BENEATH THE FACADE

Behind the façade of wealth and power, a web of secrets awaits.

CHAPTER 50

Emily's POV

So when I turn and see who it is, I'm full of admiration. I forget I'm naked before a stranger and begin to admire him.

The guy from beautiful pieces.

I knew the heavens had smiled on me the moment I saw him again.

He wasn’t just attractive, he was captivating. The kind of man that made the air feel different when he walked into a room. His hair was dark brown, thick and wavy, falling just above his collar, with the faintest fade near his temples that only added to his charm. His beard and mustache were perfectly kept, with soft hints of brown that caught the light.

There was a quiet strength in the way he held himself. A dimple carved into a strong jawline. Broad shoulders that made his shirt cling just right. And his eyes… slow, unreadable, the kind that made you want to get lost in them just to understand what they were hiding.

He looked like a man who knew who he was.

BENEATH THE FACADEBehind the façade of wealth and power, a web of secrets awaits.Chapter 68Emily’s POV: The room was wrapped in silence, the kind that felt too loud, where every sound stood out like a scream. The wall clock ticked steadily, each second stretching longer than the last, and the wooden floor groaned softly beneath Eddy’s slow, restless pacing.I sat on the bed like someone whose body was there but my soul had slipped away. My shoulders were hunched, arms limp by my sides. My face, drained of color, felt heavy from the tears that had fallen and dried, fallen and dried again. My eyes stung, raw from crying too much, too long. The letter still rested in my lap, its edges slightly crumpled from where I’d clutched it earlier in panic. I had reached for it hoping for answers, but what I found instead was a wound carved open in ink. Its words didn’t just speak, they pierced. They told me things I wasn’t ready to hear, truths I didn’t want to carry. With every line, I felt l

BENEATH THE FACADEBehind the façade of wealth and power, a web of secrets awaits.Chapter 67Emily’s POV: The manager at Caffe Farenzo—a tall man in crisp black trousers and a white tee with the café’s logo printed neatly across his chest, walked up to our table with a polite, almost apologetic smile.“Good evening, ma’am… sir,” he began, his voice low but firm, the kind that tried to be respectful even while drawing a line. “I hate to interrupt, but we’re about to close up for the night. The staff needs to wind down. I hope you understand.”“Oh God,” I whispered under my breath as my eyes darted toward the window. The sky outside had darkened completely, a velvet sheet of night spread across the world. I hadn’t even noticed when the sun dipped or when the streetlights flickered on. I’d been too caught up, too wrapped in the whirlwind of everything Eddy had been saying. The kind of truth that eats away at the hours without asking permission.I reached for my phone, the screen lighti

BENEATH THE FACADEBehind the façade of wealth and power, a web of secrets awaits..Chapter 66Emily’s POV: The paper trembled between my fingers, the words blurring as tears slipped freely down my cheeks. I hadn’t even made it halfway through, and yet it felt like the ground beneath me had already cracked open. The letter had been tucked inside an old envelope, faded at the edges, as if time itself had tried to erase its contents. But the ink remained stubborn, each word heavy, like it had waited too long to be read.Emily, this may be the only way you ever learn the truth...My breath caught. The handwriting looked familiar—masculine but careful. But I couldn’t recognise it. It must’ve been written years ago, but the pain in the words still felt fresh. I read on, and with each sentence, a piece of me seemed to shift, to question what I’d always believed.Your mother loved Alexander once. Truly. Deeply. But your stepfather, Wilson, couldn’t bear to lose her. Actually, he had married

BENEATH THE FACADEBehind the façade of wealth and power, a web of secrets awaits..Chapter 65 Emily’s POV: The moment I stepped into the café, the scent of coffee hit me — warm, bitter, familiar. Smelt like dad's morning coffees. But nothing about this moment felt comforting. My eyes scanned the near-empty room, then dropped to the message on my phone again.Green shirt. Black jeans. Seated by the window. Come alone.I hesitated. My fingers curled tighter around the strap of my handbag. I almost turned back. I should have. But I didn’t.He was already watching me.When our eyes met, something inside me turned cold. My steps slowed, heart picking up speed.No. No… it couldn’t be.“Eddy?” I whispered as I approached, voice barely holding itself together. He stood up slowly, hands tucked into his pockets like he didn’t just shake my entire world loose. His expression wasn’t smug or cruel — just quiet. Like a man who had carried too much for too long and was finally laying it down.“H

Afternoon light spilled across the children’s desks, casting slanted shadows over half-marked math problems. I sat at the front, red pen in hand, trying to focus. But my head felt heavy, not from the sums, but from the conversation I had with Eddy just yesterday.I'd looked him in the eyes and said the words I’d rehearsed over and over in my head.“There’s no point hiding anymore, Eddy. We keep circling something we’ll never have. And I’m tired. I’m tired of pretending, of sneaking around, of feeling things I shouldn’t feel. I’m Ethan’s wife, and I need to act like it. We… We're never going to end up together. So let’s stop lying to ourselves.”He didn’t argue. Didn’t plead. He just stood there, silent for a moment, then gave the faintest nod, the kind people give when they’ve been expecting heartbr

BENEATH THE FACADEBehind the façade of wealth and power, a web of secrets awaits.Chapter 63 Emily’s POV: It had been a week since the message came. And still, I hadn’t told anyone.I moved through the house like a shadow of myself. The kettle whistled, but I barely noticed. My hands went through the motions, folding little clothes, wiping down counters, warming up bottles, but my heart wasn’t in any of it. Not really.Josh babbled from the playmat by the window, his chubby hands reaching for the air like he was chasing something only he could see. I smiled, but it didn’t reach my eyes. Not this time. The lullaby I hummed felt hollow, like background music in a place that had forgotten joy.Something was wrong. Not outside, everything looked normal. Too normal. It was inside me that felt off. Even at school, I found myself shrinking into the background. I kept my head down, my words few. It wasn’t that anyone was unkind, it was me. I just couldn’t bring myself to pretend.Ace, eve
