't help but consider what I could benefit from tonight. It was that thought that had me gathering my strength and running through the puddle until I arrived at the club. I had only made it halfway when I saw other girls around my age who did the things I did glare at me. “Oh my goodness, Yvette!” My boss whined. “You're soaking wet. Fucking soaking wet when you should be on that pole. Do you have any idea how tonight's offer could change both our lives? Isn't your mum on the verge of death or does your fried brain think I'd even lend you enough to get her surgery done?!” “I'll change right now,” I lowered my gaze then walked past him. His words, as harsh as they were, confirmed my previous instinct. I smiled genuinely for the first time in a long time. A new thought had me frowning again as I looked at my reflection in the mirror. I unconsciously began to pick the stitches of the hem of my shirt until my hands started vibrating. These cruel men never really offered help to anyone, not even people like me. Therefore, what could possibly be tied to my performance tonight— “Yvette!!!!” I jumped. “You have 20 seconds to walk out of there or else I'll make sure you go up there naked!” I sighed, quickly removed my clothes and picked the new lingerie set he left behind. That was just how he worked—he decided what we wore and didn't wear. My hair was still damp, so was my skin. Still, I made a dash towards the door. If he was right and the offer tonight would save my mum, then I was ready and I was going to use all my imperfections tonight as a weapon. That included my messy wet hair and dripping skin. I left. At first, my boss eyed me from head to toe and I could swear, he was irritated by the mere sight of me. “I don't know what anyone would see in you to make such an offer. But listen and listen carefully, Yvette. You won't just be entertaining these losers tonight. You'd be performing for my most valuable client and you must deliver a flawless performance,” his tone was serious and his eyes wide and boring into mine. “You have nothing to worry about, boss,” I smirked. A little disappointed that all he cared about was his benefit. “You have no idea what this offer could do for me as well…” I left him mid sentence, buttoned his shirt slowly and walked out on him to the stage. The light suddenly went out, I used the time to anchor myself. ‘…I wasn't just entertaining these fools, I was performing.’ That was all I needed to stimulate the best in me. Merging my flexibility from being a gymnast with charm and seduction, I moved around the pole like it was mine. The light came on again, but this time it was directed on me. I looked around for who my target audience was… the devil who was saving me from hell… the cruel man who could be my undoing. As the music came on, I gripped the pole, slowly shifting my weight so I could perform a split directly against the pole. The crowd cheered, most perverts only gazing between my legs. Focus. While pulling those stunts, I caught the attention of the audience, keeping them going and still searching until. Grey eyes. His laser sharp gaze was fixed on me, so much that I could feel the heat of his stare. His tightened and defined jaw and the way his arms folded in front of his chest… those things looked like my undoing, and for a second, I almost ran from it. ‘...Isn't your mum on the verge of death?’ ‘Miss Yvette, you have just ten days to prepare for the surgery…’ I shut my eyes, breathing heavily, then pushed those voices to the back of my head. “I have to do this,” I whispered to myself. “I have to save her.” So without thinking, I let hell break loose, moving around the pole like some goddess with no bones to break. I felt every stare from him burn my skin, so I made sure I performed enough to burn his gaze. Smirking. I ran my fingers through my hair then pushed it to the side to expose my neck. I let my fingers travel from my temple all the way to my lips, my collar bone, then cleavage. His eyes were locked to mine. Perfect. I stroked the zip in front of the lingerie before slowly zipping it down. I wasn't sure what I wanted to get out of him, or prove, by doing so, but the moment he shifted, I knew it. He had proven to be ice and I was going to prove it to him that ice breaks the hardest. I kept going slowly, teasing, until he gulped and looked away. “What the fuck, Yvette?!” My boss almost yelled at me from behind the stage. “Get out of there. Now!” I did, leaving the crowd in suspense. I couldn't help but smile sheepishly when I met him. “What was that for? Do you even know what you just got yourself into? Because I can assure you that if things go south tonight, you're fire—” “Mr Eric,” a deep masculine voice chimed in from behind. The man in black suit and a very mean demeanour walked in, file in his hand. My heart skipped a beat when I noticed he was different from the grey-eyed man. Had I done all that for the wrong person? My cheeks burned. “The boss requires the lady to sign them, now. He'll meet with you at the exit.” He handed the file to my boss, who gave it to me urging me to sign. I sighed in relief. This man was just his minion. Still, had I performed for the right man? I froze as my eyes met a few sentences in the conditions. ‘Henceforth, YOU are MINE.’ ‘LOVE is FORBIDDEN.’ ‘PREGNANCY is an ABOMINATION.’ My heart stopped as I read them. ‘You are to perform three rounds of tests, only after you've passed the test will you be eligible for the benefits below:’ Money. More money. Much money. My hands shook at all the conditions and I could feel my boss's impatience overflow. “Sign the damn papers,” he hissed. ‘I, Yvette Morgan, give up my mind, soul and body to be used by you, Knox Luther, as you entirely desire.’ I snapped the file shut and staggered backwards. “Are you stupid, Yvette?!” He growled while the man in black suit simply watched. “Get the fucking amount and save your mother. You've always despised your job, right? This right here,” he snatched the file from my hand, opening the last page where I had to fill in my name and sign. “This is a bargain for your freedom. Sign it right now and leave as you've always wanted.” I swallowed hard, weighing all the options over and over again. Nothing could outweigh my love for my mother. Nothing could outweigh my sacrifices for her even if it meant myself. I took the pen from his hands, and filled in my name. Tears fell from my eyes as I moved to sign my signature, but my boss pulled the document quickly so it wouldn't get ruined. I sniffled. Then with a vibrating hand, I endorsed my signature, officially selling myself to this man. Whoever he was.”Yvette's POVThings eased up a bit on hearing what the whole change was actually about. Still, I couldn't quiet the fear that crept in every now and then. More like I didn't know what to do with it.I had called Dave to pick me up before the three hours I had to stay in my office and somehow, his presence made me feel more uneasy."Are you going to stop being creepy already? I'm going through a lot mentally and I don't need more of Knox," I complained, watching him from the rear-view mirror.I heard him chuckle slightly before meeting my gaze."Sure.""Better. Now, focus on the drive."He reluctantly returned his gaze to the road, setting me free from the second most intense gaze I had had to endure until now. When we arrived at the garage, he stole a quick glance at me before looking away."Hey!""What's the matter?""Why do you keep staring at me?" I tried to articulate my discomfort in a less cringey way, but it failed. He grimaced anyway. "I catch you almost all the time so don't
