I lean back, the chill coming from the stone wall making me shiver. I tried to get them to talk to me, to tell me what we did, but Beta Lee wouldn't be moved. I let out a sigh and let my head drop.
What happened? How did I end up here? I know neither my mom nor I have ever done anything against this pack or Alpha Dean.
I've grown up in the Brutalmaw Pack with my mom and dad. Dad died a few years ago, and Mom took it pretty hard. We've both been working to stay afloat. Without Dad, things have been harder, but we have been making it work.
I'm really worried about Mom right now. She hasn't been the same since Dad died, and I'm afraid of what this would do to her. I let out a sigh, trying to make a plan. Maybe I can get an audience with the Beta and explain that he's made a mistake.
A cough hits the air from the cell next to me. I hurry to my feet and rush over to the opposite stone wall. I wish the wall were made of bars instead of stone, but I'm not that lucky. “Mom? Mom, are you okay?” There's no answer, but I can hear her uneven breathing. I rush over to the cell bars and shake them until they rattle. “Help! Someone, please! My mom needs help!” I shake the bars again, but no one responds. I slide down to the floor, lost and scared.
“It's okay, baby. I… I will be okay." That's the lie, though. Mom won't be okay. I have no idea how long she can sit here like this.

I have no idea how long I've been down here. There’s no light, so I can't follow the passage of time. I can't go by the meals because I'm sure that we aren't getting fed regularly. All I can do is listen to my mom's breathing and hope that she can survive this place.
Footsteps sound in the hallway and get closer to my cell. I look up and see familiar work boots. I pop up and scramble toward the cell bars. “Ross?” I look up and find him looking down on me. His face is carefully neutral, which makes me nervous.
“Samiah, are… are you okay?” I sit back on my heels and look around my cell.
“I'm alive.” Silence envelops us. “How long have I been gone?” Ross looks away, and that makes my stomach clench.
“It's been about 2 weeks. They… they wouldn't let me see you. I had to beg, and they finally said yes.” His words settle over me, and I feel the tears gathering. I've been doing well, not letting my emotions take over. Now I learn that I've been sitting here for 2 weeks, and they weren't allowing anyone to visit.
I let out a shaky breath, hoping my voice stays steady. “I didn't do anything, Ross. I swear I didn't do anything.” Ross lets out a long sigh.
“I know, babygirl. I know you would never do what they are accusing you of. I don't know why you're here or how long it will be, but I swear I will help you both get out of here.” I nod, struggling even more to hold my emotions in.
“Time's up!” I swallow and try to smile. Ross reaches in and pats my arm before walking away. I scramble to my feet and shuffle to the cot. I won't cry; I refuse to cry.
~Kemarion~
It's been a month, and I hate that I've been struggling. I don’t understand why I’m struggling since that night; she was locked away. Don't get me wrong, I don’t regret my choices. I did what needed to be done, and I'd do it again. She wasn’t of age.
So! What does that have to do with anything, Sid? He sighs in my mind, and I roll my eyes. He doesn’t respond, and I don’t push him.
It’s been a bit helpful that I’m back at school and don’t have to deal with her directly, but I’m still feeling something, and I don’t understand why. It isn’t serious enough that everyone can tell, but I can feel the difference, and I don’t like it. The rejection should have ended everything, but I’m still dealing with the fallout.
I sigh and let my head drop back. Dean and I had been studying before he got up and left. I think he had to see about a she-wolf, but it isn’t for me to speculate. Without notice, I feel delicate fingers on my temple, gently moving in a circular motion. I can’t stop the smile that grows on my face, but I’m also confused. How the hell did Destini get in here without me noticing? “Why are you stressing yourself so much? We are almost done here. I doubt there’s anything you can do that will mess things up.” I grab her wrist and gently pull her around me until she can sit on my lap.
Destini is so beautiful; I still wonder how it is that I got her. She’s an Alpha’s daughter and shouldn’t even be concerned with a lowly Beta like me. Destini is toned, but that’s to be expected due to her upbringing. She’s been training as long as I have, though she doesn’t train as hard. We’ve sparred a few times, and she can give me a run for my money for sure.
She has long, muscular legs, which she always has exposed in short skirts and dresses. I love how men look at her legs while she’s walking with me. They look desperate, and I know they hate me. It gives my ego a boost. Add to that the fact that Destini has deep chocolate skin, Goddess.
I will say that her behind isn’t as big, but it's enough to keep my interest. She has a decent-sized chest, which I also love to grab. Destini keeps her makeup light, usually skin tone. She wears long lashes, and her face is slim. She wears her hair in sisterlocks, and they flow slightly past her shoulders. My woman is the definition of beauty, and I know that I’m a lucky bastard to have her.
