Fifteen • Dwelling In The Past

I squeezed the excess water from the cloth before making my way back to Heather's side. As expected, her fever had gotten worse throughout the night and she was breathing heavily as beads of sweat gathered on her forehead and neck.

I wiped away the sweat from her body and frowned as I thought of what to do next. She had to take her medication but was barely awake. I put the cloth back into the basin and stared at her flushed face.

Heather didn't look like she was having a peaceful sleep. She would toss and turn every now and then while looking extremely uncomfortable. I looked away from her and stared at a lantern on the wall.

In the two years that the Harlows and I were closely associated, I have never heard them mention Heather. I only knew that they had another daughter when they mentioned it in passing.

I neither saw Heather at balls nor when I visited the Harlow's manor. Was she keeping to herself or were they hiding her on purpose? Back to what Annie had said
