Forty • Bittersweet Reunion

I groaned and squinted my eyes to avoid the brightness that streamed inside the room. I turned to face Benjamin and frowned when I noticed that he wasn't in bed. It was strange because he never left me asleep while we were at the main castle.

I sat up groggily and my heart fell at the sight of the unfamiliar room that I was in. Despite its extravagant beauty, it was neither of Benjamin's rooms nor mine. I gently pressed my hand against my racing heart and tried to calm my breathing as I put my thoughts together.

"You're finally awake," a familiar voice said from the far corner of the room. My gaze went there and met with Prince Alfred's. He was seated on a grey couch with an open book on his lap. "Welcome to Bluet Roei."

"Bluet Roei?" I repeated in surprise.

He nodded and gestured to the bedside table. "You can help yourself to some water if you are feeling dehydrated."