I place my hand on her knees and slowly let my hand slide up her thigh. Destini’s sharp intake of breath is music to my ears. I love how I make her feel, and I love when she makes her feelings known. “What are you doing, baby?” I let my hand continue to travel upward, looking to get to that warm peak. Destini and I haven’t had sex yet, but that’s her choice. She wanted to wait until we got out of school. She didn’t want to risk getting pregnant. She isn’t a virgin, but she said she wanted to do this right because she’s serious about us.
Destini and I have done some oral, and we’ve done other things. I’m only slightly frustrated, but I’m managing it. The moment I can have her, completely, I fully plan to place my mark on her neck. School’s almost out, and when it is, I will be making her mine. “I think you know what I’m doing. Doesn’t it feel good?” I can feel the heat from her center, and I just know she’s dripping wet. Before I can find out, my room door opens, and Dean walks in. He walks toward us with a smirk on his face. I roll my eyes and move my hand back.
“I’m hungry, guys. Let’s go get some food.” I kiss Destini’s cheek, and she chuckles. She stands up, and I follow behind her, discreetly rearranging my package. We will have to deal with that later.
I slowly walk across the field, heading to the packhouse. I have a meeting with Alpha Dean, my father, Lee, and my best friend. I sigh as I move toward the packhouse. I’m trying to figure out the best way to handle this situation with Samiah. Should I announce her as my mate now, or should I wait to do that?Sid has been unusually quiet since we went down to see her. He’s been at the forefront of my mind, but he hasn’t said a word. I don’t know what to do with that, so I left it where it was. I see Ross up ahead, coming out of the packhouse.Ross runs the local mechanic shop that we have for the pack. I know that he’s close with Samiah and has been teaching her the trade. It’s crazy to think of a Beta’s mate having a job outside of the packhouse. It’s even crazier for that job to be in a mechanic’s shop. It would be different if she were a receptionist or secretary, but that isn’t what Samiah’s been doing. I won’t allow my mate to do the job of a man while she’s standing by my side. “
~Samiah~I don’t know how long has passed since my 18th birthday. I’ve been feeling less lonely with Rae to talk to me. I’m still seriously worried about my mom. She sounds weaker, and the coughing continues. I’ve been worried that they would find out that I had my wolf and move me to a silver-lined cell. I didn’t want that to happen because then I’d be alone again. Thankfully, they didn’t pay me too much attention, and Rae found some way to keep her presence hidden. I don’t really understand it myself. I chalk it up to the fact that I haven’t been able to shift yet. I’ve been locked up for months. I’ve turned eighteen while being locked up. I haven’t shifted. My mom is sick, and I can’t help her. All of this is because Kemarion handed his father something that said my mom and I were criminals, even though neither of us has ever done anything against pack laws. I let out a sigh and let my head lean back against the grimy stone wall. Everything will be okay, Samiah. We will get out o
My sleep wasn’t restful, but under the circumstances, how could it have been? I made choices in my life that would put me in a better position than I was born into. I was born of Beta blood and set to take over the better position at my pack. I moved myself to have the opportunity to become more possible. It isn’t so much that I’m looking for an upgrade. I’m perfectly happy with the position I was born into. I really can’t turn down the opportunity that presented itself. Destini is an amazing shewolf, and taking this step with her is a no-brainer. While we weren’t destined to lead her pack, it’s more likely than not because her brother is so young. Now here I am, wondering what my future looks like. Destini met her fate mate and ran off with him without so much as an explanation. My heart hurt watching her w
~Kemarion~It’s been five months since everything. Five months since I’ve come across my fated mate and realized how ill-suited she was to my position. Five months since I had her sent to the cells to keep her away from my life.I could say that I’m fine. I could say that I never think of her, but that would be a lie. I stand by my decision regardless of how I feel sometimes. I did what needed to be done.Destini and I finished school, along with Dean. He and I will be taking over soon. Destini will be coming to our territory so she can get to know the people and the area. She will be the Beta female after all.Unfortunately for me, her dad wouldn’t agree to letting her take over. Her older brother is showing promise, so he wants
~Samiah~There are voices not too far from me, but there are always voices. The warriors come and go, performing their duties, and I’m just here. I’m just sitting here wondering if I will ever be able to get out. Wondering if my mom will survive this. The pack doctor has been out here a few times to check on my mom. I have no idea what’s wrong with her because she’s not allowed to talk to me about her health. I can only watch her come and go and hope that everything is getting better. I know it isn’t because my mom still sounds the same way she did when we were first put here. There are feet shuffling and fabric rustling. “I still don’t get it. How did they end up here?” I perk up at the words that I hear. They are talking about us, and I’m interested. I’ve been trying to find out what landed my mom and me here, but no one will tell me. The only thing I heard was the night we were pulled from the house. Nothing else has been said. “I don’t have details. I only know that Kemarion is
