Amelie buried her face in her knees in the same place where she fall due to Theresia’s cruel actions. While the other workers still surrounded her and continued to encourage the poor girl.
“Amelie, I’m sorry. This is all my fault. If only I hadn’t advised you to…” Katie, who was downcast and reluctant to look Amelie in the eye, was unable to continue her sentence.
“You don’t have to feel guilty for that, Katie.”
Hearing Amelie’s answer, Katie looked at Amelie’s face for a moment, then looked down again. Her feelings of guilt for Amelie were so great. Katie thought the disaster that befell Amelie today was result of her suggestion that Amelie tell Jonathan about her pregnancy.
“Because sooner or later, Jonathan has to know about my pregnancy.”
“Then, what are you going to do after this? Are you going to comply with Madame Theresia’s wish to terminate your pregnancy?” asked Katie cautiously.
‘Of course not.” Amelie answered confidently and managed to keep all eyes on her. “I will take care of my baby and nurture him so that he grows up well.” Amelie’s hand gently rubbed her stomach and she smiled, though she understood that the consequences of her choice to keep the pregnancy, nurture it, and raise the child alone would not be easy.
“Does that mean …” Katie said it again and looked at Amelie with a fierce gaze, as if she knew what answer she would hear from her best friend’s lips.
“It does. I’m leaving this house to keep my baby.”
Katie sighed and tapped her forehead in disarray. Would her days working at the Hayes’ house be the same as when she and Amelie worked together?
“Shouldn’t it be?” Katie, feeling frustrated, immediately pursed her lips to discourage her from giving Amelie advice. What if her advice was as fatal as what had just happened?
“Do you have something to say, Katie? Just say it,” said Amelie while looking at the faces of everyone surrounding her one by one.
“I’m not sure about saying this. But I’ll come back with advice if you want to hear it.” Katie replied with guilt and doubt still lingering in her chest.
Irene, who was gently stroking her s’s back nodded, followed by everyone else, including Amelie.
“There will be two possibilities. First, Young Master will try to persuade the Grand Mistress to accept that are you currently carrying her grandchild. And the second possibility is that she will remain furious and revile you, blame you, and even demean you. You know, she’s very haughty woman who treats us very badly if things don’t go the way she expects.” Everyone in the room nodded their heads. Justifying what Katie had said.
“Than, what should I do?” Amelie asked Katie.
“You just need to hide for now, Amelie. We’ll let you know once one of the possibilities I mentioned has happened. I will ask you to come back if Theresia can accept the presence of her grandchild that you are currently carrying, or ask you to stay hidden if the worst happens.” Katie concluded while turning to Robert and Irene.
All heads nodded in agreement with Katie’s suggestion. Although all of them knew, the second possibility was the most likely to happen.
“I knew something like this would happen.” Robert muttered as he leaned against the wall with one hand.
When Robert first realized Amelie and Jonathan’s relationship, he warned his daughter many times to keep her distance from the young man. Robert knew exactly what his mistress was like.
Theresia Hayes is a socialite whose name in quite famous in the Auckland region. She has a haughty and arrogant nature. It seemed highly unlikely that she would accept Amelie into the Hayes family. Moreover, Amelie was just a maid. With her arrogant attitude, it is possible that Theresia will have the heart to force Amelie to abort her pregnancy.
What father’s heart doesn’t break seeing the daughter he loves being faced with a difficult situation? Had he known it was going to be like this, Robert would have strictly forbidden his daughter not to be intimate with that young man, even if he had to warn her with a beathing to deter her. But it was too late.
“Honey, calm yourself.” Irene’s soft voice managed to make Robert stop complaining.
“I’m happy to take your advice, Katie.” Amelie spoke confidently as she got up from her sitting position.
“You can stay at my parent’s house, Amelie. It’s not far from Westfield Newmarket. I’ll give you the address.” Katie pulled out the stationery she always kept in her apron pocket. It was like a safety charm for Katie. To protect her from Theresia’s scolding she was told.
The girl held out a piece of paper with her parents’ home address to Amelie.
“Thanks, Katie. I’ll be leaving this afternoon.” Amelie replied, confirming the time of her departure so as not to arouse the house owner’s suspicion.
“Don’t be afraid; we’ll keep your whereabouts a secret from the rest of the Hayes family,” said Janne who had been quietly listening to Amelie and Katie’s conversation.
