LOGINLyra’s POV
“Don't listen to her, Randall. She's a bloody liar,” I protested, finally taking my hand off my stung cheek as Susan hurried over to Randall. “It was she who hit me. I didn't…” I paused as I saw that he wasn't even paying attention to me. He was too busy hugging the liar before him to even hear a word I said. When they finally broke from the hug, Susan faced me, her left hand on her waist as she pointed her right index finger at me. “This is exactly why I told you that this woman needs to be put away,” she said. “She's just as deceitful and heartless as her father. You should have seen how hard she hit me.” I gasped, shocked at how smoothly she told her lie. Randall kept a straight face, so it was hard to tell if he believed her or not, but I had a feeling he did. “You need to put her away, Randall,” she urged him, placing her hand on his broad arm. “She needs to be dealt with. You're not going to let her get away with laying her filthy hand on me, would you?” Randall's response was silence. The room remained cold for nearly a minute as he gazed straight at my window, seemingly disinterested in whatever Susan and I had going on. Then suddenly, he heaved deeply and faced me. As soon as our eyes locked, I inhaled deeply. My heart raced a thousand times as I wondered what he was going to do. ‘No way he believed me, right?’ I wondered. “Look, I did nothing wrong. I swear. She came here looking for trouble and when I wouldn't give it to her, she decided to hit me,” I explained. “I…” “That's enough.” And just like that, I froze, unable to utter any more words. He narrowed his eyes at me, his voice sharp. “You have no right to lay a finger on Susan here. Try this again and I'll make you pay dearly for it. Is that clear?” Yeah. Sure. He believed her. I nodded. “Is that it?” Susan queried, her voice cracking with disappointment. “You're just going to let it slide with a warning we both know she's not going to heed?” “Susan…” “No.” She shook her head, shooting me an angry stare before turning back to Randall. “She has to pay for it. You have to punish her.” “What we need to do is to head over to the throne room for a crucial meeting,” Randall said, his voice much cooler than I had expected. “And we must leave at once.” Susan's brows contracted as rage brimmed within her but there was very little she could do when Randall had already spoken. “This is not the end!” She spat, pointing at me once again. “You will regret this.” After they left, I sat back on my bed and let out a deep sigh. I felt a lone tear roll down my cheek and quickly wiped it away only for more to follow. Despite knowing that Randall hated me, I had hoped that for once, he was going to take my side. I mean, it was obvious that I wasn't the aggressor. How could he not see that? Wiping the tears off my cheeks once again, I consoled myself a little with the fact that he didn't punish me despite Susan's desperate pleas. Still, I was hurt that my mate would believe that woman over me, even if he had rejected me. Suddenly, a thought flashed in my mind and my eyes popped open. I got off the bed, changed into a short brown gown and headed to the throne room as quickly as I could. Halfway through the passageway, I met the guard often stationed by my door, making his way back to my room. “And where do you think you're going to?” He asked, scrunching his face. “The chief maid said you won't be working today.” I paused for a moment, wondering what to say to him. I couldn't let him send me back to my room, not when I was this close to getting what I needed. “Uhm… Susan. She– she asked me to meet her at the throne room,” I stuttered. “I can head back to my room if you want. I'm only just looking for an excuse to do that,” I added, now wearing a confident smile. After thinking for a few seconds, he finally moved out of my way. “Don't be long or I'll come drag you back to your room myself,” he warned. “Wouldn't that just be so nice?” I chuckled, before strutting past him. ‘Damn! That was close.’ A couple of minutes later, I was standing just before the door to the throne room. I exhaled deeply. Eavesdropping on the conversation of an Alpha was a very risky thing to do. One mistake could cost one a life. Not mine, though. Randall wouldn't kill me since he still needed me, but he was surely going to send me back to that dungeon, and I didn't want that. Peeking through the peephole, I spotted Randall discussing with a group of strange men and wondered what they were talking about. I didn't have to wonder for long. I let my curiosity get the best of me as I placed my ears close to the door. The voices weren't audible but I was able to make out a few words. “Alpha Max of the White Moon Pack…” I strained my ears for more information, but their voices were quite low, so I couldn't quite hear them as clearly as I wanted to. But one thing was certain– Those men were up to no good. “And what do you think you're doing?” A soft voice called out from behind me just as I tried to lean closer to the door with my ears and I froze. That voice… It sounded familiar but I couldn't quite place my hands on it. Slowly, I turned around and to my surprise, it was none other than the maid whom I had threatened to kill the first time I tried to escape. Yes, the very maid whom I held a knife to her throat. “Damn it!’ I thought. For sure, she was going to expose me. I just stood there like a statue, my eyes locked with hers, waiting for her to call the guards on me. But when she wouldn't speak, rather choosing to arch her brow as if she expected a response, I decided to give her one. “I… I–” I stuttered. It was the best thing I could offer. What else could I have said? That I was there to spy on her Alpha who wanted me locked up? Hell nah! “That's a private meeting going on there,” she said, her voice very flat, almost detached. “You could be severely punished for eavesdropping so I'd advise you to return to your room at once.” My eyes widened in shock as she turned to leave so I called out to her. “Wait…” She paused and turned to face me. “Why? Why are you helping me?” She stood in silence for a few seconds before sighing. “Maybe I should just tell the Alpha then…”Lyra’s POVThe world around me went cold and came to a full stop as I arrived at my father's private study. My heart stopped, my eyes growing wider with each passing second as I beheld my greatest fear staring me in the face. I shook my head vehemently, tears rolling down my cheeks as I watched my father lying lifeless on the ground in a puddle of his own blood. Not far from him was the severed head of an unknown man resting near the door. He looked burly and had goodly apparel, like a man I was supposed to know but didn't. “Father…” I croaked, approaching my father with trembling steps. I crouched low, my knees hitting the blood-slicked floor, beside my last-surviving parent now lifeless. I reached out and touched his cold face.“Father,” I muttered again, tears dripping from my eyes onto the floor, some of it landed on his face as I shook my head, wondering what would have happened if I chose to come to his side. “It's my fault. It's all my fault,” I lamented, my heart burning
