Renee's POV

I'd seen handsome men before, but this one definitely took the cake! He was every male lead in the movies women fawned over. Definitely the type that could get any woman he wanted, yet he was somehow wasting time with saving me.

But why?

"Are you okay?" The man asked again. "You're not hurt, are you?"

I shook my head. "No, no. I'm fine, thanks to you."

His smile widened and revealed perfectly white teeth underneath. "No need to thank me. I was just simply saving a beautiful woman in distress."

My cheeks began to burn from embarrassment. Was he blind? Or playing a trick on me? Did he think he was suddenly entitled to my time just because he saved me?

It was just like when Gregory saved me when we first met… It was at a beach, and a rip current formed and dragged me out to sea. I wasn't a good swimmer, so it wasn't a surprise when I couldn't make my way back to shore.

I thought I was going to die…

But Gregory saved me that day. He even gave me a compliment, just as this myste

Camille's POVJulian burst into tears and wailed so loudly that it began to attract more attention. At this point, most of the people on the field had stopped what they were doing. The whole event came to a grinding halt.I could feel their stares on me; judgmental and angry. Sickness and panic began to rise in my throat when I realized what was happening.I was being blamed.I was the one in trouble. My nerves were a wreck as I shook with anxiousness. "I-I didn't mean anything malicious by giving him that watch, though! You can't possibly b-blame me for this!""I-I simply wanted him to shine!" I continued. "Was it truly so wrong of me to want that for him?""Your intentions may not have been bad, but you're still responsible seeing as you're the adult in this situation that allowed for it to happen." Coach Morris spoke up after having mostly been quiet."Our rules for the event were that all jewelry and accessories weren't permitted on the field because they could cause serious injuri

Renee's POV"She has to be coming to tell me I've been chosen, right?" Julian's eyes lit up like stars in the night sky. "I knew I was going to be picked for the hockey team! I knew it!"Seeing him so genuinely excited and happy almost felt foreign to me. Which was why I didn't have the heart to tell him that it wasn't him that Coach Taylor was coming to speak to.It was Caleb."Good afternoon, I'm Coach Taylor." The blonde woman spoke. "Coach Morris," she motioned for the man standing next to her, "told me that there was a young man who wanted to join our hockey team.""Me!" Julian squealed with delight. "It's me, isn't it? It's always been a dream of mine to play for a team!" Coach Morris and Coach Taylor exchanged looks. A silent conversation was being held between them, and it was clear that they were in the same predicament as me. No one wanted to be the one to shoot down a child's dream like that. "Julian, right?" Coach Taylor asked. He nodded his head enthusiastically. "Wel

Renee's POVMy heart is a torn, aching mess at the sound of Julian's cries piercing through the field. Without a second thought, I ran for him in hopes of helping to tend to the wound. Luckily, I had always thought to keep a mini emergency first-aid kit on me.I knelt down before Julian and tried to reach for him gently. "Julian, sweetie, let me help—"But Julian jerked away from me as he cradled his arm close to his chest. "GET AWAY FROM ME!" He shrieked. "This is all your fault! You and that stupid rat child!""Sweetie, please, you're bleeding." I tried to reason with him. "I don't want your wound to get infected, just let me get the diamond and glass shards out and clean it. Then I can take you to the school nurse and—"Before I could finish, I was suddenly pushed out of the way as my ass hit the ground.I looked up to see both Camille and Gregory right at Julian's side as horror and concern etched into their features."Oh my god! Julian, what happened?!" Camille asked."Who did thi

Renee's POV"I honestly just wished that Julian would've apologized to Caleb…" I sighed. "But I'm glad to see that he seems to be making friends and having fun. Thanks to you," I offered a small smile."Well, I plan to be here for the long haul, so I'll make sure no one bullies little Caleb anymore." Leonard's smile was wider. "And it's not like any of them can afford to simply avoid me either. The perks of being, well, me, are that everyone wants to sit there and suck up. So, as long as I have Caleb under my wing, nothing will happen to him."I couldn't help but laugh. "At least someone uses their status for the greater good, even if it's a little chaotic!" Then my expression softened. "Thank you, though… I don't think there's anything I can do to repay you for all that you've done for us."Leonard shook his head. "You don't need to do anything, Renee. You being here at my side is more than enough."Heat flooded my cheeks at his words as I tried to calm my racing heart. He had such a

Renee's POV"That's the school's highest-level board member? Wow, who would've thought?" A parent began to gossip."It's unexpected for sure…" Another mused. "After all, no one has ever seen him before. It seemed that only Principal Wallace knew about him.""From what I heard," added another, "he doesn't like to participate in school affairs anyway. I mean, it's not like he has to anyway. He was the one that saved the school from its past corrupt principal that pocketed all the tuition and payroll money for its staff.""That's right… This place almost shut down if it wasn't for him clearing all of the debt away! And he was able to basically rebuild it from the ground up and hire all of the staff." The first one sighed. "He's so generous with his wealth!"I stood in awe of Leonard as I listened to the parents gossip about him. I'd already seen so much of his genuine attitude before, but to hear how he saved this school from certain ruin and was so invested into the quality of education

Renee's POVFootsteps charged from behind me as I looked to see Julian whirl past me and right to Camille's side."I hate you, you mean and stupid cow!" Julian shrieked. "How could you hit my Auntie Camille like this?! And you wonder why me and daddy would rather have her around than you!"Caleb ran into my arms then as he hugged me tight. "Mommy, I'm so glad you're here!"Hearing Caleb's relief in my presence helped me swallow the pain of Julian's words as I sought to confront him. "How can you sit there and bully my son? I watched what you and your so-called friends did to him! All the names you called him, insulting him, taking his belongings and throwing them everywhere… You should be ashamed!""If anyone should be ashamed here, it's you." A familiar male voice stated.I jerked my head back to see Gregory standing at the locker room entrance."Do you have any idea how much a 'bullying' accusation hurts one's reputation?" Gregory asked. "Will you even be satisfied once you've ruined
