Would he?
Weren't her dreams becoming too wild recently?
Killian never said goodbye whenever he left.
His business trips could take days, weeks, or even months, but he never told her goodbye.
Kiara only always knew about his trips from his assistant.
Wasn't this dream an irony to her reality?
Wasn't Killian being too affectionate in this dream?
Was this a sign that better days were coming?
“Mommy…”
The tiny voice of a child gradually pulled her away from her sleep, bringing her back to reality… to the hospital’s ward.
Kiara fluttered her eyelids, rubbing the sleep off her eyes.
Opening her eyes to the sight of her daughter lying on the bed, she tried to force a smile, to look normal.
If only her heart was strong enough not to break each time at the sight of her baby looking so frail and pale.
“Hey, Baby…” She reached out to stroke her raven black hair, a stark resemblance to Killian's hair.
Having the same thick brows and thin lips, Lily could look exactly like her father if she didn't have Kiara’s oval face and round eyes.
“When's Daddy coming, Mommy?” She murmured, her lips pursing. “I miss Daddy.”
Kiara did too.
Strangely, Killian didn't answer her phone calls.
Ever since Lily's illness acted up and she was brought to the hospital three days ago, not an hour passed by without her trying to reach him on the phone.
The phone would ring until it stopped. However, he never called back.
“Baby, remember I told you that Daddy needs to work hard.” Kiara’s lips ached from faking a smile.
But she couldn't break down now. Not in their daughter's presence.
The last thing she wanted was her baby sensing something was off. She'd rather have her believe they were a perfect family.
“Daddy's currently busy and can't come home now.”
“You always said that, Mommy.” Lily sighed, gloom spreading across her face.
The glimmer in her eyes was long gone, and the more days that passed, the more her eyes dimmed. “Daddy doesn't need to make more money. I just wanna hug him.”
Her eyes watered up.
Kiara couldn't stand it.
She feared that if she spent another minute here, she'd break down from seeing her daughter in this state.
Sometimes, she hated herself, and sometimes, she hated him.
But Killian had been very busy ever since his father passed away a year ago and he had to assume the president’s position of RK Business Empire.
He'd made her know that he wouldn't have time for them.
She couldn't be any more understanding.
“It's okay, Mommy…” Just like hers, her daughter's smile was broken and weak. “I know Daddy loves me. When he comes back, I'll tell him that I love him too.”
Kiara chuckled.
Who was she kidding?
Lily was only three years old but with an IQ of a genius.
She was only deluding herself, thinking her baby didn't know what was going on.
Her sad smile revealed it all.
Unable to hold back her tears, Kiara leaned forward to kiss her on the forehead. Then her baby whispered, “I love you too, Mommy. I love you and Daddy.”
“Mmm.” Kiara choked on her words. “We both love you, Baby.”
But she couldn't remain sitting there.
Fearing she'd get too emotional again, she left the ward, looking for the nearest washroom.
She could use the bathroom inside the ward, but then, her baby would hear her cry and that would only break her already weak heart further.
“Mrs. Reid, are you alright?” She bumped into the nurse on her way, almost crashing into the medication cart.
Kiara stood up straight, composing herself. “I- I'm fine.”
“I'm about to change Lily's drip-”
“Please go ahead, I'll be right back.” She cut the nurse, hurrying in the opposite direction.
She didn't need to go far. She wasn't supposed to cry.
Her daughter needed her by her side,
But,
If only Killian could answer her calls.
If only he could spare a minute to at least speak with his daughter on the phone.
For a three-year-old, she was already going through a lot. Funny how the little girl always preferred her Daddy's company.
Leaning against the wall in the hallway that led to the washroom, Kiara dialed his number again.
The phone rang as usual. He didn't answer.
She tried three more times. Killian didn't answer the phone.
Who else could she reach out to?
Even his assistant’s line was switched off.
Slowly, a foreboding feeling rose in her heart.
What if something bad had happened to him? Was that why he didn't answer his phone?
However, she had to be positive.
If anything went wrong with his trip, it would have been broadcast on the media by now.
Shoving those horrible thoughts aside, Kiara pulled herself together and walked away.
She hadn't taken three steps yet when the corner of her eye caught sight of a familiar figure.
Was that Killian?
The tall figure that just strode out of the elevator was definitely her husband.
She couldn't see his face properly because his back was to her, but that dominant aura screamed of his presence.
He appeared to be in a rush.
Was he coming for them- for Lily? Did he hear about her illness?
Weird though.
Killian was going in the opposite direction, his footsteps hasty.
Kiara called out his name but he didn't seem to hear her.
Their daughter’s ward was in a different hallway. Was he given the wrong room number?
Her heart coming back alive with the hope that Lily would soon smile again, Kiara hurried after him.
By the time she caught up with him, she was already gasping for breath.
He was so fast! Was he so worried about their daughter?
“Killian-”
“Killian.”
She trailed off because someone else called out his name at the same time she did.
A young lady came out of the ward he stopped at, running straight into his arms. “What took you so long?”
“Why did you bring him here?” His deep voice had an irritated tone to it. “I told you not to bring him here.”
