Adele~

I stared at this man, whom I'd love to strangle. He was laid back, one hand draping casually on the back of my chair, the other drumming the table in a slow, maddening pattern.

“As much as my body can bear,” I said through a smile that didn't reach my eyes. I picked up the glass before me, sipping the wine to hide the sharp curve of my lips.

Oh Detroit, just watch how I make you suffer after this.

He hummed, eyes on me like a man cataloguing a treasure. “The first branch is the smallest in the family. Can your body bear…” he paused, as if tasting the word, “...let's say…fifteen?”

I choked.

“Fifteen?” The word lodged in my throat like a grape. I coughed, waved my hand in front of my face like that would make it reasonable. “Fifteen? Are you trying to recreate the population of a hamlet or what?”

His lips curled into what looked like a ghost smile. “If we’re going to rebuild the first branch, we do it properly.”

I made a face so scandalized my eyes were probably

  • Betrayed By Husband And Son: Rise Of A Billionaire Wife    The Fear Of His Wife

Detroit~Detroit’s expression hardened at the mention of that name.He didn’t answer at first. The silence stretched long enough that even the hum of the machines seemed to fade, leaving Silver wondering if she’d crossed a line. When he finally spoke, his voice was quiet. Too quiet. “She’s not here.”Silver tilted her head. “You won’t make her a clone of herself?”“No,” he said. “She will not be cloned.”Her brows knitted. Her fingers tightened around the fabric of his coat. “Why not? If you’re rewriting bad people, then Mia should be top of the list.”His jaw flexed. His gaze never left the man lying unconscious beyond the glass.“Because some faces,” he said slowly, “were never meant to be seen twice.”Silver blinked up at him, confused. “Isn’t Alistair’s face as ugly as Mia’s? I don’t want to see his face twice either, and I’m sure Mommy wouldn’t want to.”Detroit looked down at her. He didn’t know what to do with this daughter of his. She was too sharp for her own good. “He has b

**Trigger warning: This chapter is a little dark. My faint heart is trembling already. So, please, read with caution. ... Detroit~Father and daughter arrived at the research facility in a helicopter. The guards lined up instantly upon their arrival, forming two neat rows. Their hands pressed to their sides, eyes locked in the air, like they were watching something interesting. Detroit descended first, his coat flaring behind him as the wind caught it. Then, he turned and extended a gloved hand to his daughter. She didn't hesitate. She gave him her hand as she climbed down. One small, one big. Their faces identical, like they were carved from the same ice. Only that Detroit's was sharper. They walked hand in hand towards the glass building ahead. The sign above the building read:WEST INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED MEDICAL AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT.The letters shone silver under the afternoon sun. The entire building was glass and steel — modern, silent, and intimidating.Detroit’s shoes c

  • Betrayed By Husband And Son: Rise Of A Billionaire Wife    Pouring Her Heart Out

Detroit~Detroit’s jaw flexed. He hated how smart she was. Too much of him lived in her.He looked forward again, the city lights brushing shadows across his face. “Because life isn’t always kind, Silver,” he said quietly. “And because… sometimes, men like me don’t get to live very long.”Her small hand instantly found his, squeezing it with a force that startled him. “Is this because of Grandma?”Detroit blinked, unsure what she meant. Silver locked eyes with him. She might be small, too young, but she knew more than many adults do. “Is your heart aching because of Grandmother?” she began. “I know you don't hate Grandmother, that's why you're hurting when you hurt her. And it's why you're telling me not to hate Adele when she hurts me in the future, because you're carrying the pain more when you hurt Grandmother. And you don't want me to carry that burden.” Detroit's lips parted. He was shocked. She was not even eight years old, but already could tell what many couldn't. She was h

  • Betrayed By Husband And Son: Rise Of A Billionaire Wife    Father And Daughter

Detroit~Just as Mathew was to Madam Helena, so were Elijah, Elias, and Gaya to Detroit— the kind of people you didn’t replace, only protected. Their loyalty was bound to them by years of blood and shared sin.And that was exactly how Evelyn was to his mother.Lorraine West had never had many she trusted. She was proud, calculating, and too sharp for most to stand beside. But Evelyn had been there from the start. Evelyn was given to her as a child assistant, by her late husband, Moore. Lorraine watched her grow and molded her into the kind of assistant she wanted. So, that girl was more than just an assistant. She was family. And Detroit knew it.Which was why, even though Evelyn deserved to have her wrist sliced off for slapping his wife, he didn't do so. He wouldn't let her die either, but he'd punish her enough to tear into his mother's heart. That woman needed to understand the meaning of, ‘don't touch my family’. … Silver’s gaze was locked on her father as she watched him res

  • Betrayed By Husband And Son: Rise Of A Billionaire Wife    Dizzy From Shock

Detroit~He was beyond proud of his wife.He didn’t expect her to be so fearless under the scrutiny, the subtle disdain, and the silent hostility that hung in the air like smoke. He’d thought she’d shrink or stammer, maybe glance at him for help the moment the questioning got too sharp. But she didn’t.She stood her ground — chin high, words clear, eyes unwavering. And it was rare for Detroit West to be impressed by anyone, much less surprised. But Adele managed both.He stayed even after his grandmother and mother had left, waiting until the rest of the elders began trickling out before he finally stood. He took Adele’s hand with one hand, Silver’s with the other, and led his family out of the hall in dignified silence, under his cousins and younger family members’ watchful eyes. His meaning couldn't be any more clearer — he loved his wife and daughter. By the time they returned to Detroit's suite, Adele barely had the energy to kick off her heels. She was exhausted from all the tr

While the Wests were having their welcome to the family ceremony, Harrington mansion stood shrouded in gloom. A silence so heavy it could suffocate. In the center of the long mahogany table sat Denver Harrington, his once-steady hands clasped on the cane before him. Around him, the important family members sat quietly, too scared or ashamed to speak. At the far end sat Aunt Sonia Harrington. Her face was pale, drawn, eyes swollen from sleepless night and distant. She was still wearing her dress from yesterday. It was rumpled, her hair was messy and disheveled — a sight no one in this family had ever dared to witness. The woman who once commanded rooms with her icy elegance now looked like a shell. “What happened yesterday was a shame, humiliation, and disgrace the Harringtons have never had to experience since time immemorial,” one of the older family members said, tone harsh and displeased. “Not only did Sonia raise a bastard, she switched her with the family's heiress, connived wit
