The Man Who Came For Me

Adrian sent me the meeting details shortly after our call, but I had no intention of letting him decide when or where I would see him. I told him I would meet him at the hotel that afternoon, where I could leave whenever I wanted.

By the time I finished getting dressed, I had already received three more messages from him. I ignored them all, slipped my phone into my purse, and headed downstairs.

I had barely reached the lobby when I noticed him standing near the entrance.

Adrian looked as though he had spent the morning preparing for an important business meeting rather than trying to convince his wife to return to him. His suit was immaculate, his hair neatly arranged, and his expression carefully controlled. Anyone who passed him would have seen a successful Alpha who had everything under control.

I knew better now.

The moment his eyes found me, he straightened and walked toward me.

“Finally. I’ve been waiting.”

“You said three o’clock. It’s three o’clock.”

His jaw tightened slightly, but he gestured toward a seating area near the windows.

“Can we talk?”

I followed him, keeping enough distance between us that he couldn’t mistake my willingness to listen for a willingness to reconcile. Once we sat down, he leaned forward and lowered his voice.

“The family meeting tomorrow is important. I need you to attend.”

“Why?”

“It’s a discussion involving the family and the pack.”

“That tells me nothing, Adrian.”

He glanced around the lobby before looking back at me.

“There are things happening within Silvercrest that you don’t understand. Your absence will raise questions, and I don’t need people speculating about our marriage.”

I stared at him in disbelief.

“Our marriage?”

“Yes, Sera. Whatever happened between us is private. We don’t need the entire pack knowing about it.”

I almost laughed. He had spent months deceiving me, and now his greatest concern was what other people might think if I refused to stand beside him.

“You should have considered that before you started sleeping with Celeste.”

His expression hardened.

“Must you bring her into every conversation?”

“You’re the one who keeps asking me to pretend nothing happened.”

He looked away, rubbing his jaw as though I were deliberately making his life difficult. For a moment, I remembered the man I had married, the man who used to make me feel as though I was the most important person in his world. I wondered how long it had been since that man disappeared, and whether he had ever truly existed.

“Come home, Sera,” he said again. “We can work through this.”

“No.”

His eyes narrowed.

“You can’t keep running away from me.”

“I’m not running away from you. I’m leaving you.”

Before he could respond, the entrance doors opened behind us.

I didn’t pay attention at first. I was too busy watching Adrian struggle to contain his anger, but then the atmosphere in the lobby changed. Conversations quieted, and several people turned toward the entrance.

My wolf lifted her head.

I knew that feeling now, that subtle shift in my senses whenever someone with a powerful Alpha presence came near. But this time, the reaction was stronger than I expected. Warmth spread through my chest, and my attention moved instinctively toward the doors.

Kael stood just inside the entrance.

He wore a dark suit, and his expression was as controlled as it had been the night we met. A man beside him was speaking quietly, but Kael’s attention had already settled on me.

The moment our eyes met, my wolf stirred with unmistakable recognition.

I had spent the morning trying not to think about him. I had reminded myself repeatedly that one night didn’t mean I understood him or knew what kind of future, if any, could exist between us.

None of those thoughts mattered now.

He was here, and every instinct inside me seemed aware of him.

Kael said something brief to the man beside him before walking toward us. His gaze moved over my face, then dropped to Adrian, who had risen from his seat.

I noticed the change in my husband’s expression immediately.

The irritation disappeared, replaced by something I had rarely seen on his face.

Shock.

“Kael?”

Kael stopped beside our table.

“Adrian.”

The single word carried no warmth, and the tension between them was so immediate that I looked from one man to the other, trying to understand what I had just witnessed.

They knew each other.

Not casually, judging by the way Adrian had gone rigid and the coldness that had settled across Kael’s face.

Adrian looked at him again, as though he couldn’t believe the man standing before him was real.

“What are you doing here?”

Kael ignored the question and turned to me.

“Are you all right?”

The concern in his voice caught me off guard. He didn’t touch me or assume I needed him to speak on my behalf. He simply waited for my answer, leaving me room to decide whether I wanted his help.

“I’m fine,” I said, although I wasn’t entirely sure that was true.

His gaze lingered on my face for a moment before returning to Adrian.

