Chapter 2

Author: Dust of Dawn
The deep red wine splashed onto my white dress. I then clutched my stomach and collapsed to the ground before curling up like I was in deep pain.

"It hurts… Ah, it hurts so much…"

Felix frowned and crouched over me, reaching out to grab me by my wrist.

"Where does it hurt?"

I bit down hard on my tongue so that I'd break out into a cold sweat.

"My stomach… My stomach hurts so much… I think I might have just started my period… It hurts so much, Felix…"

I then rolled around on the ground like I was in great pain, letting blood seep out from my dress between my thighs.

Actually, I had grabbed a broken piece of glass and stabbed myself on the inside of my thigh amidst the chaos earlier.

The smell of blood began to spread, and the wolves around us took a step back with a look of disgust on their faces.

The stocky Beta scoffed lightly and spoke in Wolfish.

"This is gross. Of all times, why did she have to start her period today?"

The skinnier Beta also covered his nose with his hand.

"Menstrual blood stinks. It smells too sour and fishy, and it'll affect the taste of the flesh too!" he said in Wolfish.

Felix's expression was also very unpleasant. He sinisterly stared at the bloodstain on my dress, growling in Wolfish, "Damn it! I'd wasted so much time raising her, and now, she had to let me down at the most crucial point in time?"

Still, he stood back up and folded his sleeves back, still speaking in Wolfish. "We'll let her rest for another week until all of her menstrual blood is clear. Then we will make our move when the moon is full. Her flesh will be even more nourishing for us, then."

I'd played my cards right after all.

These beasts were very particular about taste.

Felix crouched again and picked me up from the ground rather harshly. Then, he began striding upstairs while still pretending to be gentlemanly with his words.

"I'm sorry, everyone, but Ariel isn't feeling well. Please carry on without us. I'll be taking her away for now."

Felix brought me back to our bedroom and placed me on the bed. I bounced lightly on the mattress. He then looked at me tenderly and said, "Rest well and don't go anywhere, okay?"

Then, he turned around and left. The door shut tightly behind him, and I could hear the sound of him locking the door from the outside after that.

I heard high heels clacking on the floorboards outside my door, as if the owner were in a hurry.

It was Darcy Marshall, Felix's so-called "adoptive daughter".

Her voice was shrill and demanding as she exclaimed in Wolfish, "I don't care! I want to eat her heart now! I'm in a lot of pain!"

Felix's voice was low and deep as he replied to her in Wolfish, "Behave yourself, alright? Just be patient for a while longer. Ariel's all stinky and foul-smelling now, and you're going to get nauseated if you insist on eating her at this moment.

"We'll just wait until the next full moon to eat her. It'll be a lot more effective then too. Coupled with the other ones you've had in the past, I'm sure that your wilting wolf syndrome will be completely cured then."

"I can't wait anymore!" Darcy exclaimed in Wolfish. "I'm so done with living a life where I'm so much weaker than the other members of the pack before and after my transformation!"

Darcy wouldn't stop throwing a tantrum and even began bargaining with Felix. She continued in Wolfish and said, "You'd better stay with me tonight. We haven't slept together in a very long time."

I was in complete shock and disbelief when I heard her say that. Wasn't Darcy supposed to be Felix's "daughter"?

Felix just laughed loudly and replied in Wolfish, "Alright, alright. I'll make sure you're full and satiated tonight."

Their footsteps then faded away into the silence.

I fell back onto the bed, my back completely covered in cold sweat.

My dress was soaked, and it felt very uncomfortable as it clung to my body. However, I didn't dare to move.

It was too quiet in the room—so quiet that it was getting suspicious.

I lifted my head and looked around me.

This was the house in which Felix and I had lived for three years after our marriage. I used to think it was a very safe, warm, and cozy place to live. But now, it was eerily creepy to me.

I looked at our wedding portrait hanging on the wall. Felix was smiling very handsomely in the photo, his fangs protruding from his mouth as he smiled. Now that I looked at it properly, he looked like he was about to devour me at any moment since then.

A massive teddy bear lay on the bedside table next to me. That had been the first gift that Felix gave me, and I always hugged it to sleep every night.

I never used to be suspicious of anything, but now I stared at the teddy bear's black plastic eyes and realized there was a faint red glow coming from them, especially in the dim light.

The faint red glow disappeared for a few seconds afterward, too, but I saw it. I'd caught sight of it.

It was a spy camera.

Another chill ran straight down my spine once more.

No wonder.

Everything I did, whether I was awake, asleep, or even changing in my room, had been under their surveillance the entire time.

I pulled the blankets over my body to cover myself, letting myself hide in the darkness as tears finally flowed down my cheeks. However, I didn't dare to sob out loud.

I forced myself to stay silent by biting down on a corner of the blankets. However, my body wouldn't stop trembling.

I didn't want to die. I didn't want to be devoured by a pack of werewolves!

I wanted to continue to live.

It was soon daylight, but I didn't manage to sleep a wink the whole night.

My eyes were red and swollen, and my stomach was indeed hurting now, but mostly from fear and shock.

I pulled the covers off my body and got off the bed, still feeling a little unstable on my feet. I walked over to the door and tried the doorknob.

To my surprise, the doorknob twisted all the way. They hadn't locked me inside my room after all!

They were probably very confident that I hadn't caught on to their plans yet. I inhaled deeply and pushed the door open before walking out.