“Go, my child, I know it’s the right decision for you and the baby in your womb.” Irene took her daughter’s body into her arms.
Amelie closed her eyes as the girl inhaled the soothing smell of her mother’s body to fill her lungs. Because her gut feeling told her, soon, she would be living apart from Irene and Robert, the two humans who had brought her into the world.
Amelie released her embrance and said, “Okay. I will leave here soon.”
Everyone in the small room nodded and smiled. For them, the decision to ask Amelie to leave the Hayes family home was the right one.
‘it’s true what you said, Amelie. Tonight is a good time for you to leave. I’ll call my mom to let her know that you’ll be staying there for a few days.” Katie hugged Amelie and kissed both of her best friend’s cheeks in turn, from right to left.
“Take good care yourself, sweetie. Mom and Dad will always miss you.” Pleaded Irene as she took Amelie’s hands and looked into her eyes. The girl just nodded while forcing her lips to stay up.
“Take good care of my grandchild, Amelie. Make sure is born healthy.” Robert chimed in, which made Amelie turn her head quickly.
A big smile was etched on Amelie’s face. The girl wiped away the tears of emotion that were pressing in her eyes. Amelie rushed to hug Robert, who was slightly overweight.
Robert stroked his daughter’s hair and kissed the forehead of the girl he loved so much after Irene.
Amelie’s smile grew when she heard Robert refer to the fetus in her womb as ‘my grandchild’. It meant that there would be another human being who would love the child in her womb besides herself.
A glimmer of hope and enthusiasm slowly broke through Amelie’s once pitch-black heart. Now, she is more confident and enthusiastic about taking care of the child in her womb.
“Tell for this fetus, Amelie. Grandmother is already longing for his birth,” said Irene as she rushed to hug the father and daughter, who were still embracing. The three of them dissolved into sobs.
Katie and the others still stood transfixed, starting with emotion at what she was currently witnessing. Katie couldn’t help but cry too.

The address Katie gave led Amelie to a simple house with gray paint and grass growing in the yard. The house looked deserted, and Amelie doubted if the address Katie had given was wrong. But wouldn’t it be impossible for the girl to forget the address of the house where she was raised by her parente?Amelie looked around to wait for someone to pass by on the street. The girl wanted to ask, is it true that the house in front of her right now is Katie’s parent’s house?Unfortunately, the street was deserted. The sound of a door knob moving made the girl turn her head with sparkling eyes. She hoped to get a definite answer about Katie’s parents’ house.A woman around 50 years old appeared from behind the door. She smiled kindly and immediately approached Amelie. “Are you Amelie Anderson?” the old woman asked with a tilt of her head. “That’s right, ma’am, I’m Amelie Anderson.” Unfinished with her speech, the old woman cut Amelie off. “Katie has told me a lot about you; please come in
During her three-day stay at Katie's parents' house, Amelie had no problems whatsoever. She felt comfortable in the house. Matilda and Harry always told her to behave like she was at home."Eat well, Amelie; your baby needs nourishment too," Matilda said after seeing Amelie take only one slice of bread and put it on her plate."This is enough, Auntie," Amelie replied with a smile."Hem," Matilda said, shaking her head as she placed one slice of toast and a few slices of banana on Amelie's plate."We're sorry about what happened to you, Amelie," Harry said after taking a sip of his milk. The bearded man looked at Amelie with a compassionate gaze."Thanks, Uncle," the girl replied with a faint smile, adding some manuka honey to her meal. Amelie had a sweet tooth."I believe you are a strong girl, Amelie. Forget the bitterness and start turning over a new leaf. There is always new hope every time the day changes." Harry said encouragingly to Amelie.Matilda nodded quickly after hearing h
Jonathan's days were so boring. Home was a place he always wanted to return to whenever he left, but that was no longer the case now that Amelie wasn't there. He lazily opened the door to the house, and his laziness only increased when Theresia walked in with a joyful smile plastered on her wrinkled face. It was certain that the woman had a plan behind her hospitality tonight."My son, are you home yet? Eat up; tonight's special dinner is waiting for you."Jonathan walked resignedly in the direction where Theresia pulled his hand. The man frowned as he found his mother's best friend at the dinner table, along with her husband and a girl he didn't recognize at all.The girl kept smiling at Jonathan. Making Jonathan feel uncomfortable and occasionally returning her smile with a faint smile. What was Theresia's plan this time?"Meet Jonathan; this is Elena. The girl I'm going to match you with." Theresia said it plainly.Jonathan reflexively spit out the drink that had just entered his m
