"You're lying."

The words left my mouth before I could stop them.

The silence inside the Archive grew heavy.

Ancient books lined the stone shelves from floor to ceiling, but suddenly they felt like silent witnesses instead of records. The old scholar, Elarion, didn't flinch.

He simply looked at me with tired eyes.

"I wish I were."

I shook my head.

"No."

I stepped back from the open book on the table. The drawing of the woman—Aurelia—still stared back at me.

She looked too much like me.

The same dark hair.

The same sharp eyes.

Even the mark winding around her arm was almost identical.

It couldn't be a coincidence.

But it also couldn't be true.

Kael stepped closer, his voice calm.

"Lira."

"Don't."

I held up my hand.

"I need to think."

For the first time since this nightmare began, I felt completely lost.

I wasn't just running from hunters anymore.

I wasn't just carrying a mysterious mark.

Now I was being told I looked exactly like a woman who had almost destroyed the world.

How was I supposed to accept that?

Elarion carefully closed the ancient book.

The soft thud echoed through the chamber.

"You are not Aurelia."

I looked up.

"But you carry her blood."

The words settled deep inside me.

"My bloodline?"

He nodded.

"The mark does not choose strangers."

Kael folded his arms.

"You said Aurelia survived the ritual."

"She did."

"And then?"

The old scholar walked toward a faded map carved into the stone wall.

Long cracks spread across it like spiderwebs.

"Aurelia was never meant to survive."

He traced one finger across the carving.

"The ritual was created to unite two ancient bloodlines. Instead, it created something stronger... and far more dangerous."

"What happened to her?" I asked quietly.

Elarion sighed.

"Fear happened."

His answer surprised me.

"The packs feared her power. The hunters feared losing control. Even the people she loved began to fear what she might become."

I swallowed.

"So everyone turned against her."

"Yes."

No wonder she had become a legend.

No wonder everyone still remembered her name.

Kael remained silent, but I noticed his jaw tighten.

He was listening carefully.

Learning every detail.

"Did she really try to destroy the world?" I asked.

Elarion looked at me for a long moment.

Then he slowly shook his head.

"No."

I blinked.

"What?"

"The history you know was written by the victors."

The room fell silent.

"What do you mean?"

The old scholar looked toward one of the dusty shelves.

"History often remembers monsters."

His eyes met mine.

"It rarely remembers who created them."

A chill ran through me.

"So... Aurelia wasn't evil?"

"No."

His answer came without hesitation.

"She was hunted."

The mark on my arm tingled.

Softly.

Almost gently.

As if it recognized her name.

Elarion noticed.

"So it remembers."

Kael's sharp gaze moved to my arm.

"What remembers?"

"The mark."

The old scholar's expression darkened.

"It carries echoes of every bearer before her."

My stomach tightened.

"You mean..."

"I mean," he interrupted softly, "sometimes the mark shows memories that are not your own."

Suddenly, the dreams made sense.

The woman is screaming inside the ritual.

The broken circle.

The pain.

Those memories had never belonged to me.

They belonged to Aurelia.

Hours later, Elarion led us deeper into the Archive.

The corridors became narrower.

The air grew colder.

Old blue flames burned inside iron lanterns, casting long shadows across the walls.

Finally, we reached a massive stone door.

Unlike the others, this one bore the same symbol that had appeared in my vision.

The silver crest.

My heartbeat quickened.

"I've seen this before."

Kael looked at me.

"In your vision?"

I nodded.

"It was carried by the hunters."

Elarion's face became grim.

"Because it was once their symbol."

He pressed his hand against the door.

Ancient gears rumbled beneath the floor.

Slowly, the stone entrance opened.

Inside stood a circular chamber.

In its center rested a crystal pillar, glowing with soft blue light.

It was beautiful.

And strangely familiar.

The moment I stepped inside, the mark burned.

Not painfully.

It felt... alive.

The crystal answered.

Light spread through its center.

The room began to tremble.

Kael immediately moved beside me.

"Lira."

"I didn't do anything."

"I know."

The glow grew brighter.

Tiny particles floated through the air like stars.

Then a woman's voice echoed around the chamber.

Soft.

Gentle.

"Do not fear."

I froze.

Everyone did.

The voice wasn't coming from Elarion.

Or Kael.

It came from the crystal.

Light gathered above it.

Slowly forming the outline of a woman.

She wasn't completely solid.

More like moonlight given shape.

Dark hair flowed over her shoulders.

A silver mark wrapped around her arm.

Exactly like the drawing.

Exactly like my dreams.

Aurelia.

She looked at me with sad eyes.

"You've waited a long time," I whispered.

She smiled sadly.

"No."

Her voice sounded distant.

"I've been waiting for you."

Tears unexpectedly filled my eyes.

"I don't understand."

"You will."

Her gaze shifted toward Kael.

"The Alpha's bloodline still protects the promise."

Kael frowned.

"What promise?"

Aurelia looked back at me.

"The one they buried with my name."

Before anyone could ask another question, her expression changed.

The sadness disappeared.

Replaced by urgency.

"They're coming."

Every hair on my arms stood up.

"Who?"

"The ones who finished what they started."

The crystal flickered violently.

"The hunters?"

She shook her head.

"Worse."

The chamber suddenly shook.

A loud boom echoed somewhere above us.

Dust rained from the ceiling.

Kael immediately reached for his sword.

Another explosion followed.

This one is much closer.

Darius burst through the doorway, breathing hard.

"Alpha!"

Kael turned.

"What happened?"

"They breached the outer gate."

Elarion's face lost all color.

"Impossible."

Darius shook his head.

"They didn't come alone."

Another crash echoed through the Archive.

Stone cracked somewhere in the distance.

Warriors shouted.

Steel clashed.

The attack had already begun.

Kael looked toward me.

"Stay here."

"I'm not hiding."

"You'll only slow us down."

I folded my arms.

"I've heard that before."

For the first time in hours, a faint smile appeared on his face.

It disappeared almost instantly.

"Fair point."

The moment lasted only a second.

Then another explosion shook the chamber.

Aurelia's image began fading.

"No!"

I stepped toward the crystal.

"I still have questions."

"You'll find the answers."

Her voice grew weaker.

"But first..."

Her eyes locked onto mine.

"...you must survive."

The light vanished.

The crystal became dark.

The room fell silent.

Only the distant sounds of battle remained.

Kael drew his sword.

Its silver blade reflected the blue light of the chamber.

"Darius."

The Beta stepped forward.

"Get Elarion to safety."

"What about you?"

Kael looked at me.

His golden eyes were filled with determination.

"We're ending this."

The bond pulsed between us.

Stronger than ever.

Not fear.

Not pain.

Resolve.

As we ran toward the entrance, another roar echoed through the Archive.

It wasn't human.

It wasn't a wolf.

It was something far older.

Something that should have remained buried beneath the mountain.

Kael stopped so suddenly I almost ran into him.

His expression turned deadly serious.

"No..."

I followed his gaze.

At the far end of the corridor, hidden beneath drifting dust and shattered stone, a pair of glowing crimson eyes slowly opened in the darkness.

Someone—or something—had awakened.

His grip wasn't painful. It was grounding, reminding me that I wasn't facing this alone."Are you alright?" he asked quietly.I nodded, though my knees still felt weak."I'll be fine."He searched my face for a moment, as if trying to decide whether to believe me.
