Theron vanished for only a moment before reappearing, first-aid kit in hand. He lowered himself to the edge of the bed and gently lifted my injured foot into his lap. Heat surged to my cheeks. My nightgown clung damply to my skin, my foot was bleeding, and I still had no clue how I’d ended up here half-dressed, half-dazed, and completely mortified.

“There’s a shard of glass lodged in the cut,” he said, calm and composed. “I need to remove it.”

My breath caught in my throat. “Maybe I should do it,” I suggested, reaching to retrieve my foot, but his fingers wrapped securely around my ankle, holding me still.

“I promise it won’t hurt. Just relax,” he said with a light chuckle.

Relax? Was he serious?

I was sitting on his bed, soaked and half-naked in a nightgown that barely qualified as decent. He was still shirtless, the waistband of his sweatpants dipping just low enough to reveal those distracting back dimples. And he was telling me to relax?

I swallowed hard, watching him pick up a pa

Mother’s chest rose sharply, her lips curling into a cold, amused smirk. “Open threats? That’s new.” “Then you’d better get used to it, Mother,” I shot back, my voice low and sharp. The curve of her smile stretched wider, its chill seeping into the room. “I didn’t expect you to defend her. I must admit it makes whatever you have with her seem more... authentic.” A bitter laugh escaped me. “Do you even care whether it’s real?” She frowned, lifting her teacup with careful grace. “Of course I care. I want you to have a wife, someone capable of bearing your children. If this is all for show, it’s just a waste of your time and resources.” I huffed. “You never cease to astound me, Mother. How your stone heart manages to circulate blood is beyond me.” She narrowed her eyes. “Being pragmatic doesn’t make me unfeeling.” “You’re right,” I said, a smirk creeping up despite the tension. “You’re full of hatred and disdain.” “Is that what you think?” Her brows arched in m

THERON POV Ami's eyes were the color of summer skies, soft and stormy all at once. I watched the blush creep over her cheeks, her lips parted ever so slightly, her breathing quickening with every passing second. Her fingers trembled where they tangled behind my neck want clashed with hesitation. She wanted me. I could feel it in the way her body leaned into mine, yet I also saw the fear that hadn’t entirely left her. And I couldn’t risk her bolting again. I was halfway to abandoning restraint, ready to peel off her clothes and kiss her into oblivion, when the shrill ring of my office phone sliced through the moment. Just like that, the spell broke. A familiar frustration settled over me. This wasn’t the first time something at the company had dragged me away from her, and I was starting to believe I was cursed. I even had a suspect in mind. But this time, I kept her close. Her presence calmed me more than anything else. Just having her within reach made the weight on my should

AMARIS' POV Theron shot to his feet, yanking his hands from mine as if my touch had seared his skin. His eyes widened, his face draining of color as he stared at me. Silence clung to the room for a heartbeat too long, then a bitter, hollow laugh tore from his throat. He dragged his fingers through his hair and turned toward one of the tall, floor-length windows. “You... don’t believe me,” I said softly, the words tasting like betrayal. Saying them out loud only deepened the ache already gnawing at my chest. “I need more,” he said at last, his voice hoarse. “Details. Anything. What was he wearing? How did he sound? His voice anything.” A tear slipped down my cheek. “It was dark... I couldn’t see much. He blindfolded me, and when I ripped it off, all I could think about was getting away.” He whirled toward me, fists clenched at his sides, trembling with fury. “His fingers,” he ground out. “Did he wear any rings? A signet? Anything?” I inhaled sharply, trying to claw throug

THERON’S POV Amaris sat quietly, her chest rising and falling with every unsteady breath as her tear-filled eyes fixed on me. “Thank you,” she whispered, bowing her head. I gently lifted her chin, making sure her eyes met mine. “Tell me everything what happened after I left for England.” She bit her lower lip and gave a small nod. Her hand, visibly trembling, reached for the glass of water. She drank it quickly, swallowing down more than just the liquid. Then she set the glass aside and said, “Actually... I want to start earlier than that. You deserve to know what happened after I saw you in that classroom with your girlfriend.” I didn’t want to go that far back. But I understood I owed her the chance to speak her truth. I drew in a slow breath. “All right. I’m listening.” She cleared her throat. “Despite what you thought at the time, I didn’t tell anyone what I saw. I was too humiliated to even speak about it. I kept it to myself, but...” Her voice faltered as she chewe

A soft caress brushed against my cheek, gently stirring me from sleep. As my eyes blinked open, they adjusted slowly to the muted light filling Theron’s bedroom. He stood beside the bed, fastening the buttons of his shirt, a gentle smile gracing his lips. “What time is it?” My voice came out hoarse, barely louder than a whisper. “Almost six,” he replied, a flicker of hesitation in his voice. “I need to head to the office. I would’ve let you sleep, but... I didn’t want you waking up to an empty room.” He paused, uncertain. “Of course, you can go back to sleep and” “No.” I sat up, brushing my hair back. “I planned to go in today anyway. I might as well go with you.” His brows drew together. “Are you sure? You don’t have to rush back.” I inhaled deeply. “I do. My team’s counting on me, and I want that presentation ready by the end of next week.” He nodded slowly, taking in my words. “All right. I’ll make us breakfast. Think you can be ready in thirty minutes?” A grin tu

Such a small word "Us" yet it echoed in my head like something foreign, almost surreal. Ansel had been my ex, my burden to bear, and yet… somehow, I knew Theron wasn’t going to let me face this alone. He wouldn’t step aside and let me clean up the wreckage Ansel left behind, not when Eldon Alcott was involved. Theron despised that man. Any chance to tear him down, he’d gladly take. But it wasn’t just that. This fight? He was in it for me. Theron had told me to focus on recovering while he and Mr. Gallows mapped out our defense against Ansel and Alcott. I wanted to protest I tried but I wasn’t blind. I knew I couldn’t do much from a hospital bed. It couldn’t have come at a worse time. Ansel’s case, Alcott’s involvement, Twila’s looming shadow... I still hadn’t told Theron the truth about my past, and time was slipping through my fingers. “Maybe you should just call him,” Romilly suggested gently. “Tell him you need to talk.” With Theron deep in strategy meetings with h