It was a sunny afternoon. Blue colors adorned the sky in the number-one largest city in New Zealand. In a red Ferarri luxury sedan that cut across the highway, a woman sat in the back seat. She looked very fashionable in a black dress and a maroon leather handbag. Expensive watches also supported her flashy appearance. "We're heading to Le French Eatery." Theresia said to her personal driver, who looked at his mistress from the center rearview mirror and nodded his head afterwards. The woman wrote a short message that read, "I'm on my way to Le French Eatery. Please wait a moment."Theresia again occupied her hands with the mirror and lipstick. She smeared the deep red lipstick on her heart-shaped lips, which successfully added to her elegant look. Smiling enthusiastically, Elena waved as soon as she saw the female entity she had been waiting for since 15 minutes ago. Theresia, who noticed the waving, smiled and quickened her footsteps towards the table where the girl was. "Have
"Oh, my granddaughter! You look even more beautiful now that you have grown up." Marie said, upon seeing the girl entity standing on the doorway with two large bags carried in both hands.Marie's wrinkled hands immediately embraced Amelie's body and rested her head on the shoulders. She inhaled a soothing scent of rose on the girl's body. Once satisfied, Marie released her embrace on the girl, Marie grabbed one of the big bags Amelie was carrying and walked inside."Come in, I've prepared some food for you."The girl nodded and walked behind the old woman, as she looked around. The house changed significantly from the last time Amelie left the house. The patient was 12 years old then."Thank you, Grandma." Amelie replied that she was seated on a dining room chair."Thank you for what? It's my duty to feed the grandchildren I love so much."The food, including Amelie’s favorite chocolate cookies, was laid out on a square table in front of her. Meanwhile, Amelie continued to wander arou
For the past few days, Amelie has been experiencing morning sickness that is quite disturbing. Not a morsel of food entered the girl's digestive tract, but she regurgitated it. Maybe, for the past few days, she could still endure. But not this time. The nausea that attacked was severe, as if stirring up the contents of her stomach. The dizziness that attacked her head was no less intense. Amelie came out of the bathroom with staggering steps. Her vision was foggy. Marie, who witnessed the incident, immediately ran to her granddaughter and carried her to a chair.Amelie's two slices of toast were left unattended. Now, the old woman no longer spoke at length like before. Marie felt guilty for forcing her granddaughter to eat so much. Meanwhile, Louis continued to walk back and forth while muttering, "Oh, my God, what has happened to my granddaughter?" Not much different from Marie, Louis also experienced the same anxiety after seeing Amelie's condition lately. "Didn't I repeatedly
Amelie's health condition is improving day by day. The medicine prescribed by Gideon has successfully reduced the nausea and vomiting that the girl has been experiencing lately. After finishing her breakfast, Amelie grabbed a small backpack filled with medicine and a bottle of water to accompany her on her journey this morning."Where are you going?" asked Marie with a questioning look as she noticed the small backpack beside her granddaughter, who was now tying her shoelaces.Hearing Marie's question, Amelie looked up and said, "I'm going to look for a job, Grandma.""You said work? Your condition has just stabilized, dear. Can you drop the idea and look for a job another time?" Marie asked, starting the negotiation session. After finishing tying her cats' shoes, the girl stood up and smiled at Marie's thoughtful words to her."Look," Amelie said as she twirled around in front of her grandmother to reassure the old woman that there was nothing to worry about. "I'm much healthier now,
Jonathan didn't expect April 15th to come so soon. April 15th was the date that the Hayes family and Victor's family had agreed on for Jonathan's marriage to Elena. A beautiful girl who could not make him forget the person he loved the most, Amelie Anderson. With a sour look on his face, the 25-year-old man looked at himself in the mirror of his room. He was wearing a black suit that had been specially bought for him on his wedding day. Jonathan wanted to rip off the suit that his mother had given him."Jo, I beg you, don't put on that expression. This is your big day." Theresia pleaded when she saw the expression on Jonathan's face.I don't know how many times Theresia has said the same message. And she was sick of it.Jonathan forced his lips to pull apart, revealing a stiff smile. A dry smile with an expressionless face, like a mannequin in a clothing store. At least, that was how he wanted to silence his mother's mouth so that she would walk away from him.It seemed to work. Ther
