LOGINChapter 4
đShannonđ
I stared at the boss, my heart pounding in my chest. Every nerve in my body screamed for him to say no. To refuse this deal. To keep me hereâanywhere but not with this man.
The strangerâs offer hung in the air like a heavy storm. A breeder. He wanted me to be his breeder. My stomach twisted at the word.
Minutes ago, I had fought like hell against the guards dragging me into this building. But now, I would rather stay here, in this hellhole, than go with him. Because I knewâdeep in my bonesâI wouldnât survive him.
The man standing before me was powerful, dangerous. His presence alone sucked the air from the building. His sharp gaze pinned me down like a prey. There was something in his stance, in his voiceâpossessive, ruthless. Going with him meant writing my death wish with my own hands.
âSo, what do you say, Mr. Manager?â The manâs voice was calm, but beneath it, there was something darker. A warning. A demand.
The boss hesitated, his lips pressing together. Then, to my horror, he offered a tight smile and stretched out his hand. âI guess we have a deal, my king.â
The floor beneath me might as well have shattered. My entire body went rigid.
What?
This can't be.
He had claimed me just minutes ago. He wasnât supposed to give in so easily. He was supposed to fight for me, to refuse. Instead, he gave in without so much as a second thought.
Why? What was it about this man that made people bend to his will? Even the bossâwho was speaking with so much authority minutes ago âlooked terrified.
The man moved towards me, his pace slow and calculated. âThat was quick.â He reached for me, but I pulled back, shoving his hand away.
âDonât you dare touch me!â My voice rang out, fierce and unwavering, shocking even myself. âI am not going to be anyoneâs breeder. Especially not for some stranger.â
He laughed. A deep, mocking sound that sent a chill running down my spine.
The boss, however, was furious. His face twisted in rage as he faced me. âDid I just hear you turn down the kingâs offer?â
I didnât flinch. Didnât move. I had been tossed around like a pawn for too long. I was done being weak.
Before I could react, strong hands grabbed me from behind. I thrashed and kicked, but it was useless. They were too strong. I was hauled toward a sleek black car waiting at the entrance.
Through the tinted glass, I caught sight of themâshaking hands and laughing with so much excitement. My chest tightened. I had been traded. Again.
First, my parents had sold me. Then the boss. And now, I belong to this man.
Tears burned my eyes. Was this my fate? A never-ending cycle of being passed from one monster to another?
The door swung open and he slid in beside me, his face unreadable. The air in the car grew thick, suffocating.
âDrive,â he ordered, his voice cold.
The car roared to life, speeding down the road. I sat frozen, my body trembling. I shot a quick glance at him. His face was blank, his gaze locked ahead. But there was something in his eyesâsomething I couldnât quite name.
Minutes passed in suffocating silence before the car finally came to a stop.
The door opened, and he stepped out. Instantly, his guards were on me, pulling me out of the car. My arms ached from their iron grip.
âGreetings, King Evan.â
A soft voice pulled me from my daze. A woman who seemed to be in her mid-twenties, bowed before him, her posture submissive.
I blinked.
Evan?
That's his name? A name that sounded so⊠normal. Almost gentle. It didnât match him at all. He was anything but gentle.
Who was he? And why did everyone fear him like he was a god?
He barely acknowledged the woman, his expression as cold as ever. And thatâs when it hit me.
It wasnât just me. He didnât care about anyone.
A chill ran down my spine. Was this why the boss had handed me over so easily? Was this why no one dared to oppose him?
Tears welled up in my eyes, but I swallowed them down. Crying wouldnât save me.
But this man wasn't done yet. He turned to his guards, and his next words left me completely breathless.
âGet her into the guestroom and have the maids prepare her for tonight.â
My breath seized.
Tonight? What does that even mean?
An unsettling fear gnawed at me but before I could process his words, his guards were already on me, grabbing me tight as they led me into a strange room.
Some women were already there, waiting. The moment the guards threw me in, they approached me, their faces warm with smiles.
âWe have been ordered to get you prepared, milady.â
The words landed like a slap. My pulse quickened.
So it's really not a joke.
I pulled away from their grip, resisting every attempt they made to force me into the bathroom.
âI can do it myself.â I said, my voice shaky now. The women exchanged glances with themselves, smiling in a quite suspicious manner.
They shook their heads, their faces defiant. âI'm sorry, but we were strictly ordered not to let you do anything. We need to take care of you so you don't feel fatigued from what you'll be doing tonight.â
"And what's that?" I inquired, becoming increasingly fascinated.
They became silent again. I nodded and let them do their thing.
They assisted me in showering, and when we returned to the bedroom, they brushed my hair and prepared a nightgown for me to wear. It's a thin, see-through white lace nightgown.
When I put it on, it fitted wonderfully around my curvaceous shape, leaving little to the imagination.
I really wanted to ask them why I am dressed like this and why I had so many rose petals in my bath. What were they preparing me for?
But before I could get an opportunity to ask them anything, they were already gone.
Just suddenly, the door burst open once again, bringing with it an overwhelming atmosphere.