Lyra’s POV“Lyra…”“You said it yourself. There's no time to waste. I must get back to the White Moon pack before things get out of hand, if it hasn't already. I need to see my father.”Elayne moved out of the way and I turned to leave, but Winston’s hand shot out and caught my shoulder, forcing me to turn and face him. His face was pale, his brows wrinkled as he gripped my shoulder tighter. “Please, stay. You don't have to leave right now. The border is dangerous at this moment and I can't risk losing you now.”Even with all that was said, all he could think about was himself. If I weren't in such a hurry to leave, I'd have spat on his face that instant. “Don't touch me!” I slapped his hand away. “And don't you even dare try to follow me.”“But my men…”“I don't need them either,” I spat, my eyes devoid of any warmth. “This is personal. It's my blood. My pack. I will handle it myself and come back here in one piece.”Hearing that I'd return made his pupils grow a bit wide with ex
Randall’s POV As soon as the words left Alpha Max's lips, a White Moon pack guard burst through the door, panting. His eyes were wide, and his face was entirely white; his hands trembled by his sides. “Alpha, we're being attacked!” He announced. Max stood abruptly, his eyes snapping towards me with a sharp glare. “Randall!” He growled. “I should have known better than to trust a man like you!” He snarled, drawing his sword. Three guards moved closer to him, their hands on the hilt of their swords, ready to strike if called upon. My mind raced quickly but I stood still, my hands open in a gesture of sudden, genuine confusion. Attacked? Why would they be attacked when we merely came there for peace talks? “I didn't give any such orders,” I finally managed to voice. “My men would not…” My voice was drowned out by the rising clanking sounds of clashing steel and the screams of warriors echoing from the Hall. “Once I'm done slaughtering your men,” Max snarled, his claw
Lyra’s POV“What the –”When my eyes fluttered open, my vision was very hazy but one thing was clear. I was no longer in the dungeon. The soft, fluffy feeling behind me was all the proof I needed. As my vision slowly cleared up, it began to dawn on me that I was back in my room. I let out a low grunt and slowly tried to sit up only to feel a warm weight on my hand, preventing me from doing that. When I looked to the side, I found Winston slumped in a chair, fast asleep like a log of wood, his fingers entwined with mine even in his sleep. I scrunched my face and wrenched my hand away from his stupid fingers. His mere presence disgusted me. He had his hands on mine the whole time?Ewww! The sudden movement managed to jerk him awake, his eyes bloodshot and full of guilt as he turned to me. “Lyra…” he drawled. “Thank the Goddess you're awake.”I pulled back, my expression indifferent as he reached out again with his hand. The nerve in him to think I'd let him touch me after everything
Lyra’s POVAs my eyes fluttered open, I had a strong feeling that the next day had arrived but there was no way to prove it since the sun and its blinding rays had been hidden away from my eyes. I sighed, slowly sitting up, wondering what would become of me since I had rejected Winston once more. He had asked the guards to chain my hands once again so I wondered what else he had in store for me After the threats he threw at me the last time, I had expected a quicker response. Some guards. A few whips on my back and all over my body. But I was met with none of that. Only silence, the deafening type – the type that could make the strongest of men nearly lose their minds. But I had already lost mine so it didn't do so much to me. If anything, I hoped for some quiet today since he had seemingly banned Elayne and the witches from coming to me.The dangling of the keys to the cell snapped me back to reality. I knew that sound. I knew that scent. I knew exactly who it was that was about t
Randall’s POVFollowing the Beta and four guards into the throne room, I was on high alert. Every nerve ending in my body stood, my eyes scanning the entire area for any sign of trouble. My right hand hovered near the hilt of my concealed blade. People who went to uncharted territory without protection often turned out dead, especially when the territory belonged to an enemy. I knew that so well and wasn't about to take any chances with my life. I steadied myself as much as I could but I remained deeply unsettled. My scouts scoured the entire realm trying to find him for months but they couldn't. And now, he suddenly just reappeared at the heart of his pack, one of the first places they looked, as if he never left in the first place. “Long time, no see, Alpha Randall,” Max grinned, calmly sipping his tea as he sat on his throne. Even after all these years, his voice remained the same, crooked and hoarse. I remained a statue as I stood near the sofa at his right-hand side, refusing
Lyra’s POV“That won't be necessary,” Randall said, his brows furrowed in confusion. “Take her back to her room. We have several other maids who can do the job.”I scoffed, my anger bubbling to the surface now as he pretended to care. Deep down, I knew what he meant. He was simply trying to hint th
Randall’s POV“Our men have been at the White Moon pack for five days now but there's still no sign of Alpha Max,” Juan said, as we sat in my study, hoping to figure out a way to get to that man. Ever since the war with the White Moon pack, there had been no sign of Max anywhere close to his pack.
Lyra’s POV“Are you sure about this? Especially at this moment,” Fiona asked, placing the medicine at the head of the bed to fully focus on me. I nodded frantically, nearly forcing my head off my neck. “I'm sure. I should have done this a long time ago but now, I have no choice but to leave this p

I had sought Fiona's help, making her give me some sleeping drugs and yet, sleep remained out of my reach. Each time I shut my eyes to sleep, it was her who I saw, staring at me in the face, causing my hear
