Chapter 2

Author: Yes to Tacos
Word that I had dumped Luke spread through campus like wildfire. Overnight, I became the villain in everyone's story—heartless, ungrateful, and playing the love game for sport.

No matter where I went, I could feel the stares on my back and hear the whispers trailing after me.

"She's the one who dumped Luke."

"I heard she was just using Luke until something better came along. She probably found some rich guy."

"Wow… never thought she had it in her. She always seemed so quiet, but she's got a scheming streak a mile wide."

I couldn't have cared less. Compared to the electric shocks and restraints I had endured in the psych ward in my last life, these rumors were nothing. They were child's play compared to what I had been through.

For the past two days, Sarah wouldn't leave me alone, constantly pushing me to get back with Luke.

Every word out of her mouth was loaded with how miserable he was without me, how much he still needed me.

"Nat, Luke hasn't eaten for two days. He's lost so much weight. You can't just let him waste away like this."

She took my hand, her voice dripping with sincerity. "You guys were everyone's couple goals. Don't let a little fight ruin that."

I pulled my hand free and met her gaze, taking in the fake sweetness in her eyes. It was almost funny. I said evenly, "If you really care so much about him, why not go date him yourself?"

Her smile faltered for half a second before snapping back into place. She explained, "I'm doing this for you. I'm your best friend. I can't just stand by and watch you screw this up."

"Oh, really?" I gave her a dry little laugh before continuing, "Well, thanks for the unsolicited advice."

I left her standing there and headed straight for the basketball courts.

One figure immediately caught my eye. He was tall, pale enough that his storm-colored eyes seemed to draw anyone in and hold them there. A small mark beneath one added an edge that made him hard to look away from.

He wasn't playing—just leaning lazily against the hoop, like he had all the time in the world. The space around him was completely empty, as if everyone knew better than to get too close.

The guy was Ethan Grant—old money, had a bad temper, and had moods that could turn on a dime. He had trouble written all over him. In my last life, I had heard the rumors—one young lady dated him for less than a month before she transferred to another school just to get away.

I took a deep breath, walked across the court, and stopped right in front of him. He seemed to sense someone watching him and lifted his gaze, slow and lazy. His eyes locked on me—cool, appraising, with just a hint of impatience.

"What do you want?" he asked me. His voice was just like him—cold and distant.

I met his gaze head-on and said, each word deliberate, "I broke up with Luke. Now, I'm saying yes to being your girlfriend."

The words hung in the air, and for a moment, Ethan just stared at me. He was caught off guard. He straightened slowly, towering over me, a teasing smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

"Last time when I was pursuing you, didn't you say you and Luke were madly in love? What, so now you're ready to let him go?"

Ethan's words pulled me back to the years I had spent with Luke. Back then, we were really in love. But that was before Sarah stole it all away.

I kept my voice steady. "If you're not interested, then forget it."

I was just about to turn away when he let out a low, quiet laugh. "Of course, I am."

Before I could react, Ethan closed the distance and gave me a kiss.

The deaths of Ethan and Sarah sent shockwaves through campus. The Grant family moved fast, pulling strings to smother the story before it got too far.The news barely touched it—just a vague blurb about "a domestic dispute that turned tragic." But on the campus forum, the gossip never stopped. Rumors spread like wildfire."Can you believe it? Ethan was that kind of guy? One wrong word, and he pulls a knife?""I heard Sarah cheated on him—that's what sent him over the edge.""No way. Word is, Ethan had mental issues from the start. Sarah was just an innocent victim."It didn't take long for the conversation to turn toward me."Didn't Ethan date Natasha before Sarah? Why'd he only go psycho with Sarah?""Simple—he didn't love Natasha enough. Guys only lose it like that when they truly love someone.""Nah, Sarah just had more… Pull. Driving a guy crazy is a skill in itself.""Agreed. Natasha is too soft. Sarah knows how to play the game."I scrolled through the comments without