“Why is she here with you?”

Adrian’s expression tightened.

“That’s between my wife and me.”

The word wife made something cold settle in my stomach.

Kael went completely still.

I saw his eyes move to my left hand, where my wedding ring was missing, before returning to Adrian’s face.

“Your wife?” he repeated.

Adrian looked between us.

For a moment, neither man spoke. Then something changed in Adrian’s expression, a realization that seemed to arrive all at once.

He looked at Kael, then at me, and finally back at his older brother.

“No,” he said quietly.

My stomach dropped.

Older brother.

The words echoed in my mind as I stared at the two men. I knew Adrian had an older half-brother, a powerful Alpha he rarely spoke about. Their relationship had always been distant, and whenever I asked questions, Adrian dismissed the subject or changed the conversation.

I had never met that brother.

I had never seen a photograph of him.

And until that moment, I had never known his name.

“Kael Draven,” Adrian said, his voice growing sharper. “What the hell is going on?”

I looked at Kael, searching his face for an explanation, but he was watching Adrian with an expression that made my wolf uneasy.

Then he stepped closer to me.

Not enough to trap me or prevent me from leaving, but enough that his presence settled between Adrian and me.

“That’s not a question you get to ask me,” Kael replied.

Adrian gave a disbelieving laugh.

“She’s my wife.”

“And yet you left her alone to deal with your betrayal.”

My breath caught.

Kael knew.

He didn’t know every detail, but he understood enough to recognize what Adrian had done to me. The memory of our conversation that morning returned, along with his quiet warning not to let my husband’s actions decide who I became.

I hadn’t expected to hear those words from him again so soon.

Adrian’s face darkened.

“You have no idea what happened between us.”

“Then explain why she’s sitting in a hotel discussing your family obligations instead of being at home.”

“That’s none of your business.”

“It became my business when you started treating her like someone you could summon whenever it suited you.”

I watched Adrian’s hands curl into fists. He had always been accustomed to controlling a conversation through his confidence and authority, but Kael didn’t seem remotely impressed by either.

I rose from my chair.

“Both of you, stop.”

They looked at me.

I was tired of men speaking about my life as though I were not standing right in front of them. Adrian had spent years making decisions that affected me without asking what I wanted, and I wasn’t going to allow Kael to replace him simply because my wolf recognized him as my mate.

“I can speak for myself,” I said, looking directly at Kael. “I don’t need you to fight my battles.”

His expression softened slightly.

“I know.”

Then he stepped back, giving me space.

That small gesture reminded me of the difference between him and Adrian. Kael had intervened without demanding that I surrender control of the situation to him.

I turned toward my husband.

“I’m not coming home, Adrian. Whatever you need to discuss with me about the pack, you can do it without pretending our marriage is still intact.”

Adrian barely seemed to hear me. His attention remained fixed on Kael, and the hostility between them had become impossible to ignore.

Kael moved beside me again, his voice low enough that I felt the words more than heard them.

“Stay away from her, Adrian.”

My wolf responded to the warning in his tone, but I kept my eyes on the two brothers, trying to understand how one meeting had turned my already complicated life into something I could barely comprehend.

The man I had spent the night with was Adrian’s older half-brother.

And judging by the hatred in their eyes, I had walked straight into a conflict that had begun long before either of them knew I existed.

Kael held Adrian’s gaze without flinching.

“She’s my mate.”

My heart stopped.

Adrian stared at him.

And for the first time since I had discovered my husband’s betrayal, I realized that the truth I had uncovered was only the beginning of everything that was about to change.

Kael didn’t answer immediately. He sat across from me, his expression thoughtful, as though he understood that my question wasn’t something he could dismiss with a charming smile or a promise to make me happy. I needed to know what he expected from this arrangement before I could even consider accepting it.“I want you to be my wife,” he finally said. “I want you and the baby to be safe, and I want the opportunity to be part of your lives. I also want to see where things between us could lead without forcing either of us into a relationship we’re not ready for.”I studied him carefully.“And the mate bond?”“It doesn’t change what I’ve told you. My wolf recognizes you as my mate, and I won’t pretend that feeling isn’t important to me. But I won’t demand that you love me because of it.”“Good, because I can’t promise you that.”“I’m not asking you to.”His answer was reassuring, but I had learned that good i