I heard sounds from the kitchen, like someone sharpening a knife.

I didn't put on my indoor slippers and carefully made my way downstairs to the kitchen.

The housekeeper, Suzy Barker, had her back turned to me. She held a very sharp meat cleaver, honing it against the block repeatedly.

Felix roared, "If you never seduced me and begged me to treat your wilting wolf syndrome, how could I ever have possibly—"Darcy cried out in pain at his bite. She turned on him and bit him on the neck in retaliation, interrupting him mid-sentence.Felix howled. "You bitch!"They both then tore at each other as blood continued pooling around and on their bodies, the two half-wolves tearing mouthfuls of fur off the other in a fit of rage.I just lifted my phone and coldly recorded everything on video like I was watching a circus performance."Alright, keep going at it, you both. I'll give whoever wins a merciful death!"There was a sudden loud crash, and the floor-to-ceiling windows in the villas shattered, sending shards of glass flying everywhere. Then, a team of fully armed police officers rushed in, pointing the dark muzzles of their guns inside.Right after that, several men in black trench coats walked in, carrying long swords made of silver and specially-made firearms.Th

Felix looked at me, his voice hoarse as he rasped, "How… How do you know the King's Wolfish? Who are you?"I jumped down from the table and picked up the steak knife from the ground, slowly making my way toward him as my high heels clicked loudly against the floorboards."Who am I?" I grinned. "I am your worst nightmare."Darcy was slumped against the table, mid-transformation. She wanted to take on her wolf form and try to escape. However, her bones were stuck mid-shift, and her bones suddenly dislocated with a blood-curdling crack. She screamed loudly, looking like a deformed monster.I walked over to her, grabbed her thinning wolf fur, and shoved her down against the table before stabbing the steak knife right into her thigh. A third of the knife sank straight into her flesh.Darcy let out another shrill scream that reverberated across the entire villa.I then twisted the handle of the knife, stirring the blade inside her wound."Didn't you want to eat my heart just now, Dar

A soft hiss was heard. And with that, the humidifier was turned up to its maximum spray volume.Thick, white mist instantly billowed out from the machine, filling up the entire dining room within seconds. This was a poisonous mist mixed with high-purity liquid silver. It wasn't life-threatening to humans at all, since it was only presented as a harmless vapor that might choke them slightly. However, it was like deadly poison to these werewolves.I immediately heard screams from all around me. The members of the pack, who had still been acting arrogantly with me earlier, were now all rolling on the ground in pain as they clutched their faces.Whatever skin that was exposed to the mist quickly ulcerated, blistered, and melted off their bodies. In just a short time, the floor was saturated with a gruesome mixture of blood and pus."My eyes! I'm blind!""This stings like hell! What the hell is this?""It's silver! There's silver in the air!""Save me!"The villa was filled with

It was now 7:50 pm, and the villa was very brightly lit.All the Elders and high-ranking members in the Bloodclaw Pack were all gathered together, dressed to the nines in their formal attire and holding glasses of wine between their fingers. At first glance, they appeared to be a perfect picture of refined gentlewolves with impeccable manners. But upon closer inspection, the look in their eyes was hungry and ravenous. The desire for blood in their eyes was blatant, loud, and bold as they fixed their gaze on me.I felt like I was the Sunday roast on the table, waiting to be devoured by dozens of hungry beasts. There was even a fishy, nauseating stench in the air.Felix took my hand and led me to the head of the table. However, he didn't let me sit. Instead, he pressed on my shoulders and pinned me down against the table."Everyone," he started, his voice booming in the dining hall. "This is the finest medicinal ingredient that I've carefully raised for three years."She is a pureb

Darcy was wearing a low-cut, revealing, lacey nightgown. She had a cloying smile on her face and fresh hickeys on her chest. She looked like she'd just come over from Felix's room.I kept my scrutinizing gaze subtle and quickly plastered my usual smile on my face when I looked at her.She then handed me the bowl of dark liquid. It smelled absolutely awful and pungent."Hey, Mommy. Daddy purposely got Suzy to brew this tonic for you. It'll help you feel better during your period."The smell almost made me throw up.I looked at her pure, innocent face while listening to the subtle Wolfish growls in her throat."Hurry up and drink it, you idiot! This will quickly clear the last of your menstrual blood and refresh your internal organs, so I can finally eat it and heal from my wilting wolf syndrome! I've been waiting forever to eat your heart!"That old woman's heart from last time tasted absolutely vile! It was tough and dry and disgusting!"I reached out to take the bowl from Dar

After reaching the villa, I kept making up all sorts of excuses to avoid seeing the family doctor, and I could tell that Felix was quickly losing his patience with me.I needed to speed things up and find a chance to escape as quickly as possible. It wasn't until the fifth day, when I was close to running out of time, that I finally got my chance.Felix was surprisingly not keeping a strict eye on me that day, and Suzy wasn't around at home either.I heard voices from Felix's study and realized he was on a video conference. There was a slight crack in the study door, and I took off my indoor slippers before silently tiptoeing my way toward it, peeking in through the crack.Felix was facing his computer screen, seemingly deep in a business conversation with the other party on the line. This was my chance.I slipped inside the study and hid myself behind the massive curtains before the floor-to-ceiling windows. My heart was beating very rapidly.I knew that there was a safe in t