“I had no choice, Killian, please don't blame me!” The lady sobbed. “This is the best Children’s Hospital in the country. Do you want us to lose him?”
When Kiara regained her senses, a white ceiling loomed above her, and her eyes wandered across the room. Sigh! She was in the hospital. She wasn’t even surprised. She tried to sit up, however, her head began spinning. The dizziness had clearly not gone away. For how long had she been here, though? From the cool air flowing through the window and the bright sky outside, it appeared it was the early hours of the morning. But she’d lost consciousness in the afternoon during the party. She hadn’t passed out for days, had she?No way!“You’re finally awake.” The door opened, and on stepping into the ward, Greg looked exhausted but relieved. He sat on the chair beside her. “How are you feeling now?”“Hungry.” Kiara rubbed her stomach. Apart from the dizziness, there was an extreme hunger inside her stomach. “What day is it?”“Sunday,” Greg replied. Which meant she’d been unconscious for two days straight. She passed out on Friday, the day they were launching the new company. Kiara could
…“You are very competent, Boss. You’ve just achieved what a lot of people wouldn’t be able to in years! Congratulations!”“That’s right, Ms. Storm. We’re very proud of you. Because of your hard work, our company has become formidable.”“Who dares mess with The Storm Empire now that the company is expanding? And it’s all thanks to our Boss’s strong fighting spirit!”Kiara laughed. Weren’t her employees exaggerating too much? She just managed to finish the toughest project ever. Finally, she was free from Aaron’s dungeon. But staring at the great result from it, she didn’t regret a single moment.Although it wasn’t an enormous skyscraper with hundreds of floors, the new company was their own and she was very proud of it.With the Storm Empire venturing into more fields, each section needed a company space of its own, and they now had enough room just for that. An entire building with a huge logo at the top. ‘The Storm Empire’ was definitely back. Kiara entered inside along with the
His medications didn’t work. How could a simple warm milk be able to cure his insomnia? Killian stared at her, his eyes scanning the thing she wore. It wouldn’t even be called a nightdress, and the most fitting term for it was lingerie. “What’s the meaning of this?” He whispered, giving her a deadly look. “Did you go to the kitchen in this? Did the servants or the bodyguards see you?”If any of them saw her in this skimpy dress that not only exposed her full cleavage, but also left no little thing to the imagination, then Killian’s reputation was ruined. Was she out of her mind?“Don’t worry, Honey… Nobody else apart from you saw me in this. The servants have all gone to their quarters, and the bodyguards are outside.” Sophia gave him a silly smile, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Every gesture she made was so provocative and Killian forced himself to look away. “Go and change into something appropriate. Never walk around in this again.”“Aren’t you gonna take the milk?”
…Killian’s eyes didn’t stop following her back until her figure disappeared behind the glass doors. What was Kiara doing here? Wasn’t she supposed to be out of the city, in fact? And what was she doing with Greg Stanton at this time of the evening, and even in this kind of place? Why was she dressed like that?“Please don’t believe her, Honey. You know the kind of person my Stepsis is.” Sophia pulled his attention. “She’s only trying to sow discord between us.”“Of course, Killian will not believe her.” His mother chipped in, still looking furious. “That stupid girl accused me of encouraging Sophia to harm you. It doesn't make sense. Will I ever consider harming my own son?”Killian wiped his face. His attention was not even on what the women were saying. The questions inside his mind right now were all about her. He’d heard rumors that Aaron was overworking her, pushing her to her limits. He’d heard that she could give up anytime soon. Killian had also heard that the Anderson Gr
Kiara could not argue it. Her muscles were still stiff and her bones were literally cracking inside. If Greg hadn’t brought it up, she wouldn’t have considered it. However, her body really needed a full massage. At The Spa.Kiara couldn’t remember the last time she received such treatment. The massage lasted for thirty minutes, she had even dozed off in the process. But she wasn’t just here for the massage. Turned out Greg had already booked this for her in advance. She went through a lot of skincare treatments, from her head down to her toes. While her toenails were being trimmed and polished, Kiara glanced at the time. It had been more than an hour. Greg should have gone somewhere to kill time. He definitely wasn’t waiting outside for her to finish. “Hmmm. It hasn’t been easy, Mom… I’ve tried many ways to get him to at least sleep on the same bed with me. He always makes excuses about work.”“Have you used that substance I gave you?”“W-Well, I wanted to, but…”“But what? You
What did he mean by going back to the construction site she had recently returned from and demolishing the resort to build a new one because he suddenly had a better idea?Did it make sense a bit?Staring at the text message on her phone, Kiara grappled with anger and frustration. Honestly, she was beginning to think that Aaron was crazy. That resort had cost him millions to build. And now he wanted it to be demolished, and she had to go back and start the work all over again? She shouldn’t have agreed to the term in the contract that allowed Aaron to give her instructions however he wanted. She shouldn’t have given him the liberty to boss her around. Kiara had overlooked that term, thinking Aaron was so cool to consider placing pressure on her. Nah! She was wrong. That man was a sadistic maniac!“Urgh!”She just came back for goodness’ sake. Kiara hadn’t even felt the warmth of her bed. “You don’t have to continue with that shit, Kiara!” Maya was standing behind her, massaging he
