Chapter 3

Author: Bagel
During my first workout, I was out of breath after just twenty jumping jacks.

Sweat soaked right through my shirt. My heart pounded wildly in my chest, and my legs felt like jelly.

This body was just too weak. The gym trainer told me to stop and rest, but I clenched my teeth and kept going.

"Just finish this set," I told myself.

In my days as a top model, my mother would stand by the mirror with a tape measure during every workout, her eyes completely cold.

Now, no one was staring at me with a tape measure.

But I finished every single rep using my own willpower.

When the whole routine was over, I collapsed on the mat, gasping for air.

The girl in the mirror had a bright red face, and her sweat-soaked hair stuck to her cheeks. She looked like a total mess.

But I stared into those eyes and smiled.

I used to only smile for the camera, but now, I was truly smiling for myself.

"Day one. Done."

Over the next few weeks, I ate three healthy meals a day and worked out consistently.

This body's baseline stamina was terrible.

A simple set of squats left me dripping in sweat. My core strength was shockingly weak, and I would lose my breath from the slightest movement.

But I didn't push myself to extremes.

When my energy was drained, I stretched. When hunger hit, I ate quality protein.

The numbers on the scale didn't drop overnight, but my body became visibly firmer.

Late one night, someone started tagging me like crazy in the freshman group chat.

"Hey Bianca, I heard you got a gym membership? Is that a joke?"

Right after, someone dropped a secretly recorded video into the chat.

In the video, I was wearing a baggy hoodie, sweating heavily, and jogging awkwardly on the local park track.

The group chat was instantly flooded with mocking memes.

"Did the National Weather Service issue an earthquake warning?"

"She's probably stomping holes into the concrete."

"Stop trying. Even if you run until you drop, a loser is always going to be a loser."

"NGL, I can smell her through the screen..."

Then someone tagged @Harper.

"Harper, what do you think? How funny is this?"

A few seconds later, Bianca popped up using my account.

She replied with a heart emoji, acting like she was full of sympathy.

"Please everyone, stop being so mean. Bianca is actually trying to exercise, and we should encourage that."

"But Bianca, take my advice and don't push it. You don't need to hurt yourself just to compete with me."

Her little minions in the chat immediately started agreeing.

"Compete with you? As if. She's a gross troll, and you're literally flawless."

"Harper is so sweet. I can't believe she's defending a weirdo like that."

Then, a DM from Bianca popped up on my screen:

"See that? No matter how hard you try, you're still a joke."

"Homecoming is in two months. I can't wait to see you waddle into the gym like a clown."

I didn't reply.

I ignored my phone and turned to face the full-length mirror by the wall.

A real comeback speaks for itself.

In two months, they would eat their words.

I took a deep breath and fell into an easy set of back stretches.

The mirror reflected my steady, deep breathing.

I reached out and touched my cheek, which was already starting to glow with health.

"Just wait."

"At the dance, I'll show everyone who the real queen is."

The next morning. The witch's dimly lit suburban house smelled sharply of burning sage and old dust.My mother slammed a massive check onto a velvet-covered table."Take the money. Break this ridiculous curse and bring my real daughter back. Otherwise, my lawyers will burn this place to the ground."The witch, dressed in a faded black shawl, didn't even blink. She slowly pushed the six-figure check back across the table."Magic isn't a business, madam." The witch's raspy voice echoed in the room. "It's a lesson. Money can't buy back a soul."My mother's face turned livid, but before she could start screaming, I put a hand on her arm.The witch's cloudy eyes shifted, looking back and forth between me and Bianca."You wish to return," the witch murmured. "Tell me why. What have you learned?"I stepped forward, looking directly into the witch's eyes."I learned the true value of my health." I pointed at my frail original body. "I refuse any glory that costs me my life. No runway is worth

It was two months into the semester, and the chaotic night of the school's annual charity fashion show had finally arrived. The backstage air was thick with cheap hairspray, heavy perfume, and suffocating anxiety."Bring the finale dress over!" My mother's sharp voice cut through the chaos. She marched in, flanked by two stressed assistants.I leaned against the doorframe, watching the scene coldly.Sitting in front of the brightly lit vanity mirror, Bianca was curled over in obvious agony inside my body. The heavy designer dress weighed her down like a pile of bricks. She simply couldn't stand up.She clutched her chest, cold sweat sticking her loose blonde hair to her deathly pale cheeks. My mother marched up and slammed a heavy clipboard onto the table. Makeup brushes bounced and scattered across the floor."Harper, stop acting dramatic. You have ten minutes until you walk the runway. Get up and get dressed." Her tone left zero room for argument."I... I really can't breathe..." Bia

At three in the afternoon, the campus coffee shop smelled sweetly of espresso and fresh pastries.I sat by the window, enjoying a warm whole-milk vanilla latte.Smack!A crumpled document was slammed onto the table right in front of me.I looked up.Bianca was standing there, drowning in the designer jacket I used to love. But now, the jacket hung on her like she was a wire hanger.I could hardly believe I was looking at my own body. That once-beautiful face was deathly pale. Her eyes were sunken, and my signature blonde hair looked dry and brittle as dead grass. She looked like a ghost about to shatter.Bianca stared at me, her bloodshot eyes brimming with tears."You win."She pulled out a chair and collapsed into it. Her voice was weak and hoarse.I glanced down at the document on the table.Notice of Contract Termination and Breach of Contract."Looks like the shoot didn't go well," I said, leaning back. I wasn't mocking her; I was just stating a fact."I can't do it anymore." Bian

Halfway through the dance, the bass was deafening.I leaned back comfortably in the center VIP booth."Hey, Bianca." Hudson's voice cut through the noise.Wearing his varsity hockey jacket and holding a Solo cup of spiked punch, he slid into the seat next to me."That was quite a stunt back there. But putting others down isn't going to win you any popularity contests."He slid a cup toward me, leaning in with that arrogant smirk he thought worked on every girl. Then, he tossed his Jeep keys onto the table with a clatter."Let's get out of here. The music sucks anyway. The team is having a bonfire by the lake. You can ride shotgun."I looked at him coldly. I used to think he was hot, but now looking at him just made my stomach turn.I didn't touch the cup."A private party? Just for us?" Hudson winked and reached out to put his arm around my shoulder.I dodged his arm, stood up, and walked right over to the DJ boo
