Adele~

This can’t be real, even if it was.

My fingers fumbled for my phone like it was the only lifeline left in the world. I dialed his number with shaking hands, each ring pounding against my skull like a drum.

It rang once. Twice. Three times—

And then his voice, smooth and deep, spilled through the line. “Adele.”

He said my name like it belonged to him. Like it had always belonged to him.

My throat locked. Words jammed somewhere between my chest and my mouth. All I could manage was a shaky exhale.

“Adele…?” he repeated, softer this time. The way one might coax a frightened bird closer to the palm of their hand.

I swallowed hard. My pulse was sprinting, tripping, falling all over itself.

“What… what is this?” I whispered, staring at the black card, the scattered documents, the ring…everything, like they might bite me.

Silence.

A silence long enough to stretch across the earth, across galaxies, only to fold in on itself, consumed us, before he finally answered like it was the most

Ryan~What could be more painful than having millions of words to say but can't utter a single coherent sentence? This bastard wasn’t supposed to be breathing. He wasn’t supposed to be here, in his child's ward, kissing, touching, and holding Adele like she belonged to him. Ryan had paid good money to have him killed. Yet here he was, arrogantly staring at him, while Ryan was the one strapped in a damn wheelchair like some helpless invalid. And to think the wild man turned him into this expired vegetable. The fury burned hotter than the fire in his lungs. His fingers shook on the armrest, curling, digging hard enough that his nails tore half-moons into his palm. His throat tried to shape words, but only broken sounds crawled out. He was officially useless and pathetic. He wanted to roar, to curse, to drag Adele away from that man's arms, especially as he continuously rubbed and groped her curvy backside, but his body betrayed him at every turn. And Adele—God, Adele. The look in her

Adele~Thankfully, the surgery was successful. Director Lin said Ethan would most likely wake up tomorrow morning, otherwise, the swelling in his brain might delay consciousness for a little longer. I clung to his every word, repeating them inside my head like a mantra, trying to drown out the suffocating fear that still lingered in my chest.I stood by the bed, watching the gentle rise and fall of Ethan’s chest. He looked so small, so fragile beneath the white hospital sheets, his lashes casting faint shadows on his pale skin. My hand hovered above his, before finally resting over it. Warm. Alive. That was all I needed right now.And just then, a knock sounded on the door before it was pushed open. My heap snapped to the door and Detroit strode in, wearing a white suit shirt and black trousers.“Detroit!” I cried and stumbled toward him, my voice cracking under the weight of everything I had been holding in.He caught me before I could fall, his arms strong and steady around me. I bu

  • Betrayed By Husband And Son: Rise Of A Billionaire Wife    A Story

Adele~Time went by too slowly.I paced, then sat, then rose again, until both my legs and butt ached. The sterile bench in the hallway had imprinted itself into my skin, but I couldn’t stay still. Not when every second felt like a coin flip between life and death.I lost track of time waiting for the emergency doors to open. The long strip of red light above them glowed like a warning, taunting me, holding me hostage.I clasped my hands together, then unclasped them, nails digging into my palms until crescents of pain bloomed. Anything to distract me from the crushing thoughts.Detroit. How did I know I was in need of blood? The resort — Mark and others would have tried to reach me by now, probably to nag me over my absence at work again. How was the Open Week Festival coming around? Did the guests arrive yet? My throat tightened, and I pressed my forehead against the cool wall, forcing myself to breathe. One. Two. Three. In. Out.Just then, the door opened and a nurse rushed out

  • Betrayed By Husband And Son: Rise Of A Billionaire Wife    Another Option

Adele~I clenched my fists at my sides, nails digging into my palms. My son’s life was hanging in the balance, and yet, all I could feel was the bitter taste of betrayal rising in my throat. If she hadn’t poisoned him against me… if she hadn’t meddled in our lives… he wouldn’t be here fighting for his life. And now, here she stood. My nemesis. The woman who orchestrated so much of my pain. The woman I should despise with every fiber of my being.Yet—without her, Ethan might not live. That was the cruel irony.I looked at her, my lips pressed into a thin line, daring her to gloat, to smirk, to even breathe wrong. But her face was as pained as mine. She was even shedding tears. How dare she act like she loves my son as much as I did? Who gave her the right to be so broken and aggrieved? My heart twisted.I hated her. I hated that I needed her.And worst of all, I hated that she knew it.However, just as she was going to leave with the doctor for the testing, hurried footsteps reverbe

Detroit~The voice that came through sliced the words from his mouth.“Where is she?”The taxi driver blinked, his breath catching in his throat. The tone wasn’t loud, but it pressed against his chest like an iron weight. He swallowed hard, glancing instinctively around him as though someone had pressed a gun to the back of his head.“S-sir? Are you… related to Adele Ford? She—”“Where is my wife?” “W–wife?” He blinked. Has Madam Adele remarried? But it wasn't made public. Could he have uncovered a secret? The driver blinked when he remembered he was still on call. “Ah, Mister, her son got into an accident. She was in a hurry and forgot her purse. I didn't know but now that I do, I'll send it to her resort. I don't know which hospital sh— beep. Beep. Beep.”The taxi driver was stunned at how abruptly the line went dead. He stared at his phone for a few seconds, then shook his head, muttering under his breath, “Weird people these days…” Still, his palms were clammy. That man’s voice

  • Betrayed By Husband And Son: Rise Of A Billionaire Wife    The World Tilted

Detroit~ That name tasted like ash in her mouth. She pressed forward quickly, afraid his silence would harden into dismissal. “I won’t say anything about her. I won’t interfere. If you want her, have her. Bring her into our marriage as your concubine, your mistress. I won’t object.” Her voice wavered. “I’ll even accept her with grace. I just… I just need my place as your wife.” Her words hung in the air, absurd even to her own ears. A Harrington heiress, offering to share her man. A humiliation unthinkable in their world. Yet here she was, bleeding her pride out at his feet. Finally, Detroit put his phone down, his eyes narrowing into splits as he regarded her. “Concubine?” She took a moment before nodding her head faintly. “She is my wife. Legal. Recognized.” His tone cut with an edge of finality that pierced through her chest. “And if there is a question of concubines…” his gaze sharpened, cold and merciless, “…it isn’t for you to decide. It is for her.” The words slammed in
