Lorenzo's eyelids fluttered open, revealing a familiar room. He looked around, recognizing it as his bedroom. He turned his head and saw Cassie on the other side of the bed, putting clothes into a bag.

“Leaving after a one-night stand, babe?” he joked, but his words caught in his throat when he saw the look on her face. Her face lit up when she saw he was awake, and all the worry in her eyes melted away.

“You’re awake! I was so worried,” she said, rushing to his side, "you fucking scared me!"

She had a wide smile on her face that made Lorenzo’s heart feel warm and full. The feeling was bittersweet, though, because he knew their time together was ending soon. This perfect, little fantasy would soon be over.

“This little sting?” He gently touched the bandage on his chest. “It’ll take more than a bullet to kill me, darling.”

Cassie smiled, and a feeling of pride filled the room as she spoke. “I handled those vampires after you decided to take a nap.”
