LOGINGasps echoed across the open field of the Villa.
Kiara’s voice wasn't so low as she spoke, and the people standing nearby gave her astonishing looks.
As for Killian, he stared at her as if she'd gone crazy.
Raising an inquisitive brow, he grabbed her arm, his words even more insulting. “Have you lost it?”
“Yes!” She snapped back, not backing down from his sharp gaze, not cowering from his intimidating presence. “I lost it when I agreed to marry you. Now my mind is clear.”
“Quit it, Kiara-”
“No!” She snatched her arm away. “Maybe you should quit pretending as if nothing happened!”
Killian gave her a murderous look as if he'd killed her right there and then.
Veins popping on his neck, his eyes darted across their surroundings, to the people gathering around.
“Is this what you want?” He gritted out.
Well, Kiara wanted something more.
She wanted an apology and an explanation about what the hell was happening.
Killian looked ready to do none of that.
With one last glare in her direction, he turned and left the place,
Leaving her feeling more stupid and insignificant,
Rendering her feelings useless.
“Samantha, I think your daughter-in-law has really lost it. Why does she ask for a divorce from your son?”
“Isn't she like a servant to him, always worshiping him as if he's her god?”
“Who knows? She must have drunk a lot to drown her sorrows. This stupid girl will never be able to leave my son!” Samantha boasted. “Once she returns to her senses, she will apologize! Just wait and see!”
“Ha! Although she's the only heiress of the Storm Empire, her whole family relies on your son to survive!”
“What an ingrate to think that she can humiliate you and your son in public!”
“Leave her be! She's useless without Killian!”
Kiara didn't plan to ignore the vile women who spat venom in her face.
But Maya came in time to stop her from retorting.
With an alarming look on her face, she pulled Kiara away. “What just happened, Girl!? I only left you for a minute and you've done enough to set the media on fire!”
She took her inside the building, taking her straight upstairs. “Come on, Kiara. You've always been stronger than this. When did you start letting Samantha and her minions’ words affect you?”
Once they got inside her bedroom, Kiara didn't sit down.
While Maya spoke on, she strode into the walk-in closet and grabbed her luggage.
“Kiara, what are you doing!?” Maya exclaimed, hurrying after her.
What she was doing?
Something she should have done four or five years ago.
But Kiara never knew Killian and his family would be so cruel until this moment.
She never knew that she'd willingly let herself wander into the monsters’ den.
Killian never loved her. He never would.
Her husband had another family outside, while she'd been foolish, thinking he was the most hardworking man on earth.
“Kiara, speak to me!” Maya’s voice was getting frantic.
As she packed some clothes inside her luggage, a look of dread flashed in her best friend’s eyes.
Kiara didn't need to pack much.
Nothing in this home belonged to her anyway.
The only things that didn't deserve to be left behind were her baby’s belongings.
Her baby never deserved such a family. She never deserved such a father.
“Kiara, slow down and speak to me.” Maya grabbed her shoulders, halting her movements. “Please stop! You're scaring me right now.”
Kiara paused.
Closing her eyes, she took in a deep breath.
Where should she start from?
How was she going to tell Maya about what she saw at the hospital?
Wasn't she going to look like a fool?
Maya would only tell her that she knew it! Maya had always told her that she had a feeling Killian didn't like her.
But Kiara had been blinded by love. See what it cost her. See where it left her.
“You don't have to say anything…” Sighing heavily, Maya hugged her. “It's okay, Sweetie, I understand. If you want to leave this place, how about we go to my home? I'll bring you back later, okay?”
Kiara didn't plan to come back.
She never wanted to.
This home would only remind her of memories she now desperately wanted to forget.
Now that she could see clearly, those memories were more horrifying than nightmares.
Memories of witnessing her baby falling ill again and again.
Memories of staying up late at night at the dining table, praying Killian would return, hoping he would answer her phone calls.
If he wasn't on a business trip, he was always working late in his office.
During the weekends, he'd spend the whole day in his study room instead of spending time with his family.
Was she too cheap to be treated like trash?
Was her heart a toy that he could play with?
Kiara never knew she had made a mistake by declining her grandfather's advice to take a job at the company until now.
She should have made her life useful instead of dedicating it all to serving Killian.
“Let's get out of here, Dear. Before Samantha comes in with her friends.” Maya put the luggage aside and grabbed a shawl for her from the closet.
Kiara followed her out of the Villa.
So the paparazzi standing outside wouldn't recognize her, they took the back door of the Villa.
Maya had to stop a taxi that took them down to her home.
Throughout the ride, Kiara had been quiet.
Fighting to hold back her tears, she couldn't believe that a relationship she'd been so painstakingly building would collapse this way.
She'd always been hopeful for a better future with Killian.
She'd dreamt that someday his icy demeanor would melt and he'd transform into a warm, compassionate, and caring husband.
How ridiculous!
She wasn't the luckiest girl when they got married.
She was the unluckiest!
Maya's phone rang just in time as the taxi pulled over in front of her home.
She stared at her phone's screen, then she gave Kiara a confused look. “It's Killian. I think he knows we're together.”
Otherwise, Killian wouldn't call her best friend out of nowhere.
Kiara could ask Maya to reject it, but she'd already answered the phone, handing it to her.