For several seconds, I thought I had misunderstood him.Marry him?I stared at Kael, waiting for a hint of amusement to appear on his face, but he remained completely serious. He stood beside the table with his hands resting at his sides, looking at me as though he had just offered a reasonable solution to an ordinary problem.I slowly put down my cup.“You cannot be serious.”“I am.”“Kael, I told you less than an hour ago that I wouldn’t marry you simply because I’m pregnant.”“I remember.”“And now you’re asking me to marry you?”“I’m proposing a possible arrangement, Sera. I’m not asking you to agree this second.”I let out a short, disbelieving laugh and pushed my chair back. The sound wasn’t particularly pleasant, but I couldn’t help it. Seven years of marriage had ended in betrayal, and I had barely begun to understand what my life would look like without Adrian. Now his older half-

I spent the next hour trying to convince myself that telling Kael had been the right decision. He hadn’t shouted or demanded that I move into his home. He hadn’t questioned my honesty or accused me of trying to trap him. Instead, he had listened while I explained how frightened I was, then promised that the baby wouldn’t take away my right to choose my future.I wanted to believe him.But I had believed Adrian’s promises once, too, and I knew better than to build my life around words alone. When Kael arrived at the hotel that afternoon, I was sitting near the window with my untouched lunch beside me. I had considered meeting him somewhere public, but the thought of strangers overhearing such a personal conversation made me uncomfortable. My hotel room offered privacy, and I could ask him to leave whenever I wanted. He knocked before entering, carrying none of the confidence that usually made him seem as though every room belonged to

  • Betrayed By My Husband, Mated To His Brother   The Secret Inside Me

I barely slept that night. The thought that my period was late kept returning no matter how many times I tried to distract myself. I told myself it could be stress. Discovering Adrian’s affair, leaving my home, and finding out that the stranger I had spent the night with was my husband’s powerful older half-brother had been more than enough to throw my life into chaos. Stress could affect my cycle. I knew that much. But I also knew exactly what had happened between Kael and me. I remembered the night with uncomfortable clarity: the way he had looked at me across the hotel bar, the strange pull I had felt when he touched my wrist, and the decision I had made to return to his room. Whatever complications had followed, I hadn’t been forced into that choice. I had wanted him, and I had chosen to stay. Now, the possibility that I might be pregnant made that memory feel different. I wasn’t ashamed of what had happened. I refused to punish myself for making a choice after seven years

  • Betrayed By My Husband, Mated To His Brother   The Child Is Mine Too

I barely slept that night. Every time I closed my eyes, I remembered the look on Adrian’s face when Kael had called me his mate. The shock had been unmistakable, but so had the anger that followed it. I knew my husband well enough to recognize when his pride had been wounded, and I had a terrible feeling that he wasn’t going to let the situation go easily. What troubled me more was the way Kael had looked at me afterward. He had been calm, even considerate, but I could sense how much effort it took him to keep his Alpha instincts under control. The mate bond connected us in a way neither of us fully understood, and although I had chosen to spend the night with him, I wasn’t ready to let that connection determine the rest of my life. I had already spent seven years making decisions around another person’s needs. I wasn’t going to exchange one set of expectations for another simply because my wolf had recognized a mate. My phone vibrated on the bedside table, interrupting my though

For several seconds, I couldn’t bring myself to speak. Kael’s declaration still echoed in my mind, and Adrian’s expression made it impossible to pretend I had misunderstood what was happening. The man I had met at the hotel, the man whose touch had awakened something deep inside me, was my husband’s older half-brother. And he had just called me his mate. I looked at Kael, searching his face for some sign that he regretted saying it in front of Adrian. His expression remained controlled, but I could see the tension in his jaw and the way his eyes stayed fixed on his brother. Adrian, meanwhile, looked as though someone had struck him. “Your mate?” he repeated. Kael didn’t look away. “You heard me.” Adrian let out a disbelieving laugh, but there was nothing amusing about it. His gaze shifted toward me, and I recognized the anger building behind his eyes. “How long has this been going on?” I stared at him. “What?” “You and Kael. How long?” The accusation was so outrageous that