Sirens tore through the quiet campus—police, then an ambulance, their wails slicing the air. Yellow tape went up fast around the scene. Paramedics rushed in with stretchers. However, it was already too late. By the time they arrived, Ethan and Sarah were long past saving. As the only witness, the police escorted me into a squad car to take my statement. Through the window, I spotted Luke pushing through the crowd, his face etched with worry. He tried to get to me, but an officer blocked him. He caught my eye and mouthed, "Don't be afraid."I met his gaze without a flicker of emotion and then looked away. At the station, I calmly and objectively recounted everything I'd seen.Of course, I left out anything about the app and my past life. I kept it simple—Sarah couldn't handle Ethan's controlling nature, tried to leave him, and that pushed him over the edge. What I said made perfect sense. And with the victim image I'd carried at school, the police had no reason to doubt me. When I

The way Ethan suddenly appeared was like turning a key—Sarah's emotions burst wide open. She shot up from the floor, ducked behind me, and jabbed a finger at Ethan as she let out a hysterical scream."Stay away from me! You're insane! Don't come any closer!"Ethan's face darkened instantly. He didn't even glance at me—his full attention was locked on Sarah. The fury in his eyes slowly faded, replaced by something raw and wounded."Sarah…" His voice softened, almost pleading, as he reached a hand toward her. "Come home with me, okay? Let's stop fighting.""Go home with you?" Her voice cracked into a bitter laugh. Then, she exploded. "I'm not going anywhere with you! You make me sick!"Her words were like blades, cutting through him. He swayed, the color draining from his face. For the first time, the affection in his eyes gave way to pure despair."Why…?" he murmured, like he couldn't comprehend how the girl he'd put on a pedestal could turn on him."I loved you so much. I gave

After the cafe incident, Sarah didn't show up to class for days. When I finally saw her again, it was almost a week later in one of our core subject classes. She looked like she'd been dragged through hell. The heavy makeup couldn't hide the dark circles under her eyes. A chunky bracelet hung on her wrist, but it didn't completely cover the purple bruises underneath. She wasn't strutting around like she used to. She was quieter now, skittish, always keeping her distance from people. Her eyes darted around, as if she were expecting something to leap out at her. After class, she did something she'd never done before. She came straight to me, pulling me into an empty corner."Nat!" Her grip on my hand trembled as she choked, "Please… Please get back together with Ethan."I arched a brow, pretending to be surprised. "Why? I thought you two were doing great. Looked to me like he treated you well.""He treated me well?" She gave a sharp, almost hysterical laugh. "He's a lunatic! A comp

"I'm Sarah—Nat's best friend," Sarah cooed, stepping inside like she owned the place. "She just left you here all alone. I couldn't bear it, so I stayed to take care of you."Ethan said nothing. The sounds thickened with intimacy until they blurred into something raw and indecent.I'd heard enough. I turned away and walked out of that filthy little scene.Sarah, I hope you enjoy this gift I've given you. From that day on, Sarah and Ethan were inseparable. They were everywhere on campus, always side by side, like they were glued together.Sarah looked as if she had reset her whole life. Overnight, her entire wardrobe was brand-new and designer. She had a limited-edition bag on her arm and a diamond necklace I'd only ever seen in magazines sparkling at her throat. She wasn't the broke girl who used to hesitate over a cup of coffee anymore. No—she'd transformed into a glittering heiress, and she didn't even bother to hide it.In the cafeteria, she'd lift her wrist just so, making s

The private room was just me and Ethan now. He was definitely drunk—his eyes were cloudy, that pale, almost sickly face flushed an unnatural shade of red.Step by step, he closed the space between us, murmuring my name."Nat, you're mine. Only mine."He tried to force himself on me, but I kept myself calm. The moment his lips were about to crash down on mine, I didn't flinch. Instead, I lifted my hand and struck hard against the back of his neck. Ethan's tall frame went slack, collapsing to the floor and out cold.I stood there, breathing hard, staring down at him without a shred of pity. The night stretched on. I sank onto the couch, silently watching him sleep on the floor.Lately, I've been drowning in the love pouring off Ethan. It was a hundred, a thousand times more intense than Luke's ever was—like invisible chains winding around me, suffocating me.In my last life, I'd felt Luke's love sour into hate once Sarah stole it away from me. That was in a psych ward, and it wa
