Gerald.

Monday. 28th July. Five days later…

Evening.

Luke and I sit at Alon’s bar, nursing our drinks. Smoke coils through the air, the sharp scent of cigarettes clinging to everything.

I sip my beer, watching as our wives laugh with a few women across the room. Humans. Iris is so at home among them, chatting brightly, while Primrose amplifies every story with wild gestures, anchoring her.

I was the one who suggested this night out. We all needed air after the madness of the last few days. Simon’s battle. His widow’s petition to the elders in New York. Erianna’s betrayal. Iris’ distance. Too much. Tension has been shattering through us like glass.

“What was the verdict concerning Simon's widow, Gerald?” Luke raises his voice over the thrum of music.

I drag my eyes from my wife and exhale. “They dismissed it. Despite all the supporters she gathered. The elders felt her petition was uncalled for, especially since she never brought it up while her husband lived.”

Luke frowns, sh

Agnes. My hands tremble after Willa finishes recounting how Gerald ordered my little girl locked away until he decides her fate. How the pack demanded blood for Iris’ past sins. My heart slams in my chest as the weight of it sinks in; their demand for blood, their demand for her life. But I force myself still. I pin Willa with my stare even though fear coils deep inside me.“Iris pleaded with me days ago not to reveal this. She said she would tell her husband herself, about her truth, about their cub.” My voice is steel. I hit hard on the word husband, reminding Willa that what lies between them is theirs alone. Not mine. Not hers. She hears me. I see the shift. Her sharp posture softens. Her gaze drifts to Iris’ photo on the wall. She rises slowly, cane tapping into the silence.“I used to hate you… and your daughter,” she says, her back turned. “When she broke my son’s heart.”I inhale. I’d felt the weight of that hatred without her saying it. To hear it aloud is heavier. Bricks pr

Willa Ford.Minutes later…“Gerald, listen to me, you cannot imprison your wife. It’s ridiculous.” My voice lashes out sharper than I intend, but he doesn’t flinch. He just stands there, rooted by the office window, his back rigid, his silence heavier than a mountain.Since he dragged us all here to the mansion, he hasn’t said a word to me. Not one. He only left me in my room like a discarded parcel, then disappeared into himself. But I couldn’t sit there, not while Iris is rotting in a cell beneath our feet.So I came for him.I limp across the office, cane tapping against the wood, until I’m beside him. I reach for his shoulder, try to turn him toward me. Nothing. He’s stone.“Gerald.” My voice cracks. “Iris is your wife. She’s your Luna. She’s the love of your life, you said so yourself. At least hear her out. In private. Not in front of the pack. She must have had her reasons not to speak.”Nothing. Not a word. The silence gnaws at me, so I turn to leave, my heart heavy. Then his

Oleen.Meanwhile…I stand at the center of the crypt, surrounded by five ancient stone graves, the resting places of the Dark Five. Ramleigh witches so feared in their time, their names were forbidden to be spoken after death. Their powers were bound in blood and stone, never to be woken again. But here I am. Ready to defy every oath taken by the clan. The air reeks of damp stone and decay, the kind of cold that eats into bone. Shadows slither across the walls, alive with the blood moon’s pull. My veins burn with dark energy, thick and poisonous, seething louder as the red glow deepens above. Tendrils of shadow curl from my fingertips, hissing in my ears like restless serpents.‘Now. Wake them.’The voice of my mirror self echoes through me, sharp and commanding.I draw the dagger from the small of my back, stepping toward the pentagon shaped ruby embedded in the center stone. Its crimson glow pulses like a beating heart, the seal of the Dark Five's prison. My pulse syncs with it, fra

Iris.My throat locks. My chest caves in at Erianna’s words, at Gerald’s eyes, disbelief, hurt. And devastation crashes into me all at once. “Ge…Gerald, I can explain…”“Just show me your neck. Show me!” His voice is fire, hot and demanding.I flinch, my heart pounding out of rhythm. I try to stand, but my legs fold beneath me, and I sink to the cold earth. My knees almost brush his boots. He staggers back as if my very touch would poison him. My lower lip bleeds where I bite it.I can’t look at him. I can’t look at anyone. My trembling hands lower the turtleneck of my blouse, baring the scar carved into my skin. The mark of my betrayal.Gasps ripple through the air. Gerald’s is the loudest.“I need your confession,” he says, voice steady but trembling with the effort to stay calm. “Now.”And I break. Words spill from me like molten iron, searing everything they touch. I confess. Every lie, every act, every secret. The crowd’s whispers slice like knives, their gasps spreading like wi

Chapter 90Gerald.Thursday, 31st June. Next day.Night.11:45 p.m.The forest drowns under the crimson glow of the blood moon. Shadows twist across the clearing where the entire pack waits, restless, anticipation humming through the air like a taut string. Tonight should be sacred. Tonight should be Eliora’s night. Yet unease claws at my chest, because Oleen still hasn’t arrived. The pack stirs around me, voices murmuring, feet dragging against soil. My jaw grinds.“It’s nearly midnight, Gerald, and no one has seen or heard from Oleen,” Luke whispers at my side.My frown deepens. “Did they check her home? She knows she has to be here. The ritual begins exactly at midnight. She wouldn’t dare…”“She’s been gone for days,” Luke cuts in. “No calls. No messages. Nothing.”I whip my gaze to him, anger sparking hot. “And you wait till now to tell me this?” My voice carries, heads turning toward us. I catch Iris’s gaze across the clearing, her presence like a balm, even in this chaos. She c

Iris.Wednesday, July 30th. Two days later…Noon. All day, I haven’t had a moment’s peace from talk of the blood moon festival. Everywhere, adult werewolves and younglings chatter with excitement. Their joy claws at me, pulling me back to when I still lived in Silvaton Ridge as Iris Herewit.Back then, some restless young wolves had started a trend, turning the once somber festival into a spectacle. Outfits printed with ‘S.R Blood Moon Festival.’ Bakeries sculpting cakes shaped like the crimson moon. Streets lit up with extravagant decorations. It caught on so quickly, even other towns copied us. What once felt sacred turned vibrant, celebratory. A welcome event. And that’s what makes this harder. Nostalgia wraps around me, heavy and suffocating. I belong to this tradition, yet I must keep myself numb, acting like it doesn’t matter. Acting like I have never lived the tradition before. I push open the door of Paw’s Bakery, letting the scent of warm pastries and fresh coffee swallow m
