Chapter 2

Autor: Richie Rich
Malcolm suddenly yanked Lumi into his arms, their faces way too close.

He shot me a smirk. "Irene, seriously? You're too old for these drama queen—"

I didn't even let him finish—I stood on my toes and kissed Emmett. No hesitation. Just heat and breath and silence.

For a split second, panic flickered across Malcolm’s face.

Lumi covered her mouth in feigned shock. "Malcolm! She's just upset because of me. Now she's using someone else to make you jealous!"

Malcolm's jaw clenched, veins popping. "Irene, quit acting petty. Lumi's actually decent, and you're still being a brat. Apologize. Now."

I brushed him off. "Mr. Lowell, this is MY wedding with Emmett. Don't embarrass yourself more than you already have."

If he could hand me off to another guy mid-ceremony, he didn't get to whine about saving face.

The crowd erupted—cheers, claps, the whole thing.

Malcolm's face drained, but his eyes lit up with rage. "Get down here. Keep this up, and you can forget about marrying me!"

I laced my fingers with Emmett's and faced the priest. "Let's move on."

Malcolm stormed up the stage, grabbed my wrist, and shot Emmett a dismissive look. "You're really gonna throw yourself at anyone just to spite me?"

I ripped my hand back. "And who says you get a say in who I marry?"

Malcolm froze, then lunged for me again, pissed.

Emmett stepped in.

He smiled, voice ice-cold. "Malcolm, it's my wedding. Try not to harass MY BRIDE."

'My bride.' That one hit hard—Malcolm's face twisted.

They stared each other down, all heat and ego.

Right on cue, Lumi ran up sobbing. "Irene, it's all my fault! You two just looked so perfect together—height, looks, background... I was only joking! I'm sorry! If you'll just forgive Malcolm, I'll leave the Irving family and disappear forever..."

But this time, Malcolm didn't leap to defend her. He just stood there, fists clenched.

"Emmett, what the hell? I told you it was a joke before the wedding. And you're actually going through with this?"

Emmett shrugged. "Looks that way."

Then he laughed, lazy and cool, sliding an arm around my waist.

"She's right. Thanks to you, I got lucky and married an amazing woman."

He leaned in, voice slow and sharp. "What's not yours was never yours. But don't stress, bro—I'll take care of everything you couldn't hold on to."

Malcolm lost it. Threw a punch.

Lumi screamed.

I watched them scuffle for a second, then raised my hand—security knew what to do.

Malcolm got dragged off, still glaring at me.

Under a flood of gasps and whispers, Emmett and I turned to each other.

We said our vows.

The priest smiled.

"You are now husband and wife."

Right as he moved, Emmett signaled. Security hauled Malcolm out without a word.Emmett glanced at Lumi, who looked like a hot mess. "Not vibing with our jewelry? Cool. Don't bother shopping here again."She got dragged out, too.Their screaming echoed down the hall as Emmett called over his assistant, scribbling in big, bold letters: [Lumi Irving and Malcolm Lowell are banned from this property.]"Post it where everyone can see," he said.Watching him go full boss-mode for me? All that built-up frustration just... melted.I bit back a laugh. "What brings you here?"He just smirked, got the green light from my manager, and swept me away to the rooftop restaurant.Candlelight danced inside, the city glowing beyond the glass—warm, soft, kind of magical."What's all this for?""Our legal anniversary. The day we signed the papers."I laughed. "That counts?""Obviously."He slid over a gift box, grinning. "Check it out. Anniversary present."Inside was my old design notebook—th

"Irene..."Malcolm stared, eyes all over the place, face tight with confusion. He'd been stalling ever since she got taken. When OmniSphere stayed silent, he'd actually exhaled—figured the chopper with their logo was no biggie. Big company. Emmett probably just some exec's kid.So he decided to shove Emmett out of the way and do what he always did: grabbed some roses and waited for Irene to cave. But this time? His gut was off. Something was wrong. When Irene didn't reach out, he cracked and texted her—only to find out she'd blocked him.Heat flared in his chest—rage, panic, both.Something was off.He spammed her with messages from burner numbers, demanding answers, begging to meet. She shut each one down without a word.Yeah, Irene didn't need his sorrys anymore.***"What are you doing here? Where's Emmett? Isn't he with OmniSphere Group? Dude's got a helicopter—he's letting you do this?"Malcolm's eyes flicked to the badge on my chest. Stone-cold.Lumi latched onto his