“Who said you could leave home, Kiara?” Came the man's chilly voice, dripping with annoyance. “If you want a divorce, you can dream on.”
Seven Months LaterIf the best revenge was proving the enemies wrong by reaching heights they never expected, then the best satisfaction came with watching them devour each other. Justice, no matter how far it was or how long it took, would definitely be observed someday. In a way that no one would see coming. Aaron was already in a hot soup when the audio leaked and the scandal erupted, and Greg appeared at the perfect moment, shocked and angry by Aaron’s betrayal, to expose their crimes together. They’d bribed the company’s board, the witnesses, turning every evidence against Killian, marking his downfall. The media and the netizens were unforgiving, and when Cora stepped forward and further exposed Aaron’s schemes, it was enough evidence to convict him of deceiving the law and the people. Both he and Greg got what they deserved, for heartlessly destroying a man who had labored for so many years to keep an empire alive. If the law hadn’t necessitated it, Kiara wouldn’t have com
Glancing from Killian to her, Greg rose from the couch with a deadly expression. The same expression she’d last seen on his face before she passed out that day. Instinctively, Kiara hid behind Killian. “What were you saying, Alexander Storm?” Greg laughed, a mix of anger and amusement in his voice. “Your precious granddaughter just returned with the same man you claim she’s not dating in secret.”Alexander Storm…?“Are you out of your mind–”“Shut up!” Greg glared at her. “You’re really something, Kiara. All these months, you’ve been silent. It’s because you’re having a good time with your lover.”“Greg Stanton, I have called you here to clear the misunderstandings and not bully her further!” Her grandfather shouted. “So sit down and let’s discuss this like normal people.”“Stop pretending as if you know nothing about this.” Greg scoffed, grabbing his car keys from the table. “Since you’ve failed in teaching her morals, I’ll do the job.”“Don’t speak to my grandfather like that.” Ki
The automated voice from her phone echoed through the deafening silence in the parking lot. Aaron paused, a stunned look masking his face. Before he returned to his senses, Kiara quickly squatted, grabbed the phone, and pushed past him.But Aaron soon closed in and grabbed her. “You’re so smart, huh?” He grinned like a sadistic maniac, caging her in his arms. “This is one of the reasons why I like you.”Kiara wriggled. He held her too tightly, squeezing her in his arms. Then she kicked back, her heels hitting the target perfectly. Aaron groaned, stumbling a few steps backward. Still, his laughter echoed, and she soon found herself back in his arms, squeezing her tighter this time. “Aaron, stop it! Are you crazy?”“Only for you, My Love.” He was out of his mind. Aaron tried to snatch the device from her hand, and she spat in his eyes, using that opportunity to flee again. Kiara was limping this time. The pressure he’d applied to her stomach was overwhelming, causing a dull ache.
She turned swiftly, almost bumping into the man.Aaron was so close that to put a distance between them, she had to press her back against the car. Yet, he leaned closer, barely giving her any space to breathe. Her mind began racing with apprehension, the glint in his eyes making her uncomfortable. “W- What do you want?” she stammered, reaching inside her bag. No pepper spray. No. She’d forgotten it in her office. Only her phone was in the bag. “Is that a question, Kiara?” He placed his hands on the car, just beside her head, trapping her in between. “You, of course. I want you.”Kiara’s heart thudded. Despite the disgust filling her heart, she remained calm. “Mr. Anderson, I don’t understand you.”Aaron raised an amused brow. “Oh really?” He chuckled, leaning closer. “I thought I had given you enough signs. Come on, Kiara. Stop pretending as if you don’t know.”In the empty parking lot, they were the only people present. Kiara’s car was parked in a corner, and even if she scream
Was Greg even in this city? Was he in this universe at all? It had been four months in total since they last communicated. Since that day he’d told her through the housekeeper’s phone to abort the pregnancy. Kiara had swallowed her pride once. She’d used a strange number to contact him. But the phone had rang for a long time, and nobody answered it, leaving her more disturbed and confused. The more her grandfather’s suspicion grew, the bigger Kiara’s anxiety. But today, she made up her mind. To finally confront him. The shareholders’ meeting would be held today anyway, and she was going to leave the company early. During the meeting, Kiara did her best to concentrate. “Good morning, everyone. Thank you for making the time. I’ll get straight to it. We’ve officially closed Q3 with a 28% revenue increase, driven mostly by our expansion into the Middle East and Southeast Asia.”“That’s impressive!” Marcus Hale nodded. “Dubai’s response was phenomenal. They’re already requesting a
“You!” Kiara couldn’t believe him. Thinking he was finally going to satisfy her curiosity by telling her what was happening, he sent her to get water instead. But neither her grandfather nor Killian told her anything until the food was done and they were at the dining table.Kiara cleared her throat, staring at them both. Killian looked at her grandfather first, and when the old man nodded as if permitting him to speak, he finally turned to her. “I’m starting my own company.”“He could have gotten a nice job. Someone could hire him to lead their company because of his qualifications, but he’s very stubborn,” her grandfather complained. “He wants to begin from scratch.”“It’s not so bad.” Killian chuckled, transferring food into the old man’s plate. “Working under someone has taught me many lessons. Besides, I’m grateful for your contribution.”“Huh?” Kiara stared at them both. Right, she understood that Killian was starting his own company from scratch. Although she didn’t underst