Yvette's POVA few days had passed with me being an official member of the board and no, Yolanda made everything so easy. The press didn't show up so I guessed the idea for a press conference had been cancelled or better still shifted. Also, as everyone else including Knox had said, I didn't have to be always present. Regardless, I couldn't completely keep my distance. Clara worked while I was busy with a few proposals and it was the first time she had shown excitement over something."Did something happen?""Yes, ma'am. You've been offered an executive position in The House of Luther."I blinked. How?When did I even join the company? Was it me or had she gotten something wrong?"Let me see," I ordered while she moved to my side to show me the letter on her tablet. She didn't lie.…But how?"Please let me know your thoughts on it and I'll write back to the company immediately. Meanwhile, congratulations on your first big leap!"The way she said it made it look like an impossible tas
Yvette's POVI dozed off even before I could begin to process what had happened. For the first time, I grieved the gap in my memory severely because from everything I could remember, there was nothing for him to be sorry about, yet if I had heard correctly, he had apologised.Mira was cleaning by the time I woke up and unlike the few days that had passed, she smiled at me the moment she noticed that I was awake."Good morning, Miss Yvette.""Good morning, Mira," I yawned, sitting up on my bed.I blinked a few times while making sure there was nothing missing in my memory from last night."Is something wrong?"I gazed towards the window, letting my face absorb the rays while Mira walked closer to me."Everything is fine," I assured her. "Apart from not being able to recall a crucial moment of my life, I have a very important event coming up tomorrow and I want to be ready for it.""What is that?""Knox will let you know himself."She scoffed in response then returned to the vanity she
Yvette's POVAfter deciding that Mira would look out for me, she did until it was dark. We were so close to giving up after my dinner, but she came back shortly after leaving with the tray of food in her hands."Did something happen?""No," she shook her head, looking more eager than scared.I jumped from my bed in response, running towards the window for a clue."It's nothing to get worked up over. Knox is back… I just think he is a little pissed though.""Did something happen?""I honestly don't know. Just be careful if you insist on going to see him tonight, or better still, you can go tomorrow when he is calm and will be more responsive to you."I let out a sigh while pondering on her words. All she said made sense but there was something else to it — she wasn't sure of his current state, and I doubted he would be better soon after everything that had happened.I put my hands over my waist and walked to my bed."It's fine. I'll handle the rest from here," I told her.She looked at
Yvette's POVI spent the next day sobbing and begging, but the outcome remained the same — I was snubbed in the very worst way. I had lost hope waiting for Mira, and Dave? Well, there had never been a time he seemed to care except when I had to prepare to meet the members of the board. My headache never really had time to heal, so I left my room… away from the four walls that made me small and anxious. I stopped by the library to get a book first, before I made my way to the garden. The pool not so far from it called my name, though, but I really didn't want to add fuel to the fire. I stayed put in a hidden corner, always glancing behind me to be sure not even Knox could see me from his room.Hours passed with me feeling slightly alive… and the book by Colleen Hoover… I wouldn't lie, she worsened my emotional state in the best way. I could now cry and reflect deeply on everything. Knox was angry and he had the right to be. I was stupid and now I was paying the price. Christopher was a
Yvette's POVI didn't quite recall taking the elevator to my room nor lying on my bed, but I woke up to see a version of Mira I had never actually seen before. Beside her was the doctor as well as Dave. I let him do his job without bothering to be curious. I had lost my voice and the will to sound defensive when everything I said only made me sound stupid or deluded. However, seeing Knox walk into the room with dark circles around his eyes and an unreadable expression on his face, my body suddenly moved in an attempt to gain his attention. Mira pulled me back down immediately, while he spoke with the doctor as though I wasn't even in the room with them."It's okay," she whispered, pulling the covers over me.I clutched the hem of the fabric tightly as I watched Knox continue to ignore me until he saw the doctor off.I swallowed hard, biting down the sob that almost escaped my lips."I want to be alone," I announced to no one specifically.Dave was the first to leave, then Mira. She st
Knox's POV She didn't utter a word. Not that she even met my gaze so I didn't hold back this time.“Fucking tell me why you did it!” I demanded. She shuddered under the sound of my voice. Swallowing the agony deep in my throat, I pulled the tie and removed my jacket, all in an attempt to calm my
Knox's POV Leaving her room before more damage could be done, never rid me of the effect of her previous question. I wasn't thinking straight. I had told her that she was deluding herself and that somehow, she needed saving. Literally, she did. However, I could be the one in need of that ‘saving
Yvette’s POVI averted my gaze to the marble floor, before he could look away first. I listened carefully as Dave gave the maids some instructions. Turns out that Knox had already ordered some things for me and they had to confirm that whatever they were was a perfect fit. With that, Dave was gone
Knox's POVThe look on her face was priceless when she knelt in front of me. I smirked, finding how she'd switch through thousands of emotions in a short time frame. Perhaps… Those were her super powers.“What's the matter?”She blinked in confusion and I watched as her cheeks burnt bright red in e