Chapter 52ShannonI froze.Right there, on the doorâjust above the handleâwas a note.My heart began to beat fast, so fast it almost jumped out of my ribcage. I stared at the paper, afraid to even move closer. The firelight flickered across the room, making the shadow of the note dance against the wooden door.It wasnât small or hidden. Whoever left it wanted me to see it.I swallowed hard and took a step closer. My hands were shaking so badly that I could hardly lift them, but I reached out anyway. The paper was rough under my fingers. My eyes moved over the words, and my whole body went cold.âWatch your back, Shannon. Iâll definitely come back for you and your miserable child.âI read it once. Then twice. Then again, just to be sure my eyes werenât lying to me.But they werenât.It was real.I pressed a hand to my mouth, feeling my breath catch in my throat. For a moment, I just stood there, staring at nothing. The silence in the room felt too heavy, too loud. Even the fire crackl
Chapter 51Shannon Why?Maybe he wanted to talk about the baby. Maybe he wanted to show everyone that I was under his protection. Or maybeâŠNo. I told myself again. I shouldn't imagine things that arenât there. He doesnât care about you.He only cares about whatâs his.I stood slowly and walked to the bed. My fingers brushed the fabric of the dressâit was soft like silk, cool under my skin. I lifted it and held it against myself. It was beautiful, too beautiful. The kind of dress a queen would wear.I slipped it on carefully. The fabric fit perfectly, hugging my waist, flowing down like silver water. The neckline was gentle, and the sleeves were long, lined with tiny crystals. It made me feel strange, almost like I was someone else. When I looked into the mirror, I barely recognized the woman staring back. Her eyes looked softer, her face calmer, even though her heart was still trembling.I brushed my hair quickly, letting it fall over my shoulders. It had grown longer lately, curlin
Chapter 50Shannon I looked at her for a long time. âMy safety,â I repeated quietly.âYes, Luna.âI nodded and forced a small smile. âThank you, Rhea.âShe smiled again, relieved, then began tidying the room while I ate.As I finished the soup, my eyes wandered around the chamber. It was hugeâstone walls covered in dark velvet curtains, a large bed draped with silver sheets, and a burning fireplace that filled the space with soft orange light. It didnât feel like a prison, but it didnât feel free either. When I was done eating, Rhea came closer. âIf youâre ready, Luna, Iâll prepare your bath.âI nodded. âAll right.âShe disappeared into the adjoining room, and soon I heard the sound of water running. The soft smell of lavender filled the air. While she worked, I sat by the fire, staring into the flames. My mind wouldnât stop turning.Evanâs face came back to me again and again. The anger. The protectiveness. The way his voice had softened, just for a second, when he asked if I was hu
Chapter 49Shannon Owen obeyed, though his shoulders tensed. âYes, Alpha,â he said quietly.Evanâs eyes narrowed. âI appreciate what you did,â he said after a pause. âBut donât ever touch her again. Do you understand?âOwen blinked, confused. âI was only trying to protect her.ââI know,â Evan said, his tone icy, âbut I decide who protects her. Not you.âThe words hit hard. Owen bowed his head, his jaw tight. âYes, Alpha.âThen Evan turned to me. His gaze softened for just a heartbeat, and my breath caught. âAre you hurt?â he asked.I shook my head quickly. âNo⊠Iâm fine.âHis eyes searched mine, as if trying to see if I was telling the truth. Then he gave a small nod. âGood. Youâre coming with me.âHe turned to leave, but I hesitated. I looked at Owen. His eyes met mine, filled with worry.âThank you,â I whispered softly. He gave me a small, sad smile. âJust stay safe, Shannon.âEvan stopped at the door and glanced back at him. âOwen,â he said, his voice like steel, âthis is your fin
Chapter 48ShannonâNot any chance, bitch!âThe voice boomed through the dungeon like thunder. My heart jumped. I turned sharply toward the sound, and thereâstanding in the doorwayâwas Owen. His face was hard, his eyes blazing like fire. He looked nothing like the calm man who had left earlier. His chest was rising and falling fast, and his hands were clenched tightly by his sides.Lisa froze for a second, her claws still stretched out, her blue eyes glowing with hatred. Then she slowly turned her head toward him and smiledâa cruel, dangerous smile.âWell, well,â she hissed, straightening up. âIf it isnât the brave little hero again.ââStay away from her, Lisa,â Owen growled, stepping closer. âDonât you dare touch her.âLisa laughed, but it wasnât a happy laugh. It was sharp and cold, like broken glass. âOr what? Youâll stop me?â she mocked. âYou think you can protect her from me?âOwen took another step forward, his fists tightening. âTry me.âI sat there frozen, my back pressed agai
Chapter 47Shannon âWhat?â I queried, turning towards him with my mouth wide open. âOwen, are you sure about this?ââWait here while I go get the evidence.â He said and stormed out at once, his footsteps echoing off as he left.Barely some minutes later, the door opened again, and he strode right to where I was, his breath ragged. The dimly lit bulb hanging down the center of the room shone directly on his face, reflecting his trembling yet determined features. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small sized camera. He crouched down to my level, his clothes drenched with his sweat as he shoved the camera in front of me.âThere you go.â He muttered and clicked a button, automatically turning on the camera. As soon as the camera came on, the first image that flashed was that of Lisa. My hands flew to my mouth, my eyes reeling with shock as I watched everything. âThis is unbelievable!â I muttered under my breath, tears already streaming down my eyes. âI can't believe Lisa can