City Hall.Emmett gently wiped the corners of my teary eyes. "Babe, I'm not letting you lose anything else. That home's gone, so I'll give you a better one."He looked down, almost shy. Those eyes? Total puppy mode. "And we already said we'd get the marriage license..."My heart thudded. I tried to say something, but he kissed me first.Still dazed, we kissed on the steps. Dazed, we got in the car. Dazed, we signed the papers.Even holding the marriage certificate, it didn't feel real."We really just got married like that..."Emmett grabbed the certificate, snapped a ton of pics, and started humming as he posted them on Facebook. Dude was glowing. His mood was contagious—I finally let myself breathe. What I didn't see coming? Right after the paperwork, he drove me straight to his family's estate.Smack in the middle of a forest stood this insane mansion—like straight-up fairytale castle vibes.Even the fanciest places I saw back when I was still an Irving didn't come close.

The med team patched me up fast—wrapped my wrist, checked the bruises.Emmett stayed glued to my side. I finally asked, "Who... exactly are you?""OmniSphere's my family's company. I'm the heir."He said it like it was no big deal. I just stared.OmniSphere. One of the top ten global giants. But the way he looked at me—like he was the one hurting—I had to laugh. "I'm the one all banged up. Why do you look worse than me?"Emmett let out a breath. "Because it hurts seeing you like this."That softness—totally unexpected. He smiled. "I'm getting you the best doctors. You're gonna heal fast. But from now on, take care of yourself, alright?"My heart did a little flip. Still, I asked, "Yeah, but... why are you being so good to me?"Emmett looked off, kinda sheepish. "You probably don't remember. Eight years ago, I was a high school screw-up. My dad shipped me off to some bootcamp-style boarding school."Got jumped in an alley one night... you were the one who saved me. Called my

It was Emmett. He sprinted over, untied me fast, and caught me in his arms. "Stay with me, Irene. We need to get you to a doctor."His warmth hit me like a wave—I could finally breathe. But just as he carried me out, Malcolm stepped in the way."Move," Emmett snapped.Malcolm didn't budge. "Who said you could take her?"He flicked his hand. His guys swarmed, blindsiding Emmett's crew.Outnumbered, they went down fast.Still, Emmett didn't flinch. Didn't loosen his grip.Malcolm scoffed. "You're just a rookie off the plane. I only kept you around 'cause you were convenient. With your bloodline? You're not even good enough to shine my family's shoes. And now you think you're some white knight?"Lumi clung to her fake sweet act. "Irene, you barely know him. Why would he care unless you two were sneaking around BEFORE you ditched Malcolm?"She let out this over-the-top sigh. "How could you? Malcolm was heartbroken."Emmett's face went stone-cold."Say that again," Emmett said,

After I left the hospital, I crashed at a nearby hotel just to get through the night. My phone wouldn't stop buzzing—Malcolm, over and over.[Irene, where are you?][Why aren't you here yet?][Why the hell didn't you come?!]I barely looked before blocking him everywhere. Then I called movers to clear out the rest of my stuff from the Irving place. But the second I walked into my room, I froze.Total wreck.Everything was trashed—clothes shredded, stomped on, curtains yanked halfway off. Even worse? All my jewelry was gone.My stomach dropped as I tore through the mess."Irene, how do you still have the nerve to come back?" Lumi sneered behind me. "Didn't you run off with that trashy new husband of yours?"I didn't even flinch. I was done here. Just kept packing, silent. But of course, she wouldn't shut up. She eyed the wreckage and clicked her tongue. "Malcolm got me a puppy. We cleared out your room for my baby. Why's there still trash lying around?"So Malcolm helped tra
