Kaleb's povI stared at the ingredients on the countertop, my arms folded as I glared. I blinked and some flour dusted off my lashes and fall to the floor. I pressed my lips into a frown. I had everything to make the perfect red velvet cake for my girl's birthday tomorrow. Red velvet cake was Bailey's favorite and I wanted to bake her it myself. Unfortunately mom didn't bless me with a baker's hands and I was failing miserably. This was my third batch of batter and I mistakenly added too much salt in this one. Kaleb's pov " Kaleb." A soft touch to my face made me twitch away, wiggling my nose when something tickled the tip. I swatted it away and let out a loud dragged out yawn. My body was exhausted and my lids were way too heavy to bother fluttered open to see who's trying to wake me up. "Honey, wake up." The voice is soft and very close. Mom. " Just five more minutes." I whined drowsily. Her next words made my eyes to snap open as though I was just bit by a snake. " Today is Bailey's birthday. Aren't you going to show her what you did for her?" As I straightened my spine and blinked to adjust my blurry vision, I looked down at the countertop and realize I had fallen asleep in the kitchen. I winced, lifting my hand to the back of my neck, rubbing away the ache. Shit this is going to hurt for days. " What time is it?" I asked, a yawn cutting in halfway through my question. I rubbed my eyes and run them over the kitchen space. Everywhere was filthy with ingredients scattered around.

Kaleb's povI rush down the stairs, taking three at a time as I hurriedly make my way to the front door. With my hands clutching the handle, I swing it open and freeze when mom's voice catches my attention. " Have you forgotten the cake?" I twist around, a cringe on my face as I stared at her sheepishly. She shakes her head and walks over with the cake in her hand. She passes it over. " I made sure to wrap it good so the icing won't mess up your seats." I sent her a grateful smile. " Think she'll like it?" Mom grinned, patting my head lovingly. " I think she will love it." she then nudged me lightly. " Now off you go, you have to set up remember?" I nodded quickly, about to thank her again when rapid footsteps rush down the stairs. Bailey's pov" Bailey?" Dad called my name to grasp my attention. With my arms folded and my gaze still outlooking the buildings we pass, I hummed in response. I can hear dad's loud sigh and felt his eyes to shift me for a split second. " You've been in a slump since morning. Is everything okay?" He wasn't wrong; I have been in a slump. Today is my birthday and I shouldn't have been. But waking up to no text from Kaleb distressing.
